It's hardcore sci-fi and it's beautifully written with extraordinary characters. I read all eight novels and all of the novellas in about 10 days. This was one of those series that just hits you and you know it just has to be made into a movie or something.
Well it turns out some other people already had that idea. Amazon turned into a series back in 2015 and they've just started season 5. It's hugely popular and somehow I never heard of it until now. And I would say it's about 90% true to the books from what I've seen so far.
I highly recommend it. Either the books or the series on Amazon.
Here's a link to the first book of the series:

Start with Leviathan Wakes
The series starts as a mix of interplanetary politics, murder mystery, and sci-fi mystery rolled into one. Uses realistic futuristic tech to traverse the solar system, with acceleration of up to 12g. No FTL, no magic, no whizbang super-science. Three way political system between Earth, Mars and the Belt. Series builds up from there. Lots of intrigue and world-building (no pun intended) with a manageable number of main characters.
Highly recommended if you like RR!
The Expanse series. Start w/Leviathan Wakes:

Lots of comparisons were drawn with Firefly, though the novel has fewer characters. The focus, however, is on a tight-knit crew running their own ship.
Not sure how you feel about Sci-Fi, but I recently picked up the first book in The Expanse series and found myself roped into the conflict that's happening. Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey is the start of the series and it's currently got about nine books in it. I haven't been disappointed yet.
The books are FAR better. The show was alright, quite good for SyFy, but it was a watered down version of the amazing source material. If you liked the show even a little bit I highly recommend reading the series.
"Leviathan Wakes" by James S.A. Corey is Sci-Fi and has a detective as a central character. I read this years ago, and I liked how the book switched between the two different main characters on each new chapter. Story-wise, from what I remember, there was a bit of detective work that moved the plot forward as the detective tried to track down a missing girl. This is all set against a solar-system-wide backdrop where political events between different factions are shaping up.
One of my favorite Sci-Fi reads which involves a detective trying to find a mysterious serial killer is "Destroying Angel" by Richard Paul Russo. It's set in a future San Francisco, a bit dystopian. It's grim, pollution everywhere, a bit hedonistic in some cases (people use drugs for pleasure and have body modifications to enhance, among other things, pleasure). I can't quite put my finger on why I like this book so much, but I think it has to do with the world building. It seems almost believable to me.
Another "cyberpunk" detective novel that I enjoyed is "Dome City Blues" by Jeff Edwards. Similar to "Destroying Angel", this is set in a sort of "dystopian-esque" future set in Los Angeles (think "Blade Runner" and "Count Zero" for how the atmosphere feels. Gritty.) and involves a private detective (main character), data-jackers, organ thieves, tech-enhanced gangs, among other futuristic/cyberpunkish tropes.
(EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention that while there are audio editions of these books, I have only read them and can't recommend how good the audio narration is.)
