I use this slicer. It's meant for slicing meat (and it is great at that,) but it's basically just a sharp, non-serrated bread knife. I guess you might need a true "bread knife" if you have a really hard crust, but for a normal crust, serrations just tear up the bread.
This is a pretty basic / decent slicer that I use when camping:
Generally it depends on your cutting style, I prefer a long flat knife like that for brisket and long smooth cuts.
At home I use the long slicer from our wusthoff classic set.

This is really all you need. And you won't have to worry about anyone fucking up your good carbon steel
Just the biggest one I had around. I didn’t get a proper slicing knife. My regular knife set isn’t the sharpest either. When I get to my next one I’ll make sure to get one more like this
I love Mercer- very similar to dexter or other stamped knives- can’t go wrong.

I have the 14 inch, but the 11 is fine for most situations. its the only knife I have ever cut myself with, because it was so sharp it cut through the soft sleeve I put it in.
had if for 4 years, use it often, still sharp as heck.
Don’t discount a Mercer if you’re not looking to spend too much for a knife you may not use all the time.
Anything by mercer or victorinox is pretty great, their other knives are great too!
Yeah, I decided I wanted that Mercer 11" Granton edge; price @ $17 looked great. Estimated shipping, though? More than $16😳. Exact same knife at AMZN is $21 with free shipping for Prime members ...

You don't need an expensive knife for bbq. I've used a similar one to this for years.

Buy a new knife to slice brisket, that serrated knife that looks like a steak knife is no my what you want. Here’s a cheap but sharp knife.
Feel free to pay more and use whatever else.
Watch this video on how to cut brisket.
I let it firm up in the fridge overnight after smoking it, then used this cheapo knife to slice. I've used it for brisket, etc and it's worked great so far

Can't beat a Mercer blade for slicing (and cost). Last one I bought: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PS1HRM/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
