If you ever get around to buying another adapter, I cannot reccomend the Mayflash brand adapter enough. I own and use one. My friends all have one as well. The cord is extra long. The quality is solid, and its also PC ready for when I wanna bust out some luigi's mansion on dolphin. By the way, i'd be writing some nasty emails to the company and demand reimbursement, as well as taking it back to the store.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B00RSXRLUE If you don’t want to wait until 2019 to play smash with GCC you can get this adapter, which works just as well as the official Nintendo one, and even works for pc. I’ve owned it for almost 2 years now and haven’t had a single issue
I have the Mayflash one and it works excellent. It was too difficult to find an official one back in the Wii U days. I'm assuming it works for Switch too. No issues whatsoever personally and it has nearly 5 stars on Amazon.
Edit:
Figured I should clarify my comments here:
I do not own a Switch yet (plan to get one Black Friday), but I use it all the time on my Wii U and it works flawlessly. Based on reviews, it looks like it works flawlessly on the Switch as well. I can't imagine it would be any different.
This one by Mayflash. Set it to Wii U mode, and it functions identically to the official Nintendo one.
There's only really two good options as far as I know. The official Nintendo adapter or the Mayflash 4 port adapter. I'm pretty sure that Nintendo isn't making their adapter anymore or something, so I'd just get the Mayflash one.
That's objectively wrong, most adapters other than the Nintendo or Mayflash 4 port have issues with either lag of compatibility. Keep an eye out and you'll see threads in the smash & Nintendo subs that get posted almost weekly trying to figure out what's wrong with their adapter, and 99% of the time it's because they have a different 3rd party adapter. Some add a frame or more of lag, some have weird input malfunctions, some aren't compatible with pc or the proper drivers needed for melee, etc.
/u/buarki12, I highly recommend just getting the Mayflash for $30 off amazon. $30 guarantees it'll work no matter what game you want to play and it'll be the best with least hassle. No idea what you experience with Amazon was one time but this has free returns if you're really worried so nothing to lose, just message them and they'll refund you.
I got the mayflash one for my Wii U like two or three years ago on amazon. Never had any issues with it. I just ordered another one for 8 player smash via Amazon last week. It was around 25 or 30 bucks I believe. I’ll edit this comment with the link.
Edit: looks like it’s on sale for around 17 bucks right now. Very solid deal.
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
It probably works but I suggest getting a nintendo official or mayflash 4 port (this amazon listing is 2 port).
Those two adapters are the most proven to work without lag/hassle and are overclockable and get the reduced timing dispersion option to 1000 hz which is worth the $5-$10 difference
It really bugs me to play with a remote. Even the tablet is annoying to play with. If you and your friends are used to Melee, I would buy a GameCube adaptor (this one is only $15 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/) and a couple of controllers.
Raphnet used to be the bees knees before the Wii U Adapter and Native Control support came out. All the ones saying that the Raphnet is better are probably just the older posts. The current best adapter is the Wii U Official USB Adapter. Inputs should be basically identical to console. You can try and get it from Gamestop. If not the mayflash one works fine you can get it from Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ Make sure you set it up using the guide that Smashladder provides, using Wii U mode.
Yeah! They don't have all the buttons the switch controllers have (no ZL, minus, home, screenshot) but otherwise are the same! For simple multiplayer games that don't use all the switch's buttons they're absolutely perfect. And the mayflash adapter is somewhere from 10-20 dollars on Amazon I think
Edit: here's the link Mayflash GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, PC USB and Switch, 4 Port https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YN-yAbGD6FSBD
amazon is where I got mine, this is the third party one I got for my pc 18 months ago. No issues with it at all.
very easy. You just need an adapter, the nintendo switch gamecube adapter is official and works but is more expensive. The one me other folks use is this one.
works p well. its is 3rd party please mind
If you want to use your gamecube controllers this adapter works pretty well. However, it works as DirectInput, so you'll need to run an additional program to get it working with games that only support XInput. Since you mentioned using it for fighting games though, I wouldn't recommend using the GC controller for most of those. The dpad on it is pretty awful, and very few people play fighting games on analog stick (with the exception of stuff that's designed around actual analog input, but that's not most 2D fighting games). If you're not too used to playing them with controller and don't mind learning something new I'd highly recommend just playing on keyboard. It sounds weird to a lot of people for some reason, but it's much closer to an arcade stick than a controller is (and is almost identical to a Hitbox if you know what that is). If you're interested in playing on keyboard and want more info on that I'd be glad to share more.
How much is the cost difference
It should work (at least some people have gotten it to work) but you won't have access to overclocking and if it's $15 difference then the mayflash is worth for the proven track record/overclocking
While it may be slightly over your budget, I would recommend this adapter, https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
Works perfectly with Dolphin and should work with everything else as well. I would recommend the official adapter that Nintendo created for the Wii U but that is even more out of your budget and Amazon currently does not directly carry it.
A quick google search for "gamecube usb adapter" will give you a number of sub $10 options for connecting an og gamecube controller to your PC. Though, I see there is a 4-port model from a company called "Mayflash" on amazon. It's around $15, well reviewed, and switchable from Wii U to PC mode (in case you ever need to use it on the actual console). I have a usb sensor bar/bluetooth adapter from mayflash that I use with dolphin for my wiimotes, and it works like a charm, so I'm pretty comfortable recommending that company specifically. That said, I've never used the gc-to-usb adapter, so do your research. Good luck!
Edit: Forgot the link
wait are they really $55 on amazon?
Mayflashes are good too right? Link
Sorry. I'll try to add some more detail.
It was this adapter, http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-nintendo-u/dp/B00RSXRLUE.
When I first plugged it in the driver installed and I could see the 4 ports in dolphin, but it didn't recognize any controllers actually being plugged in. After I tries installing other drivers and such through other sites and tutorials, dolphin no longer sees any ports.
Buy this adapter. Everyone raves about how good it is. I have one on the way so I'll be able to comment about it later this week.
That's a different adapter than what everyone else is talking about. This is the one they're referring to.
I do own the one you linked though and it works well with no input lag. Works with any game compatible with the classic controller pro as well. With that being said, the other adapter is much more convenient to use when playing smash 4.
All 4 controllers in the list are just the 4 ports on the adapter. Instead of being generic controllers they're being picked up as PS3 controllers. This only started happening somewhat recently.
Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
The Adapter works with Nintendont. You get vibration and everything. The adapter I have has 2 usb plug and the black one you want to plug into the back of the Wii U cuz that’s the only ports the vwii will see and the grey one Is just to power the vibration. I used a short usb extension to plug it into one of the front USB port since I use a flash drive for my games. Can bypass this if games are on a sd card. Here is the adapter. Has 4 ports. Not near mine but forget if you have to turn it on in setting or not. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q1ZZ17603KJJ7AR6VZ9J?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
You can use them on the WiiU with a Mayflash adapter, if you can get one. What doesn't work at all are other peripherals, like the Dance Dance Revolution mat or the DK bongs.
ps3 pads are USB and use directinput, so they are the easiest to set up, but might be a bit pricier due to their slightly higher rarity.
the wii mats use gamecube controller ports, but are super common and the cheapest official soft pads usually. you can get mayflash brand gamecube adapters that have a pc mode so you can plug in the pads: https://www.amazon.ca/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE although some people have issues with these things working properly on windows even, no idea about linux. i used to use a wii mat and the official wii u gamecube adapter with a program that turns it into directinput, but said program doesnt work on linux.
i have no experience with ps2 pads and their usb adapters, but the pads are at least as common as wii pads imo.
xbox 360 pads are usb, but they use xinput, so that might not be of use. they are also quite rare and in my experience the most expensive.
hey glad to hear it worked for you! can you help me out?
I have the same setup as you I believe but it won't work! Currently on MacOS, OutFox 5.3, Mayflash Adapter , Wii Konami DDR Pads
1 footed steps work but It won't register simultaneous LEFT + RIGHT presses and really frustrating. Anything helps ty
Plenty of adapters like this out there. Also, for wireless Bluetooth controllers like DualShock 4, if your pc has blutooth, you can connect to it.
I also suggest checking the USB port by plugging in some other device and seeing if that works correctly. Although, the controller you linked to looks very shady IMO. I've had a lot of issues in the past with cheap Chinese GC controllers. If it's within your budget, a real Gamecube controller along with a Mayflash USB adapter will serve you well.
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
It’s not the same as the original but you should be able to zoom by pushing the left stick or right stick button (can’t remember which). You can physically press the stick like a button, if you didn’t already know.
Also, if you’re playing docked then it may be worth getting a GameCube controller adapter if you already have a GameCube controller. The game supports the original controls that way! The Mayflash adapter is one example.
I might just end up getting this one instead:
Apparently, this works well for Stepmania.
Sadly that will not work as a GameCube controller. The Switch still recognizes it as a regular Switch controller and won’t change the button mappings
The only way to get the GameCube button mapping and analog triggers support is with a controller that actually works on a GameCube along with an adapter such as this one. You’ll need to shop around for a controller that’s for the GameCube
The Mayflash 4 port specifically is your best bet. It's if anything a tiny bit better than the Nintendo adapter, it's cheaper, and the Smash community has been using it since before even Sm4sh so it's kinda the gold standard.
The official Nintendo adapter is perfectly fine, I use one, they're just much more expensive now. Some people use other third party adapters with no problems on Switch, but I wouldn't recommend them. For one, some have poor internals and increase your input lag. Plus lots of people in the Slippi discords and similar have trouble using adapters on their PC that aren't the Mayflash or Nintendo. Those two are the most compatible by far. Maybe you don't plan to use it on your PC now, but it's good to know yours can do it no problem.
It would not because the Switch just recognizes it as a regular Switch controller. The Switch doesn’t know that a GameCube controller is technically plugged into it
So yeah, a wired GameCube adapter is your only option for analog input. It may be pretty difficult to find the official one, but Mayflash is a popular alternative
Yeah but do you know that the Mayflash adapter specifically doesn’t work?
Are you maybe thinking of a different adapter? Mayflash also has this adapter that’s supposed to be an alternative to the official GameCube adapter
Lol, my mistake. I didnt even see that.
Id be wary of all third party devices in general, just going by the amazon reviews they dont always arrive working.
Just get a Mayflash or official adapter on Amazon for like $20. Those will be 100% compatible with Dolphin, so don't cheap out on a different adapter and pay the price like me.
If you are looking for a 3rd party alternative might I recommend the Mayflash adapter? I have been using it for going on 4 years now, and it works great on the Switch/Wii U/PC.
Not sure if amazon link are ok but here ya go
> Amazon shows Nintendo's gamecube controller adapter as $80, wtf??
Nintendo produces about four gamecube adapters a century, so those prices are scalper prices.
> Is there a cheaper reliable alternative?
Yes, the Mayflash adapter is $20, although it has very marginally more input latency.
> Also can I just buy old wireless gamecube controllers?
Yes, Wavebird controllers will work with either adapter.
> Is there lag on them?
Nothing perceivable by humans.
I haven't put Android on my Switch, but I do have Dolphin on my Galaxy Tab S4......which Gamecube adapter do you have? I ordered one on Amazon a while back and it did not do anything, never worked. I ended up returning it and getting the MayFlash adapter which I was told worked much better-- and it did, it works perfect and my Galaxy actually recognizes it. It may work on the Switch, but I'm not sure if the Switch even recognizes any of the adapters.
(Sorry I have no idea how to shorten the URL lmao)
Still seems to be available on Amazon. I placed my order this morning.
Also here is the link to the exact one I own two of Link since I checked Amazon and it looks like there are a bunch of generic ones that show up before this one when you search for it
I only own this one which I used to use back on my WiiU https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ that works perfectly fine using both usb ports on the Switch dock.
Yours is different so I don't know if its common that issue of trying to use both usb ports together, or maybe something has gone wrong with it on yours. If anything you can try using those cheap old usb hubs(and plug it in through that to the dock), they work with the Switch dock without issues.
Forgot to ask does it work without problems on a PC?
How do I set up the Mayflash Gamecube Controller Adapter for Project64?
Here are my computer specs:
Windows 10
AMD Ryzen 2600X
Nvidia GTX 1070
32GB DDR4
400 GB SSD
B450 motherboard
You can post a comment on the subreddit's Daily Discussion Thread, it is one of the two green posts pinned at the top /r/smashbros' front page. A new one is posted every day and they are perfect for asking quick questions.
To help you with the adapter thing, here is a link to the one I've been using. It works perfectly fine on PC, Switch, and Wii U in my experience. Good Luck!
I haven't used the adapter you linked, but this Mayflash adapter is on par with Nintendo's OEM adapter, and arguably better than the OEM adapter considering how easy it is to set up in Dolphin.
It works for both Switch and PC with native support

Mayflash GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, PC USB and Switch, 4 Port https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_YKeeCbF1RT58E
I used this for Smash WiiU and Dolphin emulator on PC and it’s great.
But they won’t restock for another week, but it’s quicker than the official.
Edit: Still using for Ultimate and it’s still great. Sucks that they use 2 USB slots though.
No idea about that one but I have this one from May Flash and it works perfectly. Has good reviews too. https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1546297546&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+controller+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=4144VRjYU...
awesome to know thanks
edit: this is what i might order https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1544721659&sr=8-4&keywords=wii%2Bu%2Bgamecube%2Bcontroller%2Badapter&th=1#customerReviews
If you are okay with not getting the official one, many people including myself use the mayflash one from smash 4 days on the switch/smash ultimate and it works perfectly. On top of that it works on pc too. I have had zero lag or any issues with it. Highly recommend.
Unfortunately they're *very* hard to come by. I have been using this Mayflash Adapter since Sm4sh came out for the Wii-U, and it works fantastically on the switch version as well! I'm not sure if the official one requires it, but this has 2 USBs to connect, one of which isn't required but is used for rumble support.

See if you can buy a Mayflash adaptor. They have a switch on the back that makes them work effectively like a Wii u adaptor.
They normally go for about $20
Well it is true that most 3rd party adapters suck, but specifically the Mayflash 4 Port is really good. It was pretty much the standard like 4 years ago when official adapters were out of stock for months. I mean just look at the amazon reviews. It has almost 2 thousand reviews, at 4.5 stars. Trust me, it's more than legit.
Would anyone know if the Mayflash Gamecube Controller Adapter let you play a four-player game with a pair of Joy Cons, a wired controller, and two GameCube controllers connected the adapter? Say, Mario Kart 8?
Assuming you mean this adapter, it 100% works with multiple controllers on the Switch, just like on Wii U. You just have to set the toggle to Wii U mode, not PC. I just tested it in Mario Kart 8 with 3 different GC controllers and 1 set of Joy-Cons (because I don't have a 4th GameCube controller). Each one worked separately and I was able to control 4 separate karts at the same time.
This adapter works wonders. Cheaper than the "official" one too.
As for controllers, look on /r/gamesale or craigslist, or ebay.
If you're coming from smash like I did you could buy an adapter for your game cube controller
So nintendo's official gamecube adapter for wii U doesn't work on pc. Something like this will though: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=pd_sim_147_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00RSXRLUE&pd_rd_r=H67HFMSJTDDS2FNT44MZ&pd_rd_w=ycOMg&pd_rd_wg=p0vdg&refRID=H67HFMSJTDDS2FNT44MZ&th=1
Ah, that's a shame. I'm pretty sure only the mayflash one works.
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
It's not particularly expensive, so if you really want to play with gamecube controllers, you should get it.
(By cheap one that works on the wiiU, do you mean the official nintendo one? I'm unaware of any that work on the wiiU aside from the mayflash one and nintendo's official one)
Some people like hooking up other controllers, another great thing about gaming on PC. The Steam Controller works amazingly well for Wii motion games for example. Or you could hook up a GameCube controller using this to play Melee or Brawl.
I start it before, then load the game. Try both modes of input if you can't get it working. I personally use a Mayflash adapter, so I have a dedicated PC Mode on the adapter. I'd suggest using that if you can't get it working at all. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Kk1ezb9M8PVCC
> Crypt of the Necrodancer (2) - I haven't actually managed to rope any of my friends into trying the co-op with me, but I can attest that the single-player is phenomenal.
So, I have. It's really fun.
What's even more fun (or possibly more horrifying, depending on your group of friends): Mayflash GameCube controller adapter ($16) and 1-2 Wii dance pads ($15-$20 from your local used game store). It's incredibly difficult to play but fucking hell it is fun.
If you already own the WiiU, the Mayflash GCN conroller adapter works with both PC and the WiiU.
No, not multiple adapters. Multiple controllers from the same adapter. I would be using the 4 controller supported adapter shown here which would have multiple controllers from the same USB port, basically.
I didn't know that thing existed. This is what everyone uses: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1471281115&sr=8-1&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adapter. It's cheap and gets the job done perfectly and you don't even need a Wiimote. Always go with wired everything when it comes to fighting games.
I have a few GameCube controllers each for 15 shipped.
I also would highly recommend the mayflash 4 port adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE.
This adapter allows for a great feature on dolphin where there is no input lag going from the controller to the pc. You can also find these on ebay as well for about the same price
Dolphin 7840
Mayflash 4 port as seen here
When I say it did not work, it simply produced the same results as when I have the PC mode enabled.
Unfortunately, no.
The Nintendo adapter is only meant to be compatible with the WiiU, and it is a godsend that Dolphin supports it natively. Unless you are using the Mayflash adapter which can switch to PC mode instead of WiiU mode, there is no other use for such an adapter.
I would strongly recommend getting the Mayflash adapter, here
Netplay is a function of Dolphin Emulator that lets you play against anyone who has the same version (everyone is using version 7840 right now). If someone is within your state or coast, you guys can play with relatively low lag. This is definitely the way to go if you want to play with people from other colleges. You will need an adapter, and you'll need a somewhat decent computer. If you want good connection, you need a wired connection.
If you have a 1st party nintendo brand controller, you should be good to go. Just get a CRT and a wii and you can get started playing locally.
Although Xbox controllers are certainly 'plug-and-play' (as you might expect, since Microsoft owns both Xbox and Windows), if you get the Mayflash 4-port Gamecube adapter, Gamecube controllers will also require no setup. The official Wii U adapter also works, but I think you have to install some drivers first (which is still really easy).
Just play on your PC, it's super easy to use and theres virtually no input lag. Much more convenient because you can load up PM instantly rather than waiting forever on the Wii, plus you can play vs others online
The wii u GC controllers work, yeah
There isn't a universal adapter, but they're only two main choices
1) the official GC/Wii U adapter, from Nintendo
2) the four-port Mayflash adapter. This has the advantage of potentially being able to work with non-smash things but I'm iffy if the details here.
This is what I use, so I can vouch for it personally
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE
Not sure of model, but I bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451490964&sr=8-1&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adapter
I just noticed that it says that the adapter works with mac under the PC mode. Does this mean I have to run my mac through bootcamp? It works fine with one controller, just nothing more than that.
Do not think so, but there's this: http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00RSXRLUE
Supposedly works on Wii U and PC. I don't have it, been planning to get it at some point, so I have no way of confirming how well it works. The reviews seem good though.
[QUESTION]
How can I use a Mayflash GameCube Controller adapter with Steam? Can anyone give me some comprehensive steps. (Going to get the adapter soon)
Hey! Looking to buy this Mayflash adapter for my Surface Pro. Just wanted to confirm if it works with just the one USB. It says that the other one makes it so it vibrates or something, but I just want to make sure it operates okay with one usb because the Surface only has one usb input.
Alright, I'll give it a shot. So just to make sure. Slot one will Calibrate Slot two instead of one? and sometimes the other way around? and don't worry I'm in the same boat. Should have been in bed like 5 hours ago. This really makes me want to go back to windows 7. Also would the new mayflash 4 port adapter work well with windows 10??? I might just fork over the $14 if this doesn't work.
You buy a normal one, and then you buy an adapter. The best adapter out there is the Mayflash for $20. I would cancel f310 unless you have any other uses for it. If you need help setting up anything feel free to PM me.
Hmm if I remember correctly the official Nintendo adapter can only be used with Dolphin. I have a Mayflash third-party adapter that has a switch between Wii U and PC. When I use Dolphin, I switch to Wii U mode. When I use as a general PC controller with x360ce I use PC mode
That's a mouthful but I'll give you a brief answer and you can look up the rest:
> How do I get melee on my laptop
You need to download and install Dolphin, which is an emulator for GC and Wii. Good tutorials for this, they are everywhere.
> how do i play online
Haven't done this myself, but you'll need to look for melee netplay and run it through dolphin I believe
> get a controller to work with my computer
You'll need an adapter like this one. You can also look up guides on how to set this up on your computer and how to configure controllers. There are youtube videos.
I'm actually glad that they were out of stock for so long because I gave in and bought the 3rd party adapter by Mayflash. It does the exact same thing as the Nintendo one and it has a PC mode to use Gamecube controllers on the computer. It's also cheaper.Mayflash GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U and PC USB
Do you just not know how to search the internet or something? It's all there...
Wait, the adapter affects lag? I ordered this adapter, is this one good for netplay?
[Edit] switched brackets and parentheses, lol.
My smash club at my school had a lot of help from another club (Leadership) in planning the events. It's important to have the sign ups for monthly tournements at a place people can easiily reach during the school day. For me they have it during lunch at our school store. I would keep the admission fee to 3$ for members and 5$ for nonmembers. Try to advertise with posters and look at your time constraints to determine the max amount of people allowed to enter. Instead of using all the money for the prize pool, you could use it for food at the event. A lot of the time, a big prize pool would attract too much attention and be called "gambling". Try to make a bracket and order of games that will be played without leaving people waiting an hour to play their round 2 game.
At my school we actually do 4 man FFA the first 2 rounds of our 48 man tournies where 2 move up and 2 go to losers in order to help with time constraints. Make sure you have a bracket that works.
edit: multiple setups is good too
if you need gamecube controller adapters buy the mayflash adapter
Alright, since I can only play with the buddies once every week or two I'm thinking of setting up the dolphin emulator and using melee in netplay, does this sub have anything to say about that?
thanks for the reply btw!
I also have the older, 2-port Mayflash adapter. I have not experienced significant lag with that adapter, but apparently the new 4-port Mayflash and the official adapter for gamecube to Wii-U both have lagless, native support with the newest version of Dolphin. So if you're getting an adapter, I suggest going for one of those two four-port adapters. You'd have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Hope it's not too late to get in on this thread. I just installed Dolphin today and I'm having problems getting my controller to work correctly.
I'm using this adapter from Mayflash set to the PC setting and everything works fine except the L and R buttons. In game the R button doesn't respond and all and L works maybe every third or forth press, every other button works as programmed and I used the controller and adapter on a Wii U a couple weeks ago without a problem. I don't have a second controller to test at the moment but does anyone else have any ideas of what I could try to fix it?
(Reposted from yesterdays thread as I got to it pretty late)

I've read somewhere that the Mayflash adapter would work on Mac with Dolphin, but I want to avoid using it as I already own the original one. My question was more about how to make that one work. I might as well buy a Mayflash but it's kind of a waste of money since I already own the other one... I'm a programmer myself, so I could in theory hack my way through it, but I would like to hear from somebody who knows better which point did we reach in the input conversion... or if it's a Dolphin problem and not an adapter/driver problem.
Edit: is this the one you mentioned?
I highly recommend the Mayflash 4-port as it is capable of using Native Support on -5886 like the Official Wii-U Adapter except it's only ~$20. There were rumors about it being less accurate or not calibrating as good but those are false - I asked skid and JMC about it personally on IRC (Dolphin Devs).
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-nintendo-u/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
The other thing besides what adapter is what monitor. You can get a $170 refurbished BenQ and OC them to 75Hz to play with lag equal to CRT (technically 1ms faster) or you can get a CRT monitor for less than $50 and get a VGA -> DVI passthrough.
Without a proper monitor, you're potentially adding another frame of lag. You might be able to look up your monitor on displaylag.com. Just remember those numbers they use are only for mid frame readings so you have to double the lag they say and subtract 16.67ms to figure out the additional lag you're getting compared to a standard 60Hz CRT.
I recently bought this adapter, and plugged it into my PC running Windows 10 for some Melee Netplay. It makes a noise that something has been plugged in both times, but even after installing drivers from their website and trying both PC and Wii U mode w/ driver replacement, the GC controller is not showing up. Is the use of Windows 10 the problem, or am I missing something obvious.
Also of note, the ports I am using definitely work, as they were previously used for my keyboard and mouse, and having both grey and black port do not help, although plugging in the gray adapter does not make a noise.
EDIT: Some possibly helpful information. Looking at my Device Manager, I notice a new USB Input Device with the error
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
A top level collection was declared without a usage or with more than one usage."
Not sure, but it isn't the first time the adapters have gone up on EB Games.
In terms of 3rd party adapters, there's a lot of talk about the Mayflash one.
TBH, your post would probably get better answers on /r/smashbros
The Mayflash single port adapter is wireless. It connects to the wiimote to act as a single gamecube controller. The one I won is the 4 port mayflash adapter. Its the same as the official wii u just 3rd party.
The one I own.. and 4 bucks cheaper too http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-nintendo-u/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429071957&sr=8-1&keywords=mayflash+adapter
Was it the mayflash one? That's definitely not normal and you should consider returning it. I (and many others) have this one and have no problems.
The mayflash wii U adapter has always had a native PC mode, costs less, was never scalped on ebay for $100+, and responds identically. I have one and it's been flawless. I never understood why more people didn't get them during the Great Gamecube Adapter Shortage of 2014. (it was still $20)!
> does this make the official wii u adapter better than the raphnet one now input lag wise ?
Yes. The new builds have native GC adapter support. This means the adapter will be lagless. AFAIK, the only two adapters that work natively with Dolphin are the official Wii U GC adapter, and the new Mayflash adapter.
As for the monitors, I have yet to actually try the new build with a native GC adapter. I'm anxious to see if the input lag is indeed indistinguishable from a CRT. According to the numbers I've seen in my hours upon hours of reading on this matter, a CRT will start displaying the next frame sooner than an LCD; but the LCD will finish the entire frame before the CRT. This is of course, assuming a gaming grade LCD monitor with low lag.
I think the only thing that's been holding back LCDs is the fact that most people have been using them with consoles instead of an emulator. Using a PC+emulator circumvents the issue of turning an analog signal into a digital one (console to LCD), since the PC's video card outputs a digital signal natively.
Same here, haven't tested mine on switch, but it is in fact Mayflash and works perfectly on Wii U.
(anyone reading this in the UK for the record, I live in the US, but the picture is the same and the company is also the same. Here's the link to the US one that I currently own)
I'm assuming that your controller already connects just fine to your pc. If you need an adapter, i'd recommend the mayflash
Once that's done, you should follow the guide on anther's ladder to properly set up melee for online practice. Instead of the basic 5.0 Dolphin, anther's requires 5.9 Faster Melee build of dolphin. Anyway the guide can be found here: https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/272o/melee/how-to-play-melee-online-netplay-guide-faster-melee-proj
As for online resources, ssbm tutorials has great videos detailing character specific tech (falco lasers, fox practice drills, marth chaingrab guide, etc.), universal tech (wavedashing, dashdancing, directional influence), and just general pieces of advice to newcomers.
I'd also recommend Uncle Punch training mode. This is a mod of melee's event mode designed to help practice universal tech such as L cancelling, smash di, or ledgedashing.
The Mayflash 4 port adapters are pretty standard afaik. The Switch/PC toggle is great if you ever want to use GCCs for PC games without messing with drivers.
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
Dolphin is free. Go to smashladder.com and follow their guide for downloading Faster Melee's most recent version. Faster Melee is a version of Dolphin that runs smoother for online play, and is pretty much required for playing people online using smashladder.
You're gonna need to download an ISO file of melee, which is basically the game ripped from the disc. You can try googling it and it shouldnt be too hard. Careful of sketch websites.
If you've been watching for a while you might know the basic terminology already but the SSBMTutorials youtube channel has a lot of good info about the tech. Basic things like L cancelling and Wavedashing can be a little awkward to understand without being shown.
https://youtube.com/channel/UC46ZTid4t2ctB6osM0WTiJA
It's a little tough to get rolling if you don't have a friend to play with all the time that's at your level, but the "Friendlies" tab in smashladder should work ok.
You're gonna need a gamecube adapter. You can buy the official nintendo one, or you can get the Mayflash 4 port. They're basically identical.
Here's the adapter I use. Funnily enough you aren't even supposed to use the PC mode it features to use it with Dolphin. You'll pretty much always use Wii U mode, you just need to do some driver shenanigans in order for it to work. Here's how to do that:
https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/26oz/controller-guide-2-0.
slippi.gg has a Mac version available for download.
You shouldn't have any performance problems, Dolphin can run Melee at full speed on pretty much anything.
If you don't have one already get a Mayflash adapter, it'll let you use your GC controllers with Slippi. The Amazon page says it works with Mac.
Intel 530 HD will run melee at any resolution under 1080p. This one will probably work or this ebay filter. Any intel gen 6 laptop processor will work for the most part. You only need a graphics card that has a passmark score of about that can match or beat this if you want to run Project M a much more graphically intensive game on 2 monitors.

Other places to look:
PSA: Mayflash makes a clone adapter that works on Wii U, PC, and Switch just as perfectly as the official one and can be found easily on Amazon for under $20. https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
EDIT SECONDARY PSA: 8BitDo also makes a wireless 1-port adapter for switch and PC that allows you to connect a single controller to your Switch wirelessly, in tabletop, handheld, or docked mode. https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Adapter-Nintendo-GameCube-Classic-Controllers/dp/B07JLF9PVG
I use the SC where I can and an 8bitDo Pro+ for its better buttons (and Dpad) and plug and play.
For most multiplayer games, I use 4 GameCube controllers since I always have many and they're easiest to pass around.
I would love to combine all 3 of these controllers to make my ideal one with all the features.
Slippi has a pretty good getting started guide!
If you just want to test the waters, a usb xbox controller or a keyboard can work. However if you want to play a little more seriously, a Gamecube to USB adapter is what you want (the official Nintendo one will also work if you happen to already have one!)
This'll do just fine.
Netplay is only available through dolphin (emulator). The reason for softmodding the wii is to play NTSC (American version) and also 20xx etc. (20xx is a mod to melee with extra tools and such)
If you want to play netplay all you need is a decent computer, a mayflash/wii u adapter for your controller and the controller itself. Full guide for setting up can be found here:: https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/26pw/melee-netplay-guide Smashladder is also the place you want to go to find opponents when you're all set up. Controllers and such is pretty much all available through amazon, although they can be a bit pricey. Recommend buying the mayflash controller adapter since it works as good as the wii u one and is a bit cheaper https://www.amazon.co.uk/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1477609700&sr=8-1&keywords=mayflash+adapter
Edit: If you have any more questions about controllers etc, feel free to message me otherwise good luck and welcome to Melee :)
Mayflash 4 port is what you need if you can't find a Nintendo GC adapter, 20 bucks and is a tried and true adapter for Melee: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
Good luck in your melee journey!
Buy a Mayflash adapter, the Amazon page says it is supported by the Switch. I've used one on my PC and Wii U with no issue.
There's an adapter for $20 shipped from amazon.
There's a gamecube controller used from Gamestop for $20. 18 if you are a rewards member. If you aren't a rewards member, you can become one and get a buy two get one free coupon that can get you more stuff. Maybe buy two used gamecube controllers and get one for free.
There's a Wired pro controller that you can get with different game logo's on it for 25 new.

So, 25 bucks can get you a decent wired controller, or 40 bucks can get you an adapter and a good quality used gamecube controller that you can swap for another if it wasn't working in the first week. Hope this helps.
Mayflash 4 port adapter and brand new gamecube controller is your best bet
Very easy to get an adapter, I got this one on amazon, works great just make sure you set up the drivers right or else Dolphin crashes. To set up netplay literally all you need to do is click a checkbox, guide is here.
In regards to laptop vs desktop: As long as you have good enough specs, doesn't matter what you run it on.
You're not letting go of the button fast enough. I'm not sure 360 controller buttons bounce back fast enough. I flick the X and Y buttons for multishining/SHDL.
You should honestly just get a Mayflash Wii U adapter and a GC controller.
Less than $40
You want one of these:
Any non Wii-U adapter is going to have lag because they don't have Native Support.
You also need a good monitor like a BenQ for example to avoid display lag.
http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Gaming-Monitor-RL2455HM-24-Inch/dp/B007HSKSMI
You can also overclock those to 75hz safely to avoid some tearing and reduce input lag by ~3ms to compensate for the ~2ms lost from input processing and response time.
You can also try to find old CRT monitors that use VGA and get a DVI->VGA passthrough.
See my posts here about lag:
https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/2v55u8/melee_hd_important_new_update_272014/
A lot of it is Dolphin based but in terms of explaining monitor lag, it's spot on. An important note though is Wii U's are not as good as Wiis or GameCubes - yes they fixed the adapter problem but there is lag with the emulation (around 10ms).
Don't listen to TheMysteriousMrM in regards to "tournament ready" needs to be a CRT. This is not true anymore. It was for a long time - not in 2015.
In 2015 you can use a wide variety of gaming monitors that have roughly ~2ms of display lag compared to a regular 60Hz CRT. That is plenty fast enough for competitive play and it's what every other fighting game or console game uses - they have the same ~2ms of lag. The main thing to understand is CRTs lag 16.67ms per frame and these Gaming Monitors lag ~18.67ms per frame (barely any difference). Anyway, you can look at MIOM follow up post that has a breakdown of what adapters you can buy here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/26got5/quick_followup_to_miom_lag_article/
I highly recommend the BenQ RL2455HM and the Sewell HDMI adapter with a Wii. You can get refurbished BenQ's around $170 and the Sewell adapter for $30.
If you don't want to buy a Wii or GameCube, you can also just buy a $20 Wii U adapter and play on Dolphin with a Gaming Monitor as well. And with Dolphin, you can use monitors with higher refresh rates.
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-nintendo-u/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
Also note:
Leffen, Armada, Hungrybox, and Mango all practice on Gaming Monitors.
In my opinion, if you want the best picture quality, just use Dolphin. You get full RGB 4:4:4 progressive output, true internal upscaling using vectoring, anti-aliasing, and optional widescreen. You can also play against people online.
so any of it's clones work? for instance this one?
^That's ^why ^I'm ^here, ^I ^don't ^judge ^you. ^PM ^/u/xl0 ^if ^I'm ^causing ^any ^trouble. ^WUT?

best alternative. Works the same. Compatible with wii-u and pc.
That GameCube controller you linked is just a switch pro controller made to look like a GameCube controller. You could definitely use it for slippi, they are PC compatible although you will have to download some third party software to get pro controllers to work on PC. If you are planning on just playing on PC, you could also simply use any generic USB controller that you might already own, I did this for a while. However, I would recommend buying a genuine GameCube controller and an adapter, so that you can use your controller for offline Melee. As far as adapters go, most will recommend the Mayflash adapter, its really solid quality and usually somewhat cheaper than the first-party Nintendo one.
Here it is https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE you can also look on Aliexpress for this adpater
Do yourself a favor and get a better controller setup, shit deadzones make everything feel so awful. I bought one of these with a gc controller and it's amazing.
For anyone looking to get this I wouldn't recommend it unless you really need to save a few bucks. It overclocks really poorly (166.7hz).
If you're looking for an adapter get a mayflash or an official nintendo adapter and overclock with this guide.
get this one https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE your adapter is probably not supported since it's a super funky brand
Use the mayflash adapter, it works just as well as the official nintendo for slippi.
Then follow the overclocking guide on blippi.gg to get the best performance out of it.
Get the Mayflash adapter for Wii u/Switch. Has a toggle between console and pc just in case you want to use it for Dolphin.

Preferably have a Wii over a GC.
Game card,
a game card will have the ucf, universal controller fix which bridges the gap between poor controllers and good so everyone can preform advanced tech no matter your controller. If you don't know about it you should check it out great stuff. This is already implemented in slippi so you don't have to worry about it.
https://b0xx.com/collections/all/products/103
And a GC controller. Then your set.
Extra stuff
Also if you want to go to locals check Facebook, people tend to make City groups for that stuff.
Discord servers: (really helpful, find some invite links via Google search, my links aren't working. I put a star next to the important ones.)

It depends on what adapter you have for GameCube controller. If you use the official Nintendo one that either came with the game bundle or purchased separately as a Nintendo licensed product. You'll want to flow instructions in the link below. It makes it act like an Xbox controller I believe but don't quite remember. It might take some minor tweaking or using big picture mode on Steam. But should work great, just remember to turn the software on and off for when you're using it.
Here's the link:
Or if your adapter is something like the Mayflash GC Switch Adapter all you need.to do is plug it in, switch it to PC mode, and you're good to go.
If any trouble there are plenty of resources, and you could always DM me I suppose too and I'll do what I can to help :)
If you want a high-quality, but more expensive option use this https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/gc_usb_adapter_gen3/. If you want a cheaper option Mayflash is usually pretty good https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=May+Flash&qid=1630093243&sr=8-5
This is the best controller adapter, it's 20 dollars on Amazon
https://slippi.gg/ is pretty much the default way to play online. I don't think there's a way to play Melee online through the gamecube or wii, everything's through emulation. With this you can literally play with any controller or even your keyboard. There's guides out there for setting up your keyboard as a pseudo box style controller if you're interested in that. (Here's one from Leffen.)
That said, if you have any interest in playing in person or at a tournament in the future, definitely pick up an actual gamecube or box controller and get a GC adapter for your PC. The Mayflash 4 port is the standard adapter recommendation.
As for controllers, you could probably pick up a used GC controller off amazon or ebay for 30$ and be fine for the time being. Only once you start getting into the deeper parts of the game should you need to worry about a "quality" controller. Just make sure you're buying official gamecube controllers and not 3rd party. None of the 3rd party controllers are good. (Here's one guide for purchasing controllers in 2021.)
Box controllers are a whole other expensive ordeal and I can't really recommend picking one up right away unless you absolutely need it for the ergonomics. Even then, you can likely get away with using your keyboard for the time being.
Good luck and have fun :D
Known issue with GameCube controller adapters. The lead maintainer is definitely aware of it, I did some troubleshooting with him on the Discord a few weeks ago. Last I heard he was going to get an adapter to further investigate the issue, but the team wants to get v31 out the door first.
I've tried many adapters, the only adapter I know works is the Mayflash adapter, and even then you have to connect it after Batocera is booted. If it's connected on boot it will do the same thing.
Mayflash 4 port is priced around $15-$25 depending on when you are trying to buy it
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
Just buy the official GC controllers(I personally would not pay more than $30), and get the Mayflash GC adapter that will work perfectly for both Switch and PC.
Well this one is in the US too so if you want it, it's there.
Now, something people aren't considering is that if you get a real GCC, you DO have to spend a little extra money for the adapter. Mayflash Gamecube Adapter $20 on Amazon. So $68 to play on a real Gamecube controller. (Although maybe you already have one?)
I don't think there's anything wrong with trying a cheaper third party GC style controller but I can tell you I have had two of these and they do, in fact, feel like garbage.
If you intend to play seriously or ever go to an offline tournament, authentic GCC is 100% the way to go. If you just play at home it doesn't really matter.
I don't see an adaptor for gamecube controllers. If you buy this one, it works great!
The Mayflash adapter does!
You can get a used black/indigo/platinum gamecube controller off of ebay for $40-50 after tax + shipping. Look for T3 versions with OEM sticks. OEM sticks have a small seam down the center of them.
Grab a 4-port mayflash gamecube adapter off of amazon for $20. https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
I noticed without the polling fix too. The polling fix just made it feel that little extra bit better. I think the way the the raphnet is emulated as a standard controller it just has a small bit of lag and the inputs on the stick aren't exactly the same as what they would be on console. The mayflash one when you set it up with the correct drivers makes dolphin think it's actually plugged into a gamecube/wii so it's got the exact same inputs as console without having to go through that extra emulation step. So input lag felt better and things like dashing back and shield dropping felt more consistent.
This is the adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And to get the drivers set up follow this guide: https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/26oz/controller-guide-2-0
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
I use this personally, works great on PC mode. It's also the only 3rd party adapter recommended for Smash Bros if you are into that.
Yea, it's probably the adapter then. I use PC Mode. I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
That adapter has already been reverse-engineered by third parties, at least one of which I know is widely available on amazon for just $18 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/?coliid=I39220DIXT3Z6L&colid=2K5A167LNKYJ6&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it).
I bought a Mayflash GameCube Controller adapter for my GC controllers to use with my PC and it works.
They both are Pelican (PL-9955) universal dance pads that I bought a long time ago.
The GameCube adapter link here.
Downloaded and installed Stepmania and the Simply Love theme on my laptop and use a projector to play.
Found StepmaniaOnline.net and download songs from there.
Oh I thought from your description there that I had the same one as you, but I guess not. This is the one that I have: https://amazon.ca/dp/B00RSXRLUE
It's been working flawlessly on my Wii, WiiU, Switch, and PC.
Dolphin emulator works really well although you will probably have to acquire the ROM in a slightly shady manner.
https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=SSX_Tricky
Also if you want to hook your GC controllers up to your computer
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
Are you looking correctly? On amazon US is 22 dollars. Mayflash GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, PC USB and Switch, 4 Port https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9q39Eb7M4CRHG
No....Dolphin's compatibility is next fucking level imho. There are only a handful of games that don't play well. They're at 95% compatibility with 60% having minor graphical/audio issues but still fully playable. A few require per-game tweaks to play right but that's documented in their wiki for each game. Reading their monthly changelogs makes me know that the people working on the project have full intention on getting everything working no matter how much they need to roll their face across the keyboard.
Pretty much anything well rated by Mayflash or 8bitdo on amazon is going to be what you want for controller adapters or controllers. Just keep in mind that some listed as "switch compatible" have mixed reviews from switch users.
Getting the wii usb bar driver loaded to do native wii emulation is a special process, but everything else works out of the box. I can send you some info re the drivers once I'm back near my emulation box - I'm running all of it with full framerate on a 2400G.
hey man, check this one out: https://www.amazon.ca/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=mayflash+gamecube&qid=1566480085&s=gateway&sr=8-1
this is the most used gc to switch/pc adapter next to the nintendo official ones. very cheap and work great, i have bought two.
Agreed. I bought this one when the game first came out and it has worked perfectly.
Phone or tablet with SD835 or SD845 (855 soon)
A phone camera tripod mount.
And a 17 year old Wavebird.
You do not need to carry both of them around. You can use the button re-mapper function on the included smashbox's software to mimic the hitbox layout. It will support all fighting games that offer legacy controller support, if you have a mayflash adaptor (https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE?th=1).
I have the following re-mapped profile saved and simply load it up if i want to use it as a hitbox. You won't have a PS button, but you will have start/options.
This would be the button reassignment (compare with PS4 controller)

X= X; Y= Y; A= A; B= B; Z= RB/R2; L = LT/L1; R= R1/RT; A+B = LB/L2
Left = X1; Down = X2; Right = Y2; Up = Y1
- Set Mayflash adapter switch to “PC” for use on PS4.
I never use my right thumb for up, only the left thumb. So, it works for me. You can also dual mod the smashbox by installing a ps4+ brook board or Brook UFB in it and switch back and forth between the PCBs if you want your PS button, touchpad button, etc. It may be your ALL-BOX!! : )

Has anyone used either of these 3rd party GC adapters with Switch? Any issues? The Nintendo one shows as out of stock until May 2018 here in the UK.
Here is the one that worked for me: Mayflash GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, PC USB and Switch, 4 Port https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_139cCbFXTH0NR
Does the 4 port mayflash gamecube controller adapter work with ultimate?
this thing
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE
It's not necessarily cheaper (Mayflash actually makes a 4 port adapter too, for USD $20), but I think it looks very nice.
Unfortunately, I have no clue about which adapters do or do not work. I don't own one of the raphnet adapters, I'm just going off the info on the order page.
I personally use this Mayflash knockoff of the Nintendo adapter. To my knowledge, it's functionally identical to the official one and also has a DirectInput mode you can toggle for PC games and the like. Only £14, too--funny how the imitator is superior to the innovator.
As for the D-pad thing, I recall the N64 Zelda games mapping the GameCube D-pad to the L button for map toggling. I could be wrong, but if I'm not, I really don't think including that is worth the effort.
This is more so outside of the realm of the adapter's intended purpose, but the only alternative D-pad mapping I can think of is mapping it to the analog stick. It could be useful for playing 2D games that only support analog input for movement, with examples in mind being Four Swords Adventures on the GameCube and the Touhou games on PC. Again, this feature would be for a very niche audience, so it's really up to you as to whether or not it's worth the trouble.
Also, I also forgot to ask: what is the N64 L button mapped to? I was thinking about using this for NES/SNES VC and the Game Boy Player.
those have the GCN port and not the wii nunchuk/nes classic port. for the GCN controllers Nintendo sells an official adapter that many have since copied to use gcn controllers on the switch. like this one;

https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
I've been playing with this for a while (4 players MK8 with an old-school feel to it). Totally worth it.
Mayflash's adapter is really good! It's a 1:1 copy of Nintendo's official (https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE). As for controllers, they are pretty expensive right now but since Nintendo is about to make a few new batches of gc controllers it might be best to buy a used for now and wait until the new controllers become available.
You should grab a 3rd party one now before they don’t re-release and sell out again.

This one has been great for me, and I can use it on pc.
I bought this and it works with the wired controllers:
You need an adapter to make it work. I use the $20 Mayflash adapter, it works for PC, Wii U and Switch, and Dolphin emulator.
Haven't used that one, but this one is generally considered the best AAIK. Longer cable than Nintendo's and works easy on PC.
I have the one mayflash made and it works wonderfully.
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE?th=1
You can easily buy a Gamecube adapter on Amazon.
I have the cheap $20 third party Mayflash version. There is also an official Nintendo adapter is sold on Amazon for about $90. The Mayflash will allow 4 player multiplayer with gamecube controller for Mario Kart 8. I played through Mario & Rabbids on a Gamecube controller with the Mayflash with no issues.
Yeah, this Mayflash was my first choice. The question was more about whether a GameCube controller is even worth using on a PC in the first place.
Does anyone know if this adapter works:
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE?th=1
Just gotta grab one of these and do a small bit of configuring. They even make one for wiimotes. I've got both, and they're pretty awesome.

Do you know whether a GameCube adapter via USB can plug into the Galaxy S8, to use multiple GameCube controllers? Here's an example of the adapter working with a bigger Samsung tablet, but I'm curious whether multiple controllers can plug in with the S8.
Specifically for multiplayer Super Smash Bros. Melee. Thanks a bunch!

Mayflash Controller Adapter Issues
I have the 4 port Mayflash controller adapter that I use for my PC. Whenever I restart my system, it always freezes when booting up expect when I unplug my Mayflash controller adapter. I can't figure out how to fix this problem and was wondering if any of you lovely people on Reddit did. I also use to have a purple controller adapter that only had two ports and I had the same problems with it. Please let me know if you have had this issue and if you've had any luck fixing it. Thanks!
This: and don't skimp. Get the rPi 3, get one of these, disassemble it, and wire it up to the controller ports on the game cube, use the power supply to power one of these internally, and get one of these and wire it up to the power switch. Then figure a way to reuse one of the back ports with an HDMI extender.
... or whatever.
Have heard only bad things about the 2 port, not sure if it actually has any issues but still probably best to avoid it. Get the 4 port instead. amazon link
edit: Here's the official smashladder controller guide. Definitely read this if you haven't already.
yeah no I found an adapter. Just need a controller.
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1501131388&sr=8-3&keywords=gamecube%2Bcontroller%2Badapter%2Bfor%2BPC&th=1
I use this GameCube adapter with a white USB type c OTG I found in the audio section at Walmart.
Make sure it's the mayflash 4 port adapter and not the 2 port one
It was this model https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
And yes, I am using the native wiiu mode for the dolphin 5.0 version.
You can, even on PC: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=dp_cerb_2?th=1
On the BC Wii it has 4 Gamecube ports.
You'll have to get an adapter too, I reccomend the mayflash 4 port: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00RSXRLUE&linkCode=as2&tag=smashladder03-20&linkId=KCZPS7WCLAGRYRCE
Just follow this guide to set up, it's very quick: https://www.smashladder.com/guides/view/26oz/controller-guide-2-0
Make sure to read the whole guide, USE WII U MODE NOT PC MODE FOR DOLPHIN
I use one of these, which has a WiiU mode/PC mode switch on the back.
This is the one I use as it has a "PC" setting. Haven't had any issues with it.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_y7p0yb252P14K
Stay away from 3rd party gamecubecontrollers. They are horrible and won't last long. Atleast every single one i had yet.
Spend the extra money and buy original gamecube controllers from Nintendo. Trust me it's worth it. If there is any aspect of Nintendo's hardware to praise that it'd be it's resilliance.
The "Mayflash GamecubeController adapter for PC and Wii U" and "Nintendo GamecubeController adapter for Wii U" have native support and function perfectly in dolphin so you don't have to worry about input lag or button configuration or anything else.
Seriously, there is no better way to play gamecube (&Wii) games on pc than with orginial controllers and one of those two adapters.
I've used 4 Gamecube controllers with the Mayflash Gamecube adapter that has the PC/Wii U switch along with 4 Wii U Pro controllers with the Mayflash PC adapter and gotten 8-player to successfully work. I haven't needed to use any programs like x360ce so it seems as though it'll at least accept PC controllers (as opposed to Xbox controllers which likely work too). You just have to get used to how the buttons are placed, which is generally well-done on the Gamecube controller.
So, to more specifically answer your question, you can definitely use a basic Gamecube to USB adapter if it's the Mayflash one. The Nintendo one likely works with a bit more effort, here is an article that hopefully will help. Disclaimer: I haven't tested this method since I have the Mayflash adapter; also the article is from 2014, however the website seems trustworthy on the subject.
Also, I haven't tried PS4, Xbox 360, or Xbox 1 controllers, however I have had success mixing two different types of controllers (mentioned above) with success, so I would imagine it'd still work (as long as the PC recognizes the controllers).
Good luck!
get THIS
Yeah sure man, either get the Mayflash adapter (which I'd recommend because it has "native" mode, and PC mode, so you can freely use it with other games besides dolphin):
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
Or you can get the official Nintendo adapter, which looks better and also works (and you've got the official Nintendo quality):
https://www.amazon.com/Gamecube-Controller-Connection-Wii-U-Nintendo/dp/B00O9GPB00/
What about this adapter ? It comes with 4 ports and it's cheaper.
Hello, I just bought RoA and I've got the same results as this using the Mayflash adapter and this controller, but when I'm on any character select screen (versus mode, practice mode, etc..), the cursor slowly moves up automatically. Yet, when I use THIS controller, everything is perfectly fine. This leads me to believe the problem is with that first specific controller. Any thoughts or comments? I could keep using the black one, but I want to use the white one perfectly as well.
As they probably will be. You live in US? I just buy 'em off amazon
The third party mayflash WiiU one works just as well: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE
I use a Mayflash adapter to play with a GameCube controller, so the controls are identical to the original game.
Something like this, Then just map the buttons as you would with any controller in pcsx2.
The 4 port one. This one http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE
I own this adapter and it works well.
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE
It wasn't being detected by my PC when I had it set to Wii U mode.
Sure do! You can use the one that accompanies a Wii U, but I use this one. If you are looking for a place to do some matchmaking, check out Anther's Ladder. I can normally find a match in under a minute, and Project M is much less popular than melee. There are guides for setting up Netplay on that website, and that whole community is super friendly.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE?redirect=true&ref_=s9_simh_gw_g63_i2_r I got this one, not the Nintendo one.
You can use an Xbox 360 controller, a ps3/4 controller with the ds4 tool or use GameCube controllers with the Wii u or third party adapters like this one.
You can use these controllers for steam games as well.
I use this one for RoA, Melee and PM:
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE
I use this mayflash adaptor which is only 15$ right now. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
Which netplay adapter do you guys recommend?
if you have a GC remote, the barrier to entry is about 15$: http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1446916889&sr=8-2&keywords=mayflash+wii+u
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE Native support w/ Dolphin and it works for Wii U Smash as well, plus it's four ports, can't really beat it at the price point, mayflash is a good brand for stuff like this.
That sucks to hear. If you can afford it there's a Mayflash one for 15 bucks on Amazon.
Sorry didn't know that this is the link to the exact one I picked up.
Good! I would suggest you to buy a GC controller and a GC adapter. Using it for the first time is pretty easy. After you have installed the adapter, Dolphin uses it natively.
Here, on Amazon for less:http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439832478&sr=8-1&keywords=gamecube+adapter+wii+u
It doesn't seem like you tried to look around much at all.
Don't spend $40 on the official one. Get the Mayflash for $16, it works just as good, plus has a PC option.
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE
The mayflash adapter is probably the best one out there because there is no lag, and works great for both wiiu and pc, plus it $30
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE
You buy one of these! Official Nintendo ones work too but the Mayflash adapter has a PC mode to use for other games. Plus it's cheaper.
I would not suggest getting that adapter as it does not support Dolphin's direct connect feature. A better option is Mayflash's newer PC/Wii U adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE
Even though I don't know that forum post you are talking about, there is a solution. You can buy a Wavebird Gamecube controller and GC adapter (Preferably Mayflash) from amazon! And don't worry, the WaveBird controller works with the adapter :) It has been tested before. Hopefully this helps and benefits you!
GC Maylflash adapter ($15):- http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436201457&sr=8-1&keywords=mayflash+gamecube+adapter
Proof that the Wavebird Works: http://www.gamnesia.com/news/wii-u-gamecube-adapter-is-wavebird-compatile#.VZqxZvlViko
It was from the vendor Shop4Fun.
The Mayflash Wii U and PC adapter. http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-nintendo-u/dp/B00RSXRLUE
No, as far as I can tell. But it is great this for $14
You found the two-port one for $4? http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00RSXRLUE/
Mayflash adapter (no input lag, and also features a built in PC switch), game used from a local store or from amazon, and for the Wii U I would suggest getting a refurbished Wii U. They come straight from nintendo and are in near perfect condition. My friends and I all got our systems this way and have had no issues.
So I recently bought a mayflash adapter and it is not being detected in Dolphin, and I need help!
The Mayflash adapter is a cheap alternative to the official adapters that are impossible to find, and you can also train with the Hori battle pad if you insist on not using a Mayflash adapter.
If you have the money to be traveling to tournaments, you have the money to invest in the equipment for those tournaments.
For adapters I'd recommend the Mayflash Adapter. The Hori Battle Pad is also a good choice. If you go with the Mayflash Adapter, Nintendo's Official Gamecube Controller works great.
Non-Nintendo brand adapters are fairly cheap. The Mayflash Adapter is only $22.00 and most people say it works perfectly fine.
sorry yes 4.02 and this adapter
Some have gotten it, but it's not common or easy.
You'd want this: http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-nintendo-u/dp/B00RSXRLUE
bought this today. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Wondering if it will work for dolphin on a mac.
The one with 2 ports is not natively supported by dolphin, and that's most likely what is causing the input lag. I had this adapter a while ago and it lagged pretty bad (I'm assuming this is the one you have?). I recently bought this adapter and have almost zero noticeable lag on my 2 ms response time monitor.
If you are talking about these, they support rumble, but don't work with VC. These act like gamecube adapters.
These are probably what you're referring to. They will have some extra lag, but will work on both Wiis and Wii Us. Anything that you can use a classic controller with, this will work with. So yes, most VC games.
Go get a mayflash one, or any other knock off. They work just a well (if not better: PC mode).
I know this one does (you might be able to find it cheaper on ebay): http://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii-PC-WiiU/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422892084&sr=8-2&keywords=gamecube+controller+adapter
OP and everyone that talks good about them are referring to this one
That one, would probably work for at home. If you're talking about the official 4-port adaptor, I was talking about this Mayflash one. Everyone says its identical plus a PC mode.
Everyone says this Mayflash one is identical to the official one under the hood. If you're in desperate need, I'd say definitely pick it up. It was $35 last night and the price continues to go up.
I've got the Mayflash adapter and it works perfctly http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RSXRLUE
just get the mayflash adapter. its already out http://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii-PC-WiiU/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1421103230&sr=8-6&keywords=mayflash
Are you talking about this one?
I'm currently using this GC controller adapter.
From what I've tried so far it only works when I insert the usb to the USB port and inside the switch hub.
With that in mind. Does anybody know if an Ethernet adapter will work when connected to the outside USB port of the switch hub?
anyone know if I should be buying the official Nintendo gamecube adapter, or will this be fine? The real one is just way more expensive.
Mayflash adapter is good and what's usually recommended.
Here's one that's 15 bucks. The mayflash adapters work on PC and WiiU pretty well. https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Port/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1466097223&sr=8-3&keywords=gamecube+adapter
I personally use a USB to gamecube adapter like this one to play gamecube games, rather than just one controller.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the Mayflash one, and it's five dollars cheaper.
I'm afraid I don't know. But the Mayflash Adapter is amazing, and works on both the Wii U and PC. I recommend it!
If you are using the Mayflash adapter, this wiki article doesn't apply to you. This is for Nintendo's official adapter.
I use the Mayflash adapter and I didn't have to do anything. It was just plug and play.
Practicing online Melee isn't inherently a bad thing. It's really useful in learning the matchups. Depending on your setup/connection though, it may or may not be good for tech skill.
Right now for Melee the best adapters you could use are the 4 port Nintendo Wii U adapter, and the 4 port Mayflash clone. Both of those are natively supported by Dolphin version 5886 (which you should download). I've been using the Mayflash clone with a CRT monitor, and it's beautiful.
Here's a link to the adapter I use. It's about $16, can be used on PC and Wii U if you have Sm4sh, and is actually in stock unlike the Nintendo counterpart.
I agree with the myflash. I got it the other week and it works perfectly. its also only $15 right now on amazon.
You can get unofficial ones. This one for example has pretty good reviews online.
For melee, if you wanna play on a console, you have to get a CRT. that's those big heavy TVs that were around before flatscreens. You can often find them at thrift stores, garage sales, and Craigslist. The reason for this is that converting the signal introduces a few frames of lag, and while it may not seem like much at first, if you switch to a CRT you will absolutely notice a difference. It makes practicing advanced techniques much more consistent and natural.
There is the option of playing on an emulator on your computer, which is both more convenient and less expensive. For that, all you'll need is a controller and gamecube USB adapter (I highly recommend Mayflash—it's about $20 on amazon). This also allows you to play people online through netplay. The main drawback is that all tournaments use CRTs, and going back and forth between monitor and TV can be a little jarring (though many top players like Leffen practice exclusively on emulator with no trouble).
Here's a great video talking about the basics of getting started in general and here's a more detailed video for netplay/dolphin.
Welcome to the community :) if you have any questions feel free to ask, I play on both CRT and netplay pretty equally.
If you wanna play optimally for when the game comes out, you should buy a Gamecube Controller adapter https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Switch/dp/B00RSXRLUE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1541148722&sr=8-3&keywords=gamecube%2Badapter%2Bmayflash&th=1 (this is a third party one, but it works better than the first party one.), and ofc a Gamecube controller to go with it https://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Super-Ultimate-nintendo-switch/dp/B07DJX3Y47/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1541148735&sr=1-3&keywords=gamecube+controller . There are cheaper controllers, but they're all third party and not very good at all. The Gamecube controller is actually considered the only actual good controller to use for competitive , so you should buy these.
