> The destruction of the black family unit due to the war on drugs didn’t exist?
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but please tell me where you got this idea from. My first understanding of the War on Drugs came from reading an LA gangbanger's autobiorgraphy. In it he describes in detail how the gangs found out that by selling crack, they could finance guns to take over rival gang territory and make more money. He also describes the destruction of the black neighborhoods that his greed brought on.
So back to my question. Where do so many average redditors get the idea that the crack epidemic was some government plot to arrest random black fathers who were only trying to put bread on the table?
My first impression on the war on drugs came from reading the autobiography of an LA crip who was purchasing illegal firearms in bulk and financing it with drug money, destroying neighborhoods in the process. I've since read that many reactionary groups in the 60s and 70s did the same.
Your impression of the war on drugs comes from an out of context quote from a left wing source and the belief that laws disproportionally affecting the race that breaks the law more often means something is racist.
Do you see where the disconnect comes from? First hand account form the target of the war on drugs, out of context quote. I don't know, tough one.
As I stated, take it up with Sanyika Shakur AKA Monster Kody Scott....an early member of the Crips and undisputed historian of street culture who has spent half of his life in prison. I said nothing differently than he said.
Same as punk fashion and grunge fashion...the beginnings were in poor people culture and available clothes.
he is not a gangsta of any kind. he was a manufactured OG, sooooo, not an OG at all. THIS is an OG.
