Not an ankle, but I broke my foot right below the ankle bone a couple years ago. I was in an air cast for 6 weeks, then did PT for 6 weeks. At that point I got the all clear to start playing sand volleyball with no ankle support, but for hiking and running my doctor recommended using a good ankle brace for the next 6 weeks just in case. I ditched the ankle brace when I got over the mental fear of injuring myself again, maybe two months?

I am coming back from tearing three ankle ligaments. I've been wearing the Aso Ankle Brace. It's absolutely amazing with its support. It laces up, and has two cross straps and a strap above the ankle. Super supportive and you forget you have them on after a while.
