Best way I've gotten around this is to keep a small notebook, something like this, in my case. When I finish playing, I write the date, the game I'm playing, and a log of where I am/what I'm supposed to do next. ex: 10-11-2016 - Legend of Zelda: OoT - Finished 3rd dungeon, go to Temple of Time.
