I have kept my workstation on the carpet over the last 10 years and I have not had any issues with that. Just be aware of the fact that it will not be possible to install bottom intake fans (if required), without raising the case using some means.

Recently I bought this 2 pack stand and lined them up along the smaller side, and placed my Cooler Master HAF-X on it to allow intake airflow from the bottom of the case. There are holes underneath to aid with airflow.

My case weighs well over 50 lbs given the large number of hard drives and other components within, and it is very stable and holding up without any issues so far. Here are the pics showing this.

Get one of these, and place it on top of your case.
