Condenser mic was considered, but since i'm not giving lectures in the same classroom every time, i wanted something more portable. I know most condenser mics are mounted and plus i just would prefer to not be holding it as i move around. As for the mask, that's just the school's rules as we're not operating in the same lecture hall every time. The PC just has a standard headphone aux input, and then a couple of USB's. Nothing fancy at all. Sounds like maybe the ones i was looking at with just the TRRS are maybe not as preferrable to ones that have USB connectors instead, right? this looks like it might do the job? https://www.amazon.com/Movo-Microphone-Compatible-Smartphones-Podcasting/dp/B086D439F8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1Q7TVB3NM0RI1&dchild=1&keywords=lavalier+microphone+usb&qid=1597154794&sprefix=lavalier%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-1-spons&ps...
I did check to make sure the mic volume was at 100 in Windows. Zoom doesn't have many options, but there is an option to "Show in-meeting option to enable "Original Sound" that disables all filtering and is intended for Music and Professional Audio. I'm not sure if my setup qualifies as professional audio and there doesn't seem to be a way to test it outside of an actual meeting.
I also received a cheap usb lavalier mic by Movo: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086D439F8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details. The usb adapter on that has an option labeled AGC which seems to do a good job boosting the volume. I would think that the M-Track Solo could at least match that.
I don't think so, if you use the built-in microphone. I use several different external microphones that solve this problem.
With the built-in mic, the sound that comes out of the speakers will be picked up by the microphone, and the internet delay between speech and speakers creates an echo.
You just have to stop the speaker sound from getting into the microphone. One way is to use a simple lapel mic that only picks up sources close by (i.e. your mouth but not the speakers). Another way is to use a directional mic, preferably with a kidney shaped profile. That "kidney" is turned towards you and the backside is turned towards your speakers.
Both alternatives can be fixed super cheap and is worth every penny imo:
