It has a lid so the dogs can't dunk their whole heads in when they drink and it helps keep them from dripping so much since they can only access a small about of water at a time. I have a hound who likes to dunk his whole face and his long ears in his bowl and this is the only thing that's prevented me from having puddles all over my house.

Ya I have to keep all my toilet lids closed since I got mine. Also when I turn the shower off she hops in and starts playing in the water lol.

As far as your bowl goes I use this one. It’s heavy enough she can’t flip it. And because of the style she can’t play in it either really.
