Amazing reply, thanks so much! This should be perfect for my nephew. Is this the Master Lock 3 you're talking about? I love the idea that he can show off his skills on a "real" lock after practicing with the clear ones.
As others have said, the majority of these locks are good for visualizing what is happening inside the lock, but are usually not good for much else. Cheap 4 pin padlocks is where you want to start. Master Lock makes a butt ton of exactly where you want to start.

It’s available at just about every hardware store on the planet for under $10.
The second link is to a abus model 80 (in size 45mm) you want a model 45 (40mm would be a good size).
I’m not sure about the price on the first link, seems excessively expensive to me. Under 9 bucks with prime shipping on amazon: Master Lock 3D Outdoor Padlock with Key, 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004SQKO/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_YM6NNF05A7ZKT14MXPZJ
Hey, welcome to the club! If you're new to lockpicking I'd recommend starting with some easier locks and then eventually working your way up. A masterlock is a great starting lock like the model 3. https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-3D-Laminated-Padlock/dp/B00004SQKO/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=masterlock+3&qid=1588870345&sr=8-1
After you get used to the #3. Either a masterlock 140 or 141 lock is a great next step and then after that I'd recommend an Abus 55/40. I end up buying most of my locks on amazon since they have pretty good prices but sometimes you can find good deals on ebay. Let me know if you have any more questions!
There's probably some difficulty / value calculation to be had. But at a $87 price difference, it likely doesn't have to be solid gold bars. The $9 is probably enough for a backpack / coat / gloves at a school. Whereas the $96 threshold might be crossed for a nice $1k bicycle. And someone with the skill for $96 should be upstanding enough to not steal a $1k bicycle. Although with the internet these days, it would seem a low level thief could put in a little bit of time to learn to pick the $96. There are disk picks available online. Unsure of the exact quality though, compared to the tool in the video.

This is exactly what I would recommend as well. Although if you can grab a cutaway lock over an acrylic, I think they’re a bit better. But you’ll soon be done with both so it’s probably a moot point. Then I’d go MasterLock #3 and then into MasterLock 140, both are pretty available either online or in stores.
MasterLock #3 are $6 on Amazon.
MasterLock 140 are $7 on Amazon.
