Here are some thoughts
You'll need an amp. I would go with the Lepai 168 $36 - It's a decent little 2.1 amplifier even though the sub gain is very touchy and the xover is pretty useless from what I remember. I will get you up and running.
You'll need a 3.5mm to RCA to hook the laptop into the amplifier
I don't know that a DAC would do anything for you with that gear. I would just save my money. If you hear noise from the audio out on the computer you can consider it but I would just hold off.
What are you going to be connecting them to? A PC? TV?
You definitely need an amplifier/receiver, but what kind of equipment you use will depend on the audio outputs available on the device you'll be connecting them to. These are probably about the cheapest amplifiers that will support two speakers and a subwoofer, and they work well as long as you don't crank the volume up past 70-80%, but you'll need to be able to provide the audio signal through either a 3.5mm TRS (headphone) plug, or red and white RCA plugs. If you want audio from an HDMI source, you'll have to spend more (probably ~$100 minimum) for an AV receiver.
I guess that you could if you wanted to start hacking into the sub/speakers. I mean the sats should just need some wire as would the sub. I guess you could get something like this Leapi 2.1 amplifer and rewire it all. I don't know how it will sound but hey it's worth a shot. I would like to see how it turns out to be honest.
I was in the market for a new computer speaker setup, and rather than go with a pre-built kit like the ProMedia 2.1 I decided to buy piece by piece.
I picked up a pair of the Micca MB42X's and this amp.
My question is... 1)How's the amp I picked and 2) How will it sound without a subwoofer? I plan on buying one but wanted to wait until I have more funds.
Also if anyone can recommend a decent lower priced sub to go with this I would really appreciate it!
So when I got my subwoofer, I bought this off Amazon because I was having a hard time finding a good 2.1 amp: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0070Z87YO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's plenty loud and sounds good. The connections/polarity in the back is kind of fucked up, but I've got it working appropriately. Would anyone recommend I get this DAC as an upgrade?
T-amp is the way to go, as others have said.
This one seems ideal https://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-168HA-40-Watt-Amplifier-Output/dp/B0070Z87YO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1478008165&sr=8-4&keywords=lepai
You connect the two bottom black connectors and the two bottom red ones to create a "68w" mono sub output and it has the crossover control in the front. It's far more powerful than you need but it's small, stealthy, and I don't see how you would beat the price for amp+crossover.
Hi, I need help to power my new headphones (ath m50x's). I have the Lepai LP-168HA amp ( https://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-168HA-40-Watt-Amplifier-Output/dp/B0070Z87YO ) for my speakers and have that connected to another sub woofer amp. I was wondering if there was a cord that would go from the speaker out that the amp has to an female aux cord. If more details are needed. Ask away, can also provide pictures if need be. Thanks!
Cool, so it's nice that you have both types of input. The "line in" jack and the four coax guys can be used independently. Therefore if you liked the small amp form factor you could get something like this, or go scrounge a thrift store for a larger unit.
I haven't used one yet.. (I just finished my first Briefcase boombox project).. but I was looking at this Amp for my next project as my first is lacking a little power.. i have heard good things about the brand, hope this helps
I have never tried it, but this company does make a 2.1 amp. The extra weight that would be added for the sub and much larger battery to power it all might start to push the boundaries of "portable" though
I have a simple cheap setup that i use for VR flight and racing sims. It provides a nice rumble, granted it's not as precise as something like simvibe but it gets the job done.
i have the following hardware:
Amp - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0070Z87YO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
pwr adapter for amp - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TUMDWG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
2x bass shakers - https://www.amazon.com/AuraSound-AST-2B-4-Shaker-Tactile-Transducer/dp/B0002ZPTBI/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=aurasound&qid=1565363135&s=gateway&sr=8-1
3.5mm headphone to RCA audio cable - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D5H8KO2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Then i just use voicemeeter banana to sort out the audio. - https://www.vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/banana.htm
I take the headphone/soundcard audio + VR HMD audio and route it to the voicemeeter virtual VAIO device, and make that the default audio device in windows. Also, I limit the bass frequencies on the output that goes to the amp/shakers using Voicemeeter EQ.
Thanks for the link. Right now I have my PS4P HDMI into the TV and the HDMI ARC to a Vizio 5.1 Soundbar...does that matter? I assume that splitter will still work since I'm only using it between the PS4 and TV.
How are you liking the BK Gamer2? I read reviews of the amp failing pretty quick. How long have you had yours? How often do you use? Are you happy with the results? I could just simplify the process and just get that...otherwise I'll go the separate components route. This amp was mentioned by a few people to use for one shaker setup (or can this one do two also?) >> https://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-168HA-40-Watt-Amplifier-Output/dp/B0070Z87YO/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=bass+shaker+amp&qid=1561764776&s=gateway&sr=8-2
I was going to use something like this. https://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-168HA-40-Watt-Amplifier-Output/dp/B0070Z87YO/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1523319607&sr=8-21&keywords=two+channel+sub+amp
That should work, right?

Honestly I would build a passive sub to go along with those OSs. Also I would go with a cheap amp like https://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-168HA-40-Watt-Amplifier-Output/dp/B0070Z87YO
You can always upgrade later...
Those are pretty cool, but fairly expensive. For seated experiences, a decent bass shaker and amp can be installed into most chairs for around $100.
This is everything I bought for my setup, and it's great for Driveclub, Eve, and Rigs:

It really does add another dimension. I love it for both FSX and Elite Dangerous for just the ambient rumble of the ship/plane. Here's what I have, pretty cheap compared to your chair investment ;)
