I highly recommend this specific study bible.

The pages are nice and thick, and the notes for study are excellent. Scott Hahn's commentary is really tough to beat. I bought the leather version, and there are 3 formats. This is the New Testament only. It is much more Catholic than the Oxford Catholic Study Bible 3rd Edition that I also own, but do not use.
Highlighters are also something to consider. This set does well, even on much thinner pages -- for example the The Great Adventure Bible from Ascension (the one Fr. Mike reads from).

The bible in the link above is also available as a pdf. This will let you read a little before you buy to see if you like Mitch and Scott's commentary.
Mr. Pen Gel no bleed highlighters work well for me.
I use Mr. Pens Bible highlighters, they don’t bleed and work great.

I use these and they are great.
I use gel highlighters. Smooth as butter and zero bleed through, even on super thin paper. These are the ones I use: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0793DYRKV
They're also known as gel crayons and after getting those, my wife made me get these for her to color with: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07QW63WN4
Same things, but with non-neon colors.
