Disclaimer, I've never used them, but I've studied espionage through the lens of history and I do know that the CIA uses bags like this to make cell phones not emit or receive signals. Still won't help you if you don't scub your location data from the gram tho.
This bag works extremely well for me. I've had this for 6 months and it is still in good condition, which I cannot say for the other bags I have tried (especially the cheap ones). I've purchased a bunch of bags from Mission Darkness and all are high quality.
I actually shouted at someone scoping my neighbors car in the middle of the night because I've had a lot of people rummage through my car parked on the street before I figured out a system for remembered to lock all my car doors. I was so enraged that I don't think I was seeing clearly, because it was my neighbor. I apologized but still feel bad about it.
They say "see something, say something"...hopefully I at least gave them a story to laugh about with their friends :-/ (I'd probably do it again because the behavior angers me so much because I learned long long ago not to keep anything I am attached to in my car. It's just annoying to feel violated and they always put their hands in my gum).
Also if you're parking on the street and have a car that unlocks when you touch the door if the keys are in range...consider ensuring that wherever you keep your keys at night are not in range or are locked in an effective faraday device--do your own research because this is the first one I found but something like this could work if physical distance is difficult. https://www.amazon.com/Mission-Darkness-Non-Window-Faraday-Phones/dp/B01A7MACL2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp&qid=1534549465&amp&sr=8-1&amp&keywords=faraday+bag
More sophisticated thieves can "boost" your keyfob's signal to access your vehicle and a proper farady bag will prevent that. But the thieves I see on my surveillance cameras aren't those types, they're just checking doors to see if they're unlocked, so it's probably overkill if you can just make sure you bedstand is out of range.
I learned recently there are faraday bags:
Not endorsing amazon, just use them for getting a gauge of what's available and typical prices
Because none of that is enforceable. Even if the phone made you give a blood sample to turn it off, all a thief would have to do is drop it into a faraday cage bag for a day or two until the battery died.
> No, of course not. We aren't dealing with a brainiac here.
they actually cell bags for this

power off? bag with shielding? here's a quick search for such bag: https://www.amazon.com/Mission-Darkness-Non-Window-Faraday-Phones/dp/B01A7MACL2
They make Faraday bags that don't let signal in or out for this exact purpose.
You can buy Fararday bags on Amazon for $20...this isnt rocket science.

Great advice and ideas. Hadn't though much about it beyond using a VPN for the past 24-18 mo. One thing I'd suggest is for ppl who follow this guide is to pick up a Faraday bag to keep that burner phone in. I got a couple of them b/c so many phones nowadays have batteries you can't (easily) pull out.
I picked up this one for the same cost it's going for today, then decided it wasn't quite what I needed for a pretty small form factor cell phone. I replaced it with this one which is just easier to use and increased my program compliance. Lol. What I've mainly used it for is when I take my daughter's phone away...that way I don't have to hear her friends pinging her at all hours.
You can use this Feraday Bag to isolate your phone from the world. It's fairly cheap, at $23 dollars and its amazon prime =).
Your welcome.
