For some reason it won’t let me reply to your comment - probably my phone app being dumb! But this is the grow light I use: LED Grow Light for Indoor Plants - Relassy 75W Sunlike Full Spectrum Indoor Grow Light Plants - 3/6/12H Auto On/Off Timer COB Grow Lamp - 4 Dimmable Indoor Plants Light - 22.5 Inch Longer Gooseneck https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JCLX39G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_M8Q24T83W9919W4115YE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'm currently using this. It's really only good enough for two plants so I'll be upgrading before the fall comes around. But I use this light on the highest setting on the 12 hour timer
LEDs will work well. Amazon has plenty of grow lights I'll leave a link for a light that I use for one of my terrariums. I like it because it has a built-in time and can do different intensities

I have two of these for my monsteras, they're not the strongest in the world (i.e. I don't think I could burn my monsteras with them, but probably a fern?) but they're definitely keeping my plants happy, they aren't purple at all which was a big plus for me, and they've got a nice easy to blend in aesthetic. They also have an automatic on/off everyday so I never have to remember to turn them on which is great! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JCLX39G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Winter just hit and I brought it indoors. I got a light off of Amazon hoping to help it during these cold, dark indoor times.
The two other than the spider plant are Swedish Ivy and Old Fashioned Swedish Ivy (I think). They are much lighter in color compared to photos online so I am pretty worried they aren't doing well. The Wandering Jew is more brown than green so I am even more worried that there is something more that I need to be doing.
Hello all. This is my first Bonsai and I'm hoping to get off on the right foot. I will start by detailing my plan:
I was looking for an indoor Bonsai. I would like something artistic and hobby based on my desk at work, so that was the impetus of my entry into the hobby. With that in mind, my research led me to this Oriental Ficus I found at a local nursery. I have read that ficus are great for beginners and do well (as can be expected) indoors. One theme in my research I have encountered is that, like any good hobby, there are tons of differing opinions on what is "best." I have been watching the Bonsai Mirai beginner's series as my primary source of information, so far.
I would very much like to re-pot into the bonsai pot that I have in the picture. I know its fall, and generally it seems that repotting is done in the spring, but would I be okay preparing and repotting it now? Is the bonsai pot that I have the appropriate size for this plant?
I have read conflicting information on the best soil for ficus. One post said a 50/50 fir bark and lava rock combo is best, but that seems to be a little too "airy" for my sensibilities, so I went with this "standard" bonsai soil pictured. I am planning on using some lava rocks I have as a small layer at the bottom of the pot, as I often see suggested. I could use river pebbles if that's more appropriate.
Is the tray that came with the pot suitable for a humidity tray? Is that its purpose? Do I need specific rocks to use in a humidity tray? Does a ficus even need to be concerned with humidity? (I live in Arizona, so even though this will be indoors, it will still be in a very dry environment)
Are fig/ficus trees considered deciduous bonsai? I know they are evergreen, but they are most definitely not conifers. I suppose they are their own category, but should I generally lean towards the "rules" of deciduous trees when making decisions?
Where should I lean on ground cover? Is there any harm in using rocks or other materials, potentially even other ground cover plants as an artistic flair or will those cause hardships for the tree?
I have purchased the following light to be used, on a timer, for the tree. Should be okay, ya?: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JCLX39G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm sure I have a million other questions, but hopefully you all can give me some confidence and push in the right direction. I'm sure I will learn as I go, but I definitely want to start out on the right foot.

Cheers!
