I can get a PID and an SSR for 50$ you say? I was under the assumption PID's were quite expensive (The ones used for roasters and coffee machines I've seen anyway) I am all ears though. :)
P.S. I got the idea for the Router Speed Control from people who use it for the same purposes I do so, perhaps my problem is model specific.
One more note--you will need to purchase a power control device to make sure you don't boil over. Many people use a PID hooked up to a temp sensor. Others use a power regulator (digital, analog) wired to an outlet control box.
Or you can get a out of the box control unit like this though the reviews are mixed.
I have one of these guys on my regular router for control of materials flow. it might help with yours if you want to upgrade the router.
