I'd get one of these:
I'm on my second. First one got stolen. I'd buy a third in heartbeat if necessary.
Great camp knife, and it comes with a great sheath, nice sticky handle, and a fire steel.
I really like my mora with the fire steel on the sheath. Amazon shows its for $65 now, but I think it's cheaper at times. Mine was a gift for Christmas that a buddy got me and I think it was on a great sale. Super sharp, thick enough blade for prepping fire wood and shaving kindling.
I ended up getting a tek-lok from blade tech to attach the knife to my belt more securely.
Of course the $15 moras are a super great deal too. Heck, get a thicker one for your fire wood needs and a smaller one for your carving desires.

The only concern for cost is if it's over $150, though I am almost considering grabbing a Mora like this one because I've seen so many great reviews of it. In fact, the Mora companion and bushcraft carbon are already in my amazon cart.
Morakniv bushcraft. Great blade, great friction fit sheath, nice tacky handle, plus it comes with a firesteel and sharpening stone built in to the sheath. I have dozens of knives--some waaaay more expensive--but this is my go to.
I have the Light My Fire in my car camping kitchen kit.
It's very similar to a Morakniv Companion but with the addition of the firesteel. You can get it in black if you want something unobtrusive; I prefer bright (green, orange) so it stands out if dropped, or just if it's buried in a pack. Bright colours also tend not to squick other campers out as much as black. (as dumb as that sounds/is)
The Massdrop price is ridiculously low. At $19, it's worth buying one for your kit and another to keep around for a gift for some future friend's birthday.
One thing: the Morakniv Bushcraft has a 50% thicker blade and much better suited to tasks like batoning.
Honestly I'd prefer to get both a hatchet and a saw. Do you have any specific recommendations on hatchet brands and styles?
Also is this the knife you have?
Thanks!
I would look at a multitool that comes with a chain breaker, just to save space. I have a Pedro's multitool that works great. You'll want to add a minipump, and perhaps a kmc/sram quick link for chain repairs.
That body armor is probably a bit overkill unless you're doing shuttled downhill or crazy all mountain stuff; your pack will provide some decent spine protection, and my MULE has held up well over plenty of falls. I would also look at more biking specific knee/shin pads; the ones you listed will be miserable. And I didn't see a lid on that list. Or a first aid kit. Those are pretty important.
The only rope that's really worth carrying, imo, is 550 paracord. And you may want to consider a leatherman style tool with a knife. A good knife is always welcome. Unless your firestarter is part of survival knife (I <3 my Morakniv survival knife), then I would just bring a lighter, if you really see yourself needing fire. Much more convenient for melting rope ends or starting a fire.
And a phone. Worst case, every smart phone is a compass. Best case, it can call the helicopters and tell them where to come get you. (ok needing the helicopters may be worst case, but you get the idea)
The tools, the spares, and the first aid should come on every ride. The survival stuff is at your discretion.
It's more pricey but it's probably worth it... Morakniv Bushcraft Carbon Steel Survival Knife with Fire Starter and Sheath, 4.3-Inch, Black https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00BFI8TOA/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_A423WK3E5T1FV5XWJ9PX
This is the one I just ordered. I'm really happy with it.

Best value in my opinion
I think it is this Bushcraft Morakniv model or a very similar one.
Mora Bushcraft Black (survival version with a carbon blade, firestarter and a diamond sharpener built into the sheath) is on sale now on Amazon!
The regular version is also on sale (now costs the same as the Kansbol).
These are great outdoor knives, especially for this price (would make great budget gifts).
Check them out.

Or, you come get 2-3 of the Companion models at $15-$20 each.
I would recommend the morakniv bushcraft which is currently marked down to $50, or if you wanted to spend a little bit more you could get the garberg !
Edit: formatting on mobile is hard, I hope those links work
So then, combination knife-fire starter?
thanks!
whats difference between bushcraft black and the survival? looks like its the same knife but $12 more for the sheath with firestarter and sharperner. worth it?
$36 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BFI8TOA
vs
I agree in the Mora suggestion. Mora's are great knives for the money.

I have the LMF II, but am not a big fan of it. It's too big and the serrated blade near the handle bugs me.
My friend gave me the below Mora for Xmas and I'm really happy with it. The size is perfect, it's not super expensive, and it's sharp! I'm not a hardcore woodsman by any means, but it's held up to the abuse I've thrown at.
( I hope this copy of the Amazon link works. On mobile and have never done this before )
