No problem. I was thinking about this some more and meinl makes some aluminum darbukas. There are a variety of sizes, and they're pretty cheap.
I've used it as a starting percussion instrument for all types of people. You get hand to hand coordination, a low pitch (the doum), a high pitch (the tek), and it's easy to get the right sound.
