Try a deshedding rake - it’s made to get tangles and matted fur unsnarled.
I’ve been using this one for a few days now and so far it’s been amazing, better than any other brush I’ve tried.

Deshedding rake! Like this from amazon it works wonders for terriers because it pulls out the wirey hairs
I know everyone recommends a furminator, but I have better results with this. I use the furminator once a week and this tool the other days.
It also helps to just realize you will always be buried in fur.
You need a really great vacuum, good is not good enough here. I checked out r/vacuums for recommendations for vacuums and those people are very helpful.
Next invest in an Evercare Mega Roller. They make one handle that extends so you can even use it on the carpets or in the vehicle. When you get that also get a big load of refills as you will go through the 50 sheets very quickly this time of year. I can go through 4-6 every day just on my king size bed and the dogs fleece blanket.
I was told when I got my boy that you know you have a GSD in the family when you eat, drink, and breath their hair. That was not far wrong. Vacuuming, dusting, and sticky roller every day to every other day in blow season.
Even if you can get outside and do a brush every few days (everyday is way too much for their skin and hair) that will help.
This is the rake I use and it gets so much hair out: https://smile.amazon.com/Maxpower-Planet-Pet-Grooming-Brush/dp/B07P2N8HQH/ref=sr_1_3?crid=J1X3JMT1EFZ2&keywords=dog+coat+rake&qid=1667862186&s=pet-supplies&sprefix=coat+rake%2Cpets%2C144&sr=1-3 You do need to be careful that you don't "dig" into your dog's skin since you don't really need to go that deep with this rake.
Hair everywhere is just part of the mystique of having a GSD in the family. You know we can spot each other even without the dogs present since we will have GSD hair somewhere on our clothes. LOL.
Yes! Amazing for longer haired cats. Both of mine LOVE getting brushed with this. It must feel pretty incredible- they’ll chase me around asking to get brushed and then just melt into a puddle as I brush them. However, the best part is how much fur is removed. After a solid 15 minutes of brushing you’ll have so much fur that you can make a large winter coat with it. 🙃

I use this undercoat rake. Double sided, so it's thorough. My brushing routine is 1. undercoat rake, 2. slicker brush, 3. metal comb through fur to make sure I got all the dead undercoat. Then I spray him with some emu oil to make him all nice and soft.
I just bought this brush because a friend of mine who has two long haired cats said it’s pretty amazing. Is this a good one? This is the one I use. I don’t use silicone brushes because it could irritate the skin or even pull hairs out. So he may just not like how his skin feels afterward. Also, if you want to try the silicone again, just use a very light touch rather than pushing down. It will help grab the lose hairs without pulling anything out.
Ohhhh I would try this instead ? Maxpower Planet Pet Grooming Brush - Double Sided Shedding and Dematting Undercoat Rake Comb for Dogs and Cats,Extra Wide https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2N8HQH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PSTD1SSVA9Y3TK0BV03W?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hiya, Darn. Making me revisit those years. That is hard. I would never ask my wife. The emotions are still too much.
This device is similar to the ones we used. I don't know if it is any good. Maxpower Planet Pet Grooming Brush - Double Sided Shedding and Dematting Undercoat Rake Comb for Dogs and Cats,Extra Wide,Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2N8HQH/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_S6H3HHDJW37ZXEYQWRMS
Later, C
People are mentioning "buy a ferminator"
Dont. They are a waste. These rakes work 10x better and are much cheaper.
I've tried so many things and my dog seems to start shaking no matter what I've tried and how gentle I am
My current tool is one of these which seems to be for matted hair, not for removing the shedding undercoat (dog is a half border collie half pug!)
Anything you suggest that won't freak him out? Any links to the activet one you suggest?

She absolutely hates this brush but it's the only brush that will get through her thick coat. I also use various metal combs and regular brushes, and a slicker brush
That much shedding at 4 months is not normal. She could be growing in her adult coat and loosing the puppy fluff, but if you notice her overall loosing fur, you should go to a vet. She could most likely be having an allergic reaction to something. My wiggle butt didnt fully blow coat untill his full coat came in around 12 months.
That said, for aussies, the best grooming tool is an undercoat rake, like this: Maxpower Planet Pet Grooming Brush - Double Sided Shedding and Dematting Undercoat Rake Comb for Dogs and Cats,Extra Wide https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2N8HQH/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_A0P7HJFSZJQYY31V2ADS
I don't have any clipper recommendations; I haven't needed them. I'd be curious to hear what others say. For my girl, I used a scissors to do a sanitary trim to prevent things from coming with out of the litter box. She seemed to figure things out better by 1.5 years old and I no longer trim her, but also don't have poo bits left. I didn't trim super close but with mats its a different story. How often are you brushing? At 1 year old, they're still developing their coat and you won't see the full coon coat in til 2-4 years from what I've heard. My girl at 2 years has a much thicker coat than she did a year ago, but it is summer here too. This past winter (she was ~1.5 years old) her fur got longer and thicker, and I noticed a ton of shedding in the spring. I found that when she was growing her coat was coming in way more frequently and I did struggle with matting. I was brushing at least every other day and daily when I could. What kind of brushes are you using, besides the furminator? Do you have a comb? A shedding rake like this: will definitely help get extra fur out (similar to a furminator, but don't use them both at the same time or you'll irritate the skin!) and it also will get out the small mats pretty easily. A comb is also essential, and if you use it too it'll really help reduce matting. There are de-tangler sprays too. My girl really wasn't a fan of it so I don't really use it at all but I felt like it helped when I had tried it out.

If that link works, that’s the one we have and it works really well. After we brush our 2 the ground around us looks like a white shag carpet!
I wish more people had open hearts like you. So many people wouldn’t have offered because of her age alone. 😔
This brush https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2N8HQH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_uXtTFbQ56TXFH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 is exceptional at getting shepherd undercoat out. EXCEPTIONAL. Highly, highly recommend. It'll get even twice that amount of fur out.
If you’re looking for a brush, this one works absolute wonders! Best I’ve had thus far.

Best thing i got to brush my GSD!
Those double sided brushes are garbage in my opinion. I'll link a few things I've bought from Amazon to use on my dog at home. Brushes are going to depend on the coat of your dog.
Undercoat rake - this is the exact one I have. Used on both a corgi and a border collie mix
long pin slicker brush (they come in different pin lengths. I like this one, I use an Artero at work though.
I would suggest starting with a DE shedder comb like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Maxpower-Planet-Pet-Grooming-Brush/dp/B07P2N8HQH
That said- I would suggest talking to your vet for suggestions... My girl doesn't shed very much..
The secret here is to get a good grooming brush and use it often, preferably outdoors.
I still can't believe just how much these little fuckers can shed.
You want to get a "rake", not a "brush". Try searching for "cat rake" on Amazon, you'll want something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2N8HQH
Couple times per year. But I couldn't live without a rake (like this https://www.amazon.com/Maxpower-Planet-Pet-Grooming-Brush/dp/B07P2N8HQH/ref=sr_1_2?crid=24XNB4W8W9SSA&keywords=dog+rake&qid=1642611723&sprefix=dog+rake%2Caps%2C92&sr=8-2).

Using a brush, then that, then blowing them out will remove a ton of fur.
I'm not a fan of the furminator for short/medium furred dogs or any cats. It pulls the fur and can cause skin irritation if used too much.
I have a comb: here, a shedding rake like this as well as a regular slicker brush that you push the button to get the fur out. They're all useful. The comb gets tangles, the shedding rake removes excess fur (don't use it too much) and the regular brush smooths out and gets the extra fur. Also good for a quick brushing if no tangles.
Sometimes my girl isn't in the mood for certain tools. If I switch to a different one I can usually get some grooming in.

I have two aussies one with a thin wiry coat and one with the fluffiest ever. I use an under coat rake a few times a month https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P2N8HQH?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details and a regular brush with fine teeth like a slicker brush that is purple on amazon.
They will break every two years but good set up for $20.
I use the maxpower plant found it on Amazon works pretty well on my Corgi Amazon Link
