This is interesting.....
It almost sounds like it's an issue with the Bluetooth radios in your device and headsets. Not being something 'wrong', just connection issues (think putting diesel in a reg gas engine).
That said, I would get a replacement ordered ASAP so you're not outside the 14 days (not sure where you ordered from).
Try the new device and see what happens. If you get the same thing, then it's the radios connecting to each other and I'd either decide if you want a different phone or headset.
Given my experience with this thing, I'd say look at new headphones.
As a sidenote, I have these (https://www.amazon.com/LG-Infinim-HBS-900-Wireless-Headset/dp/B00NW2JBYO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1481415173&sr=8-4&keywords=lg+bluetooth+headset) and they work well - they drop in certain places that have a bunch of stuff going on (WiFi, wireless TVs, etc.)
Budget - Less than or equal to 100
Source - Nexus 6p (bluetooth)
Requirements for Isolation -It'd be nice but not a major need
Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Yes
Preferred Type of Headphone - In ear
Preferred tonal balance - Not an audiophile sorry!
Past headphones - I'm currently using the LG Infinium 900
Preferred Music - I listen to a lot of different genres
Hey guys. I currently have these bluetooth headphones https://www.amazon.com/LG-Infinim-HBS-900-Wireless-Headset/dp/B00NW2JBYO
The left piece is broken and doesn't have sound coming out of it. As a result, I'm looking for a replacement. I've been looking at the Jaybird X3. This bluetooth headphone is very popular from what I can tell. Does anyone have any experience with these headphones? I know bluetooth headphones aren't that big in this subreddit but I had no idea where to ask. Other recommendations are welcome, although I'm looking for earbuds; I don't want headphones.
I have some LG wireless bluetooth headphones that are great. I use them for rides outside even, and the earbuds retract into the device when not in use.
I absolutely love these Bluetooth headphones with the Vive: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Infinim-HBS-900-Wireless-Headset/dp/B00NW2JBYO
They're easy to take off quickly. Easy to change volume too.
If you would like a more fancier model, consider the Harman Kardon model (more pricier obviously) : http://www.amazon.com/LG-Infinim-HBS-900-Wireless-Headset/dp/B00NW2JBYO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1454011273&sr=8-2&keywords=lg+tone
The LG Infinums are on sale at Amazon for like $80, totally worth that price. LG Electronics TONE INFINIM Bluetooth Stereo Headset - Retail Packaging - Silver by LG Electronics http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NW2JBYO/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_48EEvbCHRDTSV

It is a bluetooth headset similar to this.
I've been using Bluetooth earbuds for the last five years (currently, these) with various smartphones and everything has been fine. At this point, I could never go back to wired headphones for listening on the go.
I'm actually pretty excited about this. If Apple really does ditch the headphone jack, maybe more manufacturers will get into the stereo Bluetooth headset game and we might finally see some innovation.
