I would like to report an issue I have with the game.. We all know that Halo feels more.. Halo with a gamepad. For the ones who do not own the official xbox 360 controller, the game just freezes after a while. This is happenning due to vibration beeing actvated. Unfortunately, there is no such option in the settings menu and I would like to request a patc or a way to fix this manually. It happens to me to all my games and disabling the vibration fixes all of the issues. Thanks in advance. I have ths gamepad : http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-ChillStream-Gamepad-for-PC/dp/B000IX1NDC
Okay well I already gave you one example of such a controller (the gamecube controller) but I can give you another one. It's a logitech controller with the 360 layout for PC. There's also the Ouya controller. Early builds of the OnLive controller also had sticks in that position.
The thing is at this point if you're going to make a general USB controller for something (e.g. PC) and you want that particular layout there's no real reason to NOT make it 360 compatible since you get a ton for it (free drivers on Windows, instant compatibility and button mapping on most games that support controllers, etc). Conversely if you're making a game for a specific console (such as PS3) you're going to want to make it as close to the official controller as you can or risk alienating yourself to a very small niche crowd.
It's almost certain that MS doesn't have that stick position patented. I doubt that such a patent would even be legal anyway - you generally can't patent such broad shapes or layouts (otherwise every modern controller would violate the patent of the basic shape of whoever the first person to use the modern 2 handle design).
