Back when I did magic I really loved this book: https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Misdirection-Fitzkee-Trilogy-Book-ebook/dp/B0051J58KM
The premise was super simple. If you want people to not pay attention to something, draw attention to it yourself. If you want people to pay attention to something, act as if it's trivial.
Similar with props. If you told someone it was magical, they'll think it's normal. If you say something is Normal, they'll think it's gimmicked.
But it's all about subtlety. If I feign passing a coin from one hand to the other, most people will figure it out. What sells the action is what you do with the other hand, what you do with your eyes, AND what you do with your body.
It took months to feel comfortable with a false pass, trying to make my actual passes and fake passes the exact same, using larger body movements like shifting legs or changing angles when needed, and knowing where to look when. And I was STILL terrible at coin magic.
Cups and balls is pretty easy to follow for me, but I could never master the subtleties used. Gazzo is by far my favorite at cups and balls and his subtleties are next level. https://youtu.be/4hlc6oB62WI
