I've seen videos of it and can say it appears to work fairly well. The other piece of advise I'd give you is to put your phone in airplane mode while it's mounted to the remote...less intereference that way.

Edit: Also important to note that it was a clear day with completely unobstructed line of sight. In my experience even one tree in line of sight can have significant effect on range.

Well, there's 2 things you can do. One is illegal and free and will increase the range greatly, and the other one is legal and costs money and will give a minor increase.

1) Switch your wifi mode from CE to FCC. Broadcasting regulations in europe(and australia, most of the world) are much stricter than in the USA. Just swapping this will give you a drastic range increase because your transmitter power is no longer throttled by the software. first youtuble link I found on how to switch. It's important to always click cancel on the prompt (switch wifi modes) you will now get after every reboot. If you get checked/audited make sure to switch back since you're technically in breach of the law.

2) Buy a range extender for your controller, they will make your omni antennas behave more like directional antennas and give you a range increase aswell. It's important to always keep the antennas facing the drone in this case since you will lose connection when you don't. parabolic range extender
