Others have reported that you can turn the Pali into a wireless with this!!
Do we know if this is an issue on the VW side of things or if it is phone related? I'm using a wireless Android Auto dongle that is securely plugged into the USB port to eliminate the chance of bumping the cable and disconnecting. Works 99% of the time but every once in a while the screen goes black. Link to wireless Dongle
Of course! Because it's from Amazon I know exactly where I bought it and can open the app instead of trying to sift through random email receipts that may or may not give me a working link.

Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter - Instant Connection from Smartphone to Car Screen with Easy Setup - Direct Plug-in USB Adapter - Secure Gel Pad Included https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09PQ95GY4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_2SDFJ15MSFMJEP69BXP1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is the one I've been using for a few months now. Works perfectly like 95% of the time, only issues I have usually stem from me starting the car and then walking away with my phone out of its range. There is no perceptible lag compared to wired. The entire reason I got it is because AA was so finicky with the wired connection, it you breathed on the cable wrong it would disconnect which was infuriating. I tried multiple cables, and my wife had the same issue with her Pixel where as I have a Samsung.
Another benefit is even though the battery drains a little faster, you can now plug in your own (fast) charger which will charge much faster than the standard USB outlet anyway.
I just received the Motorola MA1, which appears to be similar. I have a similar situation where once in a while I have to unplug/plug the unit to get it to initialize properly, but overall, it's been a nice device and I much prefer the Bluetooth wireless connection over a physical cable
The one issue I have yet to spend time troubleshooting/resolving is when the Leaf headend unit connects to my spouse's phone before mine. At that stage, I haven't figured out how to "toggle" everything over to my phone instead.
I just kept an eye on the posting and eventually it showed as available.

Motorola released one at the beginning of this year that I use. Very reliable and haven't had any issues so far. Highly recommend if you're looking for a wireless solution.
Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Car Adapter - https://amazon.com/dp/B09PQ95GY4/
If nobody else has any better info on whether the head unit in your vehicle does have the hardware for this, then I'd suggest you look at the Motorola MA1 Android Auto Wireless adapter, it works with all Android devices which are capable of AA wireless.

This wouldn't require any changes to your car, just plug it into the existing usb, the same way you would have with your phone.
The single plugs into the car. Your phone connects to the device wirelessly. So no it doesn't charge.
There are plenty Android Auto versions, here is one, note even though it says Motorola, it is not the real Motorola. They bought name rights.

This is probably best answered in /r/CarAV.
One piece of advice if you intend to use Android Auto, don't be tempted by wireless when you can purchase this wireless adapter for $90. That's less than the usual price difference between wired and wireless models, and it's the only one I know of that's Google-certified.
I have a Pioneer DMH-2660NEX, but I won't say there aren't equally decent units out there.
I will say don't be tempted by wireless Android Auto for the simple reason you can purchase this wireless adapter for $90 and that's less than the usual price difference between wired and wireless models.

I can't help with CarPlay, but for AA the MA1 adapter works flawlessly.
Might want to try this. https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MA1-Wireless-Android-Adapter/dp/B09PQ95GY4
MA1 adapter or AAWireless adapter
I've used both, but was extremely disappointed with the AAWireless unit. Nothing but problems connecting. I bought the MA1 unit in March, and it has worked flawlessly.
The MA1 sells out quickly on Amazon, so keep checking. Don't waste your money buying from the scalpers. It's only $80 when it's in stock.

I use an MA1 wireless adapter with my Android phone, and it works flawlessly. I would think there's an equivalent for iPhones.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PQ95GY4?dplnkId=b7a1886e-2424-4347-a7a2-8fa9867ee424
It comes in and out of stock. Don't buy for more than it's worth as they generally restock for the $89 price!
I have the MA1 it works flawlessly, the only down side is that it's super hard to get a hold of.
This is correct, however, if you buy one of these you can get wireless Android Auto on your otherwise wired connection. Works fantastic on my 2018.

I watched a lot of reviews before I got mine, and I was concerned that not having a touchscreen was going to suck. I couldn't have been more wrong.
The commander control works sooo well with the Android Auto interface, and the widescreen is the perfect screen layout for it. The shortcut buttons work perfectly with it too. Zero need for a touchscreen.
I had a 7" touchscreen on my previous car, and somehow there would always be a bump in the road right when I went to touch a button, so I'd wind up hitting the wrong place. Plus you had to LOOK at the screen. With the knob, you quickly learn how many clicks and presses accomplish what you want to do.
No fingerprints to clean either! Sadly, you still have to deal with fingerprints, on all the piano black surfaces :'(
On the CX-50, they made the touchscreen functional with Apple Carplay. I don't own an iPhone, but I guess the carplay interface is more designed for a touchscreen interface?
tl;dr The non-touchscreen + Android Auto is a perfect match!
Somewhat related... I had wireless Android Auto on my previous car, so I bought the AA Wireless adapter for this car. After using it for 2 months, I was very disappointed with it. Half the time it wouldn't connect, or it would disconnect during a drive. A little over a week ago, I replaced it with the MA-1 adapter, and it has been 100% flawless. Not a single issue!
I have a 21 SX Prestige X-line with windows tinted that you can check out in the link below. My paint finish is holding up pretty good without any ceramic coat but it did come with the subpar Zurich shield that kia put on.
If you're looking into a quality ceramic coat, You might as well look at vinyl wraps as well. It wouldn't be much more and would provide some decent protection and give you a lot of choices.
Also Motorola makes a wireless android auto apple carplay adapter link below. It's out of stock many places everywhere so it's selling for over retail, but if you find the wired that annoying it might be worth it. I personally didn't buy one because I'd rather have my cell charge faster with the cord connection rather than the Qi charger that makes my phone super hot.

motorola ma1, but apparently its hard to find:

I looked and paid $89 on Amazon. The problem is availability. If you Google the MA1 and read recent articles it is an item in high demand and sells out the moment inventory becomes available. I kept a Target and an Amazon tab open and 3 or 4 times a day would refresh my screen and just got lucky after a week of doing that and caught it in stock at Amazon. Here are links.

Update: While it take a while to connect the Motorola MA1 works just fine for wireless Android Auto. Got mine from Amazon.

I recently saw that Motorola entered the game:
https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MA1-Wireless-Android-Adapter/dp/B09PQ95GY4
Also, there is a wireless dongle that you can plug into your USB port to make it wireless. Here is the link: Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto Adapter
I haven't really done anything to my Rav yet, and probably won't. But I did recently add the Motorola MA1 and god is it nice having wireless android auto.
