So far just a little bit of D2R. Smooth on highest settings. I bought a portable laptop riser to ensure good airflow, would be interesting to measure the difference in perf.
> Elevate off desk so bottom air intake is not blocked and has some distance between itself and desk
I bought a portable laptop riser for this reason and I really like it.
> Remove bottom chassis and peel off the paper backing which acts as a sound deadening material
Are fans much louder after taking it off? If you remove this and the other thing does it void warranty?
Your guess is as good as mine. Try different battery settings. Also if your putting your laptop directly on a surface you should consider purchasing some kind of stand or riser. I bought a portable riser and was pretty happy with it:
By the way I ended up returning my P1G4 (you have 30 days). 2 reasons: the keyboard and mouse buttons are not on par with previous thinkpads I've owned, and the expensive hardware is massively throttled, bad thermals. I instead purchased a T15g, slightly more expensive but this thing is a true beast, way better thermals, way better keyboard, extremely serviceable and upgradeable, future-proof. Downside is that it is heavier but I can live with that, it's a proper portable desktop imo.
If it gets too hot, it will automatically throttle. Laptops run hot, and more heat = shorter lifespan, not a lot we can do really. If you want to improve temperatures, raise the back of the laptop off the desk to help with airflow. Check out these if you're looking into a slightly better but still cheap solution. I use these with my Alienware laptop and gave the other set to my GF to use with her XPS13. Works great!
Sweet! You're welcome!
So I got a stand from my grandparents, but it is pretty much exactly this:

[I think Amazon may sell a cheaper one for around 20ish]
But yeah, this is the closest I could get to the stand I have. It may even be the stand tbh, but it is at home and I can't post a pic for reference. This one is same material and design though.
You could try these
Works just as good as a cooling pad.
I ended-up going back to a mouse…
I have a Micro Ergo Touchpad I am playing with on the palm rest on the left half of the Moonlander, but no opinion yet.
As for risers on the trackpad, I just stuck four doorstops to the bottom to make a stable stand. These specific ones have been my go-to for testing of tilting or risers as they have good grip.
I have heard that cooling pads don't do much for the laptop, but risers are best. Don't quote me on that though.
Also, for headphones, Alienware sells a relatively cheap pair of 7.1 wireless headphones, though the mic quality isn't to be desired for. If your not looking for a good mic on them, it'd keep your setup cohesive and no dangling cable! :)

Hope this helps!
