I have a fairly cheap combo monitor and laptop arm. Both the clamp and the grommet adapters have some decent padding coverage on the top sides.
I was using the standard clamp when I first installed it and then moved it to one of the desk's grommets. After moving from the clamp to the grommet adapter, I didn't notice any marks on the top of the desk. I am pretty sure I have removed the arm from the grommet once and I don't remember seeing any marks that would have resulted from the arm being in contact with the desk.
My desktop is carbonized bamboo which, though I love the way it looks, seems to be a relatively soft wood.
I'm pretty sure they make moniter/laptop combo desk mount arms. I would recommend looking into that and also just cleaning up the cables in the corner a little bit. You can grab a cable sleeve or just some velcro ties, a little goes a long way with cables. Nice setup nonetheless!!
EDIT: just for reference https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_WR5B21SA2AAK7V96939F
Thanks ❤️ It’s part of this one from Amazon. Going to try and modify the other part to hold a pair of XDJ700’s for non vinyl friends to use. 🙂
It's this one. It's nice because it comes with two vesa monitor arms so you can choose to use the laptop tray or do dual monitor. I bought it after seeing it on ultralinx/oliur's latest desk setup video
It’s from HUANUO, it’s a little wobbly and doesn’t feel super sturdy but it works fine, here is the link:
I just set this one up at home two days ago. I have an expensive two arm mount at work. This one was a bit more finicky to set up, and doesn't have all the little micro adjustments, but once it's set up, it seems surprisingly solid.
I just got This monitor & laptop mount a few days ago for my home office and it's nice to help minimize the surface area covered on a desk, you could try that for your setup. Then I would get rid of the laptop riser, maybe move the computer riser to hold some of the random items to the left of the desk, get a small filing system to put on the right side of the desk. Minimize as you're able like the others have said
Similar to how I started. Just swap gaming laptop for PS4. Played normal games while away, or on the road. At home, I built a wooden rig for my G920 with a stand that held a monitor and a laptop. Plug my G920 into the rig and race away!
Thanks OP, got 2! My current monitors (2x 27in) are mounted on a single vertical pole with two branches, sort of like this but with a second monitor instead of a laptop stand. It works decently well, but the wobble is pretty high with two monitors hanging off a single mounting point. It also isn't very easy to adjust (which isn't a big deal, as I rarely do).
Hoping that giving each monitor it's own arm will make them a lot more steady.
Picked up one of these last week https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DWM9WNM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Was kinda hoping the tray would be ferrous enough for the ipad to stick to it, but had the backup plan of sitting the ipad+magic keyboard on it like a traditional laptop.
Might take a hacksaw/angle grinder to the tray so it’s a better fit, but works pretty well as-is!
Attachment is sturdy enough that a decent effort is needed to remove the ipad, so there’s no worry of it falling off. To the point it can have a charger or whatever plugged/unplugged while it’s on the stand and it doesn’t move. Works fine with the ipad in landscape too, or the tray can be rotated on the arm. Much recommend

The big screen is a LG 48OLEDCX.
The thing on the left is a combined laptop/monitor stand. https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07DWM9WNM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
At home I use the laptop issued by my employer for work, since performance is better then the remote desktop connection you have to use from a private device. So I put my work laptop on a stand together with a small mobile screen (Asus XG17AHPE). Combined with the Razer Blade it also makes a nice dual-monitor setup that is great for both gaming and work while still being pretty portable. Both are 17.3" but fit in a bag hat is made for 15.6" notebooks.
Thank you! Here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_D5S5A5G92KN334A69SJS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The bar above my monitor is the BenQ screenbar. It’s basically a light bar to prevent glare and helps me when I want to read or do work at my desk.

This is what I got for my laptop and other monitor. I had to reinforce the table with a piece of 2*4 since the linmmon is not hardwood and. I dont have a picture of my setup rn since I am on a work trip out of the state but once I come back I can send you a picture. 👍🏾
Typical suggestion of a plant or succulent.
Actual suggestion of maybe moving the Dell to the other side of the desk to free up space in front of you for working.
Depending on what is you're doing, you could potentially mount it with the monitor with something like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_dl_JN6W42CNPM1FDR60YTR9
If you need both the Mac and PC at the same time, some software KVM software may be useful (if you don't have any already).
I like my desk setup being ergonomic!
Thanks for your reply. I cleaned my laptop by using a kitchen towel to get the big dust particles off the fans first. While making sure that I don't lodge more dust inside the components and that everything falls out. Then I used a compressed air can to blow the rest of the dust off. I have done this procedure before about 5 months ago, but using a dry paint brush instead of a kitchen towel. I try to clean my laptop at least twice a year.

I have had this pc for 2,5 years now. Always kept it on a desk and never used it on a pillow. Since about 3 months ago I moved my laptop to a laptop stand and monitor combination. As for the environment, I am an engineering student which means I mainly use it at home and at school. Ambient temperature at home is about 21 celsius. Dust levels in my room is good, the room is well ventilated.
I use something like this
One arm for the screen and the tray for the laptop.. the model i have can convert into two screens or kept at one screen one laptop tray.. not sure this one does the same but I imagine it does

Hi! Here’s an Amazon link to the stand I bought. I’ve had no complaints, it’s a very good product.
Laptop Monitor Mount Stand with Keyboard Tray, Adjustable Notebook Desk Mount with Clamp and Grommet Mounting Base for 13 to 27 Inch LCD Computer Screens Up to 22lbs, Notebook up to 15.6”, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_fabc_4RZ8DN33NHMCDK5MFNBS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Check out this monitor stand / laptop mount. I'd start with this. Get yourself a wireless keyboard and mouse combo. Lifting the laptop and monitor off your desk will free up space to put your controller and interface below. https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Stand-Keyboard-Tray-Adjustable/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ Also, having a keyboard tray below the desk is a good space saver as well.
I actually just have the free dongle included with the xps for hdmi and the power cable in the right usb c as of now. The monitor mount is great and definaltey keeps things clean while giving me more screen and desk space. Here is the Amazon link to the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_cya5FbR98WGFJ
I really like this mount, it’s organized and looks good. It does feel kinda wobbly if you shake the laptop or monitor at the hinge, but I am not worried about it damaging anything. A lot of similar companies make the same sort of thing so you can just search Amazon for it but I will link mine: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_-K94Fb0KQSYHH
You can use something like this. I personally don’t have it but have seen many people on YouTube who have this style of setup.
Thanks! So my Monitor and Laptop arm I got off of Amazon. Just set it up right before I took this photo. It was only $33 when I ordered it too. It’s still on sale. It’s normally $60 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. My Monitor is a 24” MSI Curved Gaming Monitor from Microcenter I got it back in May(?) when my previous job went WFH.
I'm using this laptop / monitor stand which unfortunately isn't included in my listing.
Laptop Monitor Mount Stand with Keyboard Tray, Adjustable Notebook Desk Mount with Clamp and Grommet Mounting Base for 13 to 27 Inch LCD Computer Screens Up to 22lbs, Notebook up to 15.6”, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_6y2PFbS8YTN9K?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
If the laptop is necessary and you don't have a desktop, you should look into a dual monitor stand with a laptop attachment. Do a simple Amazon search. It will bring everything off the desk for more space and a clean look, and will help position the laptop in a more suitable fashion. Check out this stand here just for a quick idea.
You could look into something like this. I purchased one a few weeks ago and don't have any complaints from a technical standpoint (it does exactly what I expect it to). Functionality-wise....eh. If you're just sitting at your desk it'll work for you just fine. I happen to move around A LOT (a little sitting, and a lot of standing. Sometimes I just want to move the monitor up and out of the way and just use the laptop on the stand), so on the fly adjustments are impossible.
tl:dr really think about how you use your laptop at your desk (and even away from it) and go from there.
>Sorry guys! It's this one from Amazon. Full disclosure, it's rated for up to 22 lbs (my monitor is 19.8) and while the pole itself holds it just fine, the arm that extends from behind the pole did bend initially under the weight of the monitor. That being said, it's holding it just fine, even with the additional (light) weight of a light strip mounted on it, and it shakes less than with the base it came with. But just wanna be clear that this is a $60 arm, it's no ergotron, and if it fails I'm just gonna accept that I need to spend like $200 lol. Anyway sorry again hope this helps yall

Thanks!
And sure, it's the HUANUO laptop monitor mount stand. [I found it on Amazon for $49.99!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM?psc=1&ref=ppx\_pop\_dt\_b\_product\_details
I believe I have the same one, but this is what I ordered.
I use one of these link. Works well for me and plenty of space underneath for keyboard.
Thanks! I use these mounts: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
And these trays: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z1VBIE0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Something Like this:
I'd bought it a long time ago, I think it was the 'BONTEC Monitor Arm Mount with Laptop Tray for 13 to 27 inch LCD LED Screen & up to 15.6 inch Notebook,Tilt Rotation Swivel Ergonomic Desk Stand Bracket with Clamp, VESA Dimensions: 75x75-100x100mm ', although I'm unable to find it.
Boo. This might go on the list after I get a new monitor! Doing this for now https://i.imgur.com/cL9VLDE.jpg
Via one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DWM9WNM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I assume any metal laptop tray vesa arm thing oughta work though
https://i.imgur.com/sZfVHA1.jpg I’ve got mine on a VESA mount “laptop tray”. The magnets hold it on there just fine, doesn’t move without decent motivation.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DWM9WNM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Is the one I got, but if I was buying again, I’d go for a set of those gas powered arms that are easier to reposition
So this is the one I used from Amazon which admittedly was cheap for what it was but surprisingly worked very well. I struggled to find one that was designed for ultra wides and laptops specifically also. Now this does the job on my LG 34WP85C-B , but only just. If I’m honest I don’t know if it work with 38 inches, i just don’t know if it will be wide enough when mine only just about fits side by side with the monitor. If you had a 34 inch I’d say go for it, otherwise you may be better served with two separate mounts.
Of course, it’s just this cheap one I got from Amazon.
Of course ! it’s from Amazon
Of course, it’s just this cheap one I got from Amazon. It holds both the monitor and the laptop up together.
Sure. Just a generic amazon mount

VIVO makes the exact same stand but the one above has no logos!
https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Adjustable-Computer-Monitor-STAND-V002C/dp/B00FOTABWY
I have this. It is great and sturdy. Holds my 16inch laptop and the 27inch while also being moveable.
Without knowing your laptop specs (nor what you want to stream) I can only make general recommendations....
Keep in mind there's really different levels of streaming. At a minimum a PNGTuber with a good mic is a solid starting point for many that just want to get started (and can't/don't want to spend the money for a more advanced setup). That can be done with any decent enough notebook. So starting from there as a base...
I would say that if your laptop currently can handle streaming (and by that I mean encoding the stream, but not necessarily playing a game on it at the same time...) then maybe get a slightly better than "cheap mic" and go from there ( tend to recommend the AT2020 and [https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/at2020usb)... with the USB version for really budget minded). Plenty of art streamers something do that and start solid. If you have a console you can still game, while using a lower spec'd desktop.
You mentioned your capture device is a footage recorder. That may be fine if you don't plan to stream, but it may not be fast enough to live stream games (from say a console). At one point I actually had an HDPVR60 I tried when I was producing a live stream for my friends podcast. I quickly replaced it because it 1) wasn't compatible with OBS and 2) had a major amount of lag. I eventually did some stuff with a Razer Ripsaw, then a Elgato Camlink 4k, and now have a Evga XR1 Lite and Pro (and generic no name 1080p USB devices). All of the newer devices have massively improved latency and just work with OBS.
From there an additional monitor (or two) may be worth looking into. Maybe even some kind of laptop/monitor mount, so you can put things an an ergonomically good level (while improving laptop thermals).
Finally, something like a Stream Deck (even the Mini) can improve your workflow and automate much of your stream operation. It's not a requirement, but its one of those cheap-ish upgrades that can do more to improve your production quality for managing your stream than dropping $3000+ on a sick gaming desktop.
These items combined are probably around $400-500ish total (which isn't a too big a chunk of your savings). And the good news is they can be used with other upgrades in the future. For example, lets say you wanted a full desktop to replace your laptop. You can do that and still keep all of these items for use. (even the monitor mount, you can just take off the laptop tray arm)
If you wanted to upgrade from a PNGtuber to a live 2d avatar, then you can add a webcam or iPhone. Of course that could immediately double your price (There's a a thread linked by some other poster where I was discussing iPhone options, so check that recommendation out). If you want to go for 3d, that's an option too.
Of course a lot of this assumes that you don't run into issues with your notebook. If that machine simply can't handle what you want to do. (or if you don't have at least a console at the moment) then you may simply need to get a decent starter machine. Here's a post I made on that, just in case.
With all that said, I think you'd be best off defining a budget you'd feel comfortable and what level of production you want to put in. I would say that since moving out on your own is a priority you probably want to minimize how much you spend. Because you're going to find real life stuff you'd need to get once on your own, that you probably haven't yet considered. And also because you want a decent little amount of savings to hold onto. I would seriously not recommend spending too much of your savings trying to make a super setup.
Of course, feel free to hit me up with any additional questions or context that may need clarification.
You can get a monitor+laptop holder stand (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM) and save a lot of space. That's what I'm planning to do in near future :)
A monitor arm with a laptop holder. Maybe something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Stand-Keyboard-Tray-Adjustable/dp/B07DWM9WNM
Try this stand to clean things up a bit.

Might be one to save towards, but a monitor + laptop arm/stand like this one (but there are lots of options) would be quite neat and tidy.

That would be the HUANUO Laptop Monitor Mount Stand with Keyboard Tray. It has both clamp and grommet mounts; I ended up using the grommet mount.
I've got this and it works great (It's also on sale at the moment!): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DWM9WNM
For some nice pics of it in use, check our oliur's blog post https://oliur.com/m1-macbook-pro-workspace-setup/
Buy a monitor stand with arms that can have different heights like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HUANUO-Monitor-Adjustable-Notebook-Mounting/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=sr\_1\_3?dchild=1&keywords=monitor+laptop+stand&qid=1622798625&sr=8-3
It’s right here
I used this
If I were you, I’d get one of these. I use it in my setup and it works fantastically

There's a very similar product on Amazon (I purchased the same one last year lol) here. I think the main difference is the clamping base. The one that I purchased I ended up not using in the long term, as the laptop stand wobbles a little and sits at a noticeable tilt.

It’s an MSI 24” Curved Gaming Monitor. It’s 144hz and super crisp. I got it for under $150 at Microcenter awhile back. The arm is off of Amazon. It’s only $33 normally $60 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Lol whoa whoa. I’m just talking about something like this
hmmm it depends on your budget and what you need. essentiality on laptop desks are optional since you can play wherever you want. unless you'd prefer a good/better workspace. for sure cooling pad is essential but i think the raider does a decent job. an extended mousepad but these things are dependable on an users taste/preference. this company makes protective covers for keyboards. but you'd have to read reviews. i own two for a helios 300 and nitro 5 and their alright (low expectations). i'd use an external monitor and mount both. i use a different arm mount. but this would look nice on your table if you're willing to make a hole on it. it also looks too nice to do that. i personally wouldnt do it. again it depends on the user and play style. alternatively a laptop stand would also be nice and saves some space.
if we're talking peripherals. i'd get a nice extended mouse pad & something like this (headset stand+ mouse bungee) unless you're planning on a wireless mouse. it would be useless but nice enough for your headset and table. since i see you're a redragon user their new 60% is one of the best in the budget space. kumara are tkl but cheaper and has decent reviews and they also offer a keyboard and mouse combo.

i dont know sorry im not much of use lol

The monitor is a 27' 1440p Dell UltraSharp, specifically U2721DE: https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/dell-ultrasharp-27-usb-c-hub-monitor-u2721de/apd/210-awkh It's kind of special in that it has a built in docking station, so you plug one USB-C cable from the monitor to your laptop and it charges it, extends the display, and gives it wired gigabit ethernet. I chose it specifically because I hate dealing with docks, and I swap between a MacBook Pro and a Dell business laptop for work.
The monitor arm is a generic monitor + laptop clamp mount from Amazon. It's sold by a few different brands: VIVO, HUANUO, WALI, etc. But as far as I can tell all these companies work with the same OEM and just rebrand/resell their product, because I've bought it from two of these brands and the pieces are the exact same except the logo. I'll vouch for HUANUO's though because it's unbranded... https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Stand-Keyboard-Tray-Adjustable/dp/B07DWM9WNM/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=monitor+and+laptop+arm&qid=1603200957&sr=8-6 https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Adjustable-Computer-Monitor-STAND-V002C/dp/B00FOTABWY/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=monitor+and+laptop+arm&qid=1603201278&sr=8-11

Hi thank you!! Its from Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DWM9WNM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Sorry guys! It's this one from Amazon. Full disclosure, it's rated for up to 22 lbs (my monitor is 19.8 lbs) and while the pole itself holds it just fine, the arm that extends from behind the pole did bend initially under the weight of the monitor. That being said, it's holding it just fine, even with the additional (light) weight of a light strip mounted on it, and it shakes less than with the base it came with. But just wanna be clear that this is a $60 arm (edit: I see the price went up $20, there's a similar model from Wali on Amazon available for like $50 but it has a log on it that I just can't with), it's no ergotron, and if it fails I'm just gonna accept that I need to spend like $200 lol. Anyway sorry again hope this helps yall https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DWM9WNM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
