Oh that’s the hydrometer ! I got it from Mini Hygrometer Thermometer 2PCS Mini Digital Humidity Gauge, AikTryee Hygrometer Indoor Humidity Monitor, Temperature Humidity Gauge Meter for Humidors, Greenhouse, Garden, Cellar, Closet, Etc https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QMZL448/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_-2xbGb4S7PNPK
I go straight to Grove bags that cures it automatically without much need for burping. I still burp a little if the moisture level is high. After a month or two I put it up in Mason jars.
get some tiny humidity sensors for your bags and jars to keep an eye on it.

I order some every few months and almost have enough for each bag and jar, but you can just move them around and test each one in a few minutes.
So these are not made for reptile tanks but i have them in all three of my crested vivs and theyve held up well. I have them stuck to the side of the tanks with a piece of double sided gorilla tape. You can get them in packs of 6 for hot/cool areas too.

I also have a tent in the basement. My dehumidifier runs 24/7 in the spring and summer. It super dry in the basement as the temperature drops outside. I have to have a humidifier in the tent running almost non stop since November. I would advise you to get some hygrometers. I thought it was going good in the tent but I was getting some nutrition lock out.

What’s your temperature? What’s your humidity? Environment is key. In my bucket I used this because others were too big.
If you’re afraid of your watering amount/frequency; let the soil mostly dry up before you water again.
That’s a thermometer I’m talking about a thermostat like one that you plug your lights into to keep them at a certain temperature a really good thermostat is the 600w exo terra (I use this one) it’s a bit pricey though. I would also recommend getting a new thermometer since those exo terra ones are really shitty I use these ones and they work really well also double as hygrometers https://www.amazon.com/AikTryee-Hygrometer-Upgraded-Temperature-Greenhouse/dp/B07QMZL448/ you need a thermostat for any heat source especially one that’s 100w those will produce wayyy too much heat and burn your gecko
It depends on where in the enclosure you are measuring. I’d recommend getting 2 combi meters. One on the warm side and one on the cool side to ensure a good gradient in your tank.
On the warm side you should aim for 90F and the cool side 75F. So far I have found these to be the most reliable thermo and hygrometer combo I could find. Cheap and better than the exo terra ones I’ve tested. The 2-pack allows you to place on on the cool end and one on the warm end.
A 10.0 is very strong imo, especially when using a bulb instead of a linear tube. Bulbs are much more concentrated and not the ideal way to provide UVB. A small 12” 5.0 linear tube would be a better and safer option.

No problem! Ooh those sound fancy! These are the ones I use. They’re cheap and can’t really get wet but they work well enough for checking basic levels around the house!
I also have a below ground cellar. I use these below ground for my wine and above ground for my houseplants (tracking the humidity).
If your natural underground cellar isn't a perfect 58 degrees in the height of summer that is okay, as long as its dark, somewhat humid, and the temps remain stable. Remember, in real old-world cellars temps naturally rise and fall in the summer and winter. Mine gets into the mid 60s in summer and low-mid 50s in winter and I do not worry about it. Temp changes are gradual and natural.
Edit: I read too fast and saw you want something you can track on your phone. This isn't that. Sorry.
I can't find the formula for it right now but even if you are at sea level, if the humidity is 100% and the temperature is at 80 degrees, it's like you are at 3000 feet with the oxygen drop (like where I'm at in Florida right now).
By the way many weather apps just use the data nearest airport so they aren't accurate since humidity "lives" in pockets, you can buy a $10 monitor with indoor/outdoor sensor for where you live. or these little ones are handy 2/$5 (but I have a few and no two of them give quite the same reading) https://amazon.com/dp/B07QMZL448
I recommend these.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QMZL448/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_zGS0EbNEN3B3F
Nothing fancy, very cheap, and pretty accurate. Of course you want to test each one to see how accurate they are. They can’t be calibrated, but you’ll be fine as long as you test so you know how many degrees out of calibration each one is. Search hygrometer on Amazon and there will be numerous results with this and similar units in packs of 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, etc. I’ve had 12 of these in tuppadors without issue.
Here’s what my bag looked like just before I opened it up to try and fruit in the bag (April 7th) https://imgur.com/a/xJM4oxK
Yours doesn’t look too far behind where I was.
I fanned and sprayed the walls of the bag several times daily.
It wasn’t until April 16th that I started to see knots forming on the top layer, then on the 23rd I started to see pins ( see post history). I was confused bc the first pins were growing on the plastic walls of the bag and not the mycelium!!
I was worried that if they fell off the bag when I would open/close it for fanning, it would rot and cause contam. So I picked them off the sides of the bag with a sterilized tweezer and decided to just go ahead and birth it into a fruiting chamber (a little risky bc of contams) but wiped everything in the area and the bins with isopropyl alcohol and used disposable latex gloves before filling with vermiculite and adding aluminum and birthing the bag. it looked like this at first https://imgur.com/a/9Qku5cP
Now, four days later, here we are! https://imgur.com/a/7z7N1u8
I’ve since invested in this humidity/temp tool to help ensure they are staying at 75-80 with 99% humidity.
I keep it on its own piece of aluminum foil out of the vermiculite.
Happy growing friend!
Right - Here's the full list!
Enclosure:
Originally I was keeping her in a 30g (petco suggestions smh) but about two months ago I moved her up to a 55g
Temps/Humidity:
- Cool side: between 70 and 74, 32% humidity
- Basking spot: between 87 and 92, 20% humidity
- Warm side: 82-85, 26% humidity
Measured w/ two digital thermometers (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QMZL448?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)
UVB:
- Lights are 2 18-inch 10.0 (enclosure is a 4x1.5x1 or smthn like that)
- UVB covers the whole tank
- One was bought in feb. of this year, the other abt two months ago (looking into buying a new uvb)
- Not sure what type of uvb but it's a long plastic rectangle w/ a reflective thing inside
Vet History:
- Unfortunately she doesn't have any - I've been working on saving money up to get some and have an appt. scheduled for mid-January
Diet:
- Vegetables: spinach, lettuce, collard greens, peppers, occasional carrots daily
- Fruits: Strawberry or blueberry once every month and a half or so
- Insects: 10-12 crickets or dubia roaches, once a week (i tried super worms once but she took frighteningly long to pass them)
- Insects are supplemented with ZooMed Reptivite

Preferably you’d want to provide both UVA (through overhead heating) and UVB (separate light fixture).
Here’s the visual guides on heating and lighting for leopard geckos:
I measure humidity via simple combi meters I got from amazon. You can put one on the warm side and one on the cold side. Aiming for 40% on the warm side and 50% on the cold side.
I do use loose substrate, so it’s easier to maintain humidity. But in winter when the humidity in my room drops towards 30% because of the floor heating, the humidity in the tank drops even lower because of the heat source. So then I use a humidifier to bring up and stabilize humidity in the room near the tank.
Also, don’t forget to get multivitamins of you haven’t already :)
1) Enclosure size would be fine for a juvenile, but an adult requires a minimum size of 90x45x30. Since the price difference is not too big I recommend going for the bigger one right away, having to upgrade after x months and paying such a high amount of money twice would be a shame!
2) Heat mats do provide belly heat, but the heat does not penetrate into their muscles and deep skin tissue. For that reason you’ll have a much happier and more active gecko when opting in for overhead heating. Also taking into account a heat mat won’t work with loose substrate. To still be able to provide belly heat with loose substrate and overhead heating you can put a slate cutting board underneath the lamp and the warm hide, natural floor heating 👌🏻
3) I have this substrate and I really hate it :( It dries out very quickly, becomes dusty and hardly re-absorbs new moisture once dried out. I switched to Arcadia Earth Mix regular for that reason and like it a lot more! But it’s also really over priced as you’d need at least three to four 10 liter bags. I regret not making my own top soil / play sand mix for that reason 🥲
4) Gave me wrong humidity reasons and again overpriced. My cheap ass digital ones turned out to be much more reliable!
5) In combination with overhead heating (halogen/DHP) I am extremely happy with my Habistat Digital Dimming Thermostat. Habistat really is an awesome brand
6) I do use repashy calcium plus, but note that it contains too much multivitamin/D3 to use for every feeding. So I recommend dusting twice a week max with it and use plain calcium for other feedings.
7) I made this mistake as well. Assumed small hides would be big enough for a leopard gecko. My soon outgrew them really quickly and I had to repurchase all the hides for bigger ones, which was expensive. So I recommend going for medium or large hides right away as it will save you money in the long run. My boy also prefers Trixie (europe) hides over the exo terra ones, but that of course may be different per gecko.
9) Same for the hides. The small plants are really really small and hardly provide any enrichment or shade. So I had to replace these ones as well for the large size. Exo Terra is a rip off when it comes to paying money for the small size options. Those are really miniatures 😂 I personally love the Ficus and the Boston Fern and Laurel Bush for my gecko’s enclosure as those really fill up the space nicely and allows my gecko to climb on them too.
Hope this helps! :)
I get that for sure, keeping reptiles is very expensive and it’s often under estimated. I’d like to recommend a very cheap product that has worked great for me to have ambient measurements. I started out with the expensive Exo Terra combo meters, the readings were far off. I then for a 2-pack of these for $5 off Amazon and tested their reliability via a simple salt test. I placed one on the warm side and one on the cold side, actually a third one in the middle as well, but already having them on either end of the enclosure will give you a good continuous reading.
Not sure how big your room is. I keep my gecko in my living room and the humidifier next to the tank where the mist will go over the mesh top and fall into the enclosure. And it really only increased humidity very locally in the room, it doesn’t really increase the levels in my entire living room :)

I have a similar one and printed two tray-extensions https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4754084 and remixed a hole for hygrometers https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07QMZL448/ (I adapted this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3850426 plus the interlocking one above into the one I use) https://i.imgur.com/a2NoB9G.jpg my finished product.
you probably don't need to recharge your desiccant to that often you can get a pair of humidity sensors for $6 dollars, or some color changing beads for $17
I have a tote that hasn't been charged in a year and the beads haven't changed colors. Obviously depends on your HVAC/climate
Do you have a humidity gauge and a temp gun? All reptile owners should have a temp gun for super accurate readings for different parts of the enclosure.
Unfortunately, those temps are waaaay too low :( ambient should be a minimum of 75° and basking spot should be closer to 100°. Where do you have your heat mat probe situated? Heatmats don't penetrate the substrate well and often aren't adequate. I'd highly recommend getting a CHE (ceramic heat emitter), or even better, a DHP (deep heat projector) in order to raise the ambient temperature. Then put a piece of slate directly below the overhead heating element to make a nice basking spot that naturally retains heat. My KSB doesn't lay on top of the slate like my other reptiles, but he has dug himself a nice little cave directly under the slate and that's where he spends a majority of his time ❤️
Regarding the substrate, I don't like the coco fiber as I find it to be very dusty and holds moisture too well. Personally, I use a 70% topsoil + 30% sand mixture, but if you don't want to go that route, I'd recommend aspen shavings over coco fiber any day.
Bumping the temperatures up might resolve the mouth rot on its own, but if you're able to, going to the vet for a check up and antibiotics is obviously preferred.
Reddit crashed while I was writing up my comment and I had to type it all up again, so sorry if it seems curt or I've missed anything. If you have any questions please let me know.

yea no such thing as to many holes, because if it becomes to dry you can just cover the holes with tape. i think a minimum of 30 holes on each side, do a full 60 on the lid. Use aspen or paper towels/newspaper to ensure it stays dryish. but you can easliy get ones that will just stick to the inside of the enclosure and measure the ambient temp/humidity. i get mine off amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QMZL448/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Get a hydrometer. if it reads under 95% RH then mist.
or add water or hydrogen peroxide (breaks down to water after killing bad stuff) to the perlite to raise the RH.
or set up a fogger on a timer and never mist again.
or set up a bubbler, just a jar of water with a aquarium air pump hose in it (least recommended, as you need to change the standing water often, but it works in a pinch.).
