The grow lights were originally set up for the benefit of Shirley, the most spoiled workplant on earth. She is a GMO designer plant from Papua New Guinea who stubbornly refuses to blossom. You can see Shirley in the background. So when I got the amaryllis bulb from a friend, I sort of snuck the bulb in on the side of the grow lights, and it got only a portion of the red-blue light spectrum. That, however, was enough to get it to grow wildly. One morning the flower bud had grown so high during the night that the tip of the bud was enmeshed in the grow light, and it was pushing the grow light up north of where it normally hangs. After that, I had to keep the main stalk away from directly under the grow light.
I didn't want to post the link because the rules say no advertising, but if it is okay, here it is. It was recommended to me by one of the lighting engineers at work: 75 Watt LED Red-Blue Grow Light
I'm not the person you asked, but I've been using these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVQ96KY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So far EVERYTHING I put under them does fantastic. I have apple seeds that sprouted really fast, I have succulents, I have a few flowers and things that don't like too much cold. Everything is doing super well.
I have a bunch of plants so I have a small shelf unit in my room now with four panels hanging above all the plants. I use a 45W blue and red LED panel. I got them off of amazon! https://www.amazon.com/Roleadro-Panel-Spectrum-Growing-Flowering/dp/B01IVQ96KY
I bought it from Amazon. I recently bought 2 more and an additional aerogarden. I will set the aerogardens next to each other and mount/hang the lights so that each garden will get roughly 1.5 light, if that makes sense. Basically, one light is just not wide enough dimensionally to cover a garden.
This is my 4th year with it and I really love the idea. I like that it keeps me from having to see that horrible purple light, and it reflects the light back in. Plus the heat of the light is contained a bit and helps the seeds germinate faster.
Here's the grow light if anyone's interested: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVQ96KY
I noticed much more growth and sun coloration for a while after getting the light, but now for the last month or two, all of that is going away. This is the grow light I bought, I’ve had it for just about a year now.
I have two of these mounted side by side -- they don't spread a whole bunch, and are maybe 12" above my plants: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVQ96KY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't think they'd grow much more than a phal, though I do have a suburst under them right now that's doing okay, and as you can see in the picture a rogue aloe :-) I really want to build a shelf that is 3 or 4 tiers with each having its own light to keep at home, but I haven't gotten that far. They get just a little warm, but not hot. Just be considerate of that depending where you plan to put them.
I see, can you recommend me the bare minimum of all the things I need to do and buy to grow just 1 plant in my balcony as a test experiment. The only thing I know so far is making sure to get the water between 5.5 and 7.5 pH but other than that I'm lost. Can I use this light in my balcony for 1 plant https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IVQ96KY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Xu54AbBQSNHZ4 ?? What nutrients do u recommend and how do I do it?
This is the grow light: https://www.amazon.com/Roleadro-Panel-Spectrum-Growing-Flowering/dp/B01IVQ96KY/ref=sr_1_8?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1512481070&sr=1-8&keywords=grow+lights
As for natural light, it doesn't get any due to the dorm I'm currently in. This grow light set up is pretty much the only way they can get the required light without etiolating to shit in the windowsill.
I got 3 of these a month ago. Good so far but someone please tell me if I chose poorly and why.

i don't have that grow light, but i do have some of these
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVQ96KY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
my succs love em, it'll take a while to see how the cacti will feel but i don't foresee any problems
Those led panels are not far off from CFLs/t5s in terms of output I hate to say.
I would put that LED panel about 4" away from the canopy. Maybe even closer. At a foot away, VERY little light will end up hitting your plant. Even the higher powered marshydro/etc 600w led panels can go closer than 12".
To build on my previous answer: Does this only really pertain to the high intensity grow lights? Because the one I was thinking of getting was this one https://www.amazon.com/Roleadro-Panel-Spectrum-Growing-Flowering/dp/B01IVQ96KY Which seems to have an actual output of 25 or so watts. So if I hung this on a shelf, and looked the plants on it, would it direct the harmful frequencies onto my eyes, or would it be absorbed into the chlorophyll mostly?
This is awesome. I'm about to get a pilea peperomioides. I think I'll try and grow it first with window light - and then with any babies I'll try using artificial light. I was thinking of this light - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVQ96KY/. Not sure if it would be overkill...
Snake River Seed Cooperative are all seeds from local farmers, so you know they will do well in this climate. They are here in town so delivery is fast, and Zamzows stocks most varieties.
For starts, I use these grow lights with great results. I like to use the covered seed trays to keep the moisture in during germination. I find the hot peppers like scotch bonnet, ghost, reaper need a good head start around here because our summers aren't long and hot enough. It's always good to get a jump on tomatoes if you want an early harvest.
I’ve been using these lights on my seedlings. They’ve turned out great so far. Just using a rolling coat rack as a mount.

I used an amazon grow light for my grow tank. It's pretty strong light, and the purple kind but my plants seem to like it.

Not the person you asked, but I have a lot of grow lights of various kinds, and this is my favorite for plants that need a big boost. It's got the purple tint, but it looks like they now have a white light option too. I have 2 next to each other and they're powerful enough that it's almost too much light for my weakest low-light plants.
This is my second favorite, if you want a bulb that screws into a regular socket, looks white like a regular light, but still does a really good job fueling the plants. I have it in one of those lamps with adjustable positioning, so I get it nice and close to the plants. It doesn't look especially powerful but two of them get 4 large plants through very dark, long winters.
The larger plant is actually grown in blurple light using a cheap amazon light:

I should probably expand my lighting though lol.
I bought this one for $32. It puts out over 4300 lumens

I have this one and it seems to work okay: https://www.amazon.com/Roleadro-Spectrum-Hydroponic-Greenhouse-Succulents/dp/B01IVQ96KY
Yeah, no worries. It's a little old. I've since made a three-garden system that has 4 grow lights, but you get the idea. Essentially the lights are on a string / pulley type system where I can raise and lower as needed. I actually saved the original lights and put those back when I am starting new seeds; they tend to get closer. Also, I didn't do this and I regret it, but I should have put the shelves on one of those adjustable units; like you get at Home Depot for closets. Good luck!
Here are the light panels I bought.

This has worked nicely for my jade plant. It's not super heavy-duty, but it runs cool, and could easily be mounted under some cabinets.

Imho they will be fine, I've finished plants with similar or colder weather and some overcast days but not constant maybe two and a half days per week, if yours are just cloudy then better. They may take a little longer to mature though. Yeah a 12/12 or similar to your sunset/rise time is ok too, I was just trying to make it clear with the question it wasn't mockery just letting you know haha.
Leds are often advertised with their equivalent wattage of those old bulbs, much like cfls, not what the bulb actually draws. Like this one is actually around 25w, this is about 130w, and this are about 255w. I would get this 600 last one over the other recommended viparspectra, more bang for your buck and less bulky.
