This is very similar to those purple lights you see, and there are dozens of outlet timers available on amazon as well for ~12$. If you decide to go with a CFL, just make sure it is a “daylight” bulb (close to normal sun spectrum) and as long as the wattage isn’t too high, you can fit it into any fixture you like; the more you can focus the light onto the plant, the better (so, cone-shaped/reflector shade rather than lamp shade). But placing the bulb a distance (say, 5 foot) away is a waste of light and money. Have fun and happy planting!
Back in January whenever I only had an Aloe Vera, I bought this little light from Amazon and it’s held up really well. I’ve got these moonstones and 6 others under it! I’m definitely going to have to upgrade for winter.
I ordered this one. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01CE7CTGY/ref=pe_3034960_233709270_TE_item
I don't have the room for huge growing lights... or a green house. Come the summer, when I place the tree out should I use this in combination with natural light?
The big one is about the size of a quarter (~2.5cm) in diameter, and the smaller guys are about the size of a dime (~2cm).
If they're already etiolated, I was thinking I should get this desk grow light to keep them happy. I am assuming the ones on the right are growing slower since they're right next to each other, but not sure if they're too young to separate :) Feedback would be amazing!
Thanks for the reply. Do you think that a one or two little grow lights would help? Was thinking something like this. I grew these little guys from seeds from a store bought lemon about 2-2.5 years ago, and this is the first time they've looked to have been in distress.
I’m in a college dorm so I just use a gooseneck desk lamp from amazon. I wish I could have a more permanent setup but that doesn’t seem possible until I go home.
If you don't mind the lights being a really intense purple, and you're fine with not-too-pricey lights, I've had a Perle and a Pulidonis sitting underneath this light and this light for roughly a year. They're thriving: vibrant stress coloration and no etiolation.
I found some relatively cheap ones online, which (since I'm a broke college student) thankfully didn't break my bank- this one and this one. I mean, I'm not you, nor do I know what counts as expensive, but I figured I would share the ones I use in case they'd fit your situation =)
They're very, very bright purple, I should add. They don't bother me, but I'm in class or out of the room for most of the day anyways, so I can't really judge it very well. Hopefully, once I graduate and get my own place, I can set up a shelf with some of those long bar lights, so my room won't be as garishly purple.
Yeah, in my opinion you don't need one right now- the rosette is pretty compact, the colors are bright, and of course the tiny baby!
I got this one
Would a little grow light help? I was looking at something like this
