You might find some more academic books on these topics from more academic sources like university presses. Everyday life in Scotland 1600-1800 and Love, Intimacy and Power: Marriage and patriarchy in Scotland 1650-1850 might be worth a look. These are usually pricier than stuff that you'll find in waterstones and the like but they seem good in terms of information. I can't really answer in terms of the North East specifically I'm afraid.
