Haven't tried the premium cables, but its the connectors on these monoprice cables that are the problem (the cable inbetween is great): [link]
I had this happen to me too but I bought this charging cable and no longer have any issues
Check out this tread on the Galaxy S6 subreddit for both a discussion on the topic as well as a link to an excellent choice for USB cables. The cables can be purchased through Amazon as well as the Monoprice website, but if you go that route be sure to buy them direct from Amazon or you run the risk of getting low-quality counterfeits.
Whatever you buy, the cable needs to use 24 AWG or heavier wire for the charging connections or else quick charging won't work to its full potential.
I've used Monoprice:
And these generic ones:
...all of them dead within a few months. Either the wire has to be bent at exactly the right angle to charge or the prong no longer stays in the port and gets loose. I have a braided, LED cable that has held up better than the rest. I think I'm gonna stick to braided and/or flat cables in the future.
I buy these Monoprice 28/24AWG Micro B cables from Amazon. They markedly better than regular cables that you normally get.
Wanted to let everyone know that the problem was solved by buying a better capable micro USB cable than the one used for a Kindle. [link]
This seems to fit the bill nicely. Monoprice 6-Feet USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable with Ferrite Core (Gold Plated) (105458) [link]
