Python is one of many decent choices for starting off learning programming.
Starting off in Computer Science, this book is currently the text for the first CS course at the university I graduated from: https://www.amazon.com/Mathematical-Structures-Computer-Science-Gersting/dp/1429215100/
It introduces some ideas that are foundational for later concepts in CS. I actually used an earlier edition of the same book, 15 years ago.
