For applied regression models I'd recommend Modern Applied Statistics with S and Extending the Linear Model with R they cover linear and generalised linear models with plenty of R. For the more theoretical side there's there's Introduction to Mathematical Statistics and Probability and Statistical Inference, which delve deeper into proofs.
I haven't personally had a lot of experience but some basic machine learning tools are probably worth picking up. Wackerly is by no means an advanced text, after understanding the basics you can either go extend your toolbox with many regression models and machine learning. Alternatively you can pick up some more theoretical books to understand the reasoning and history behind many statistical ideas.
