Is that paper the same as the Muji notebooks sold on Amazon?
You shouldn't touch a nib if it is working well.
Definitely try other papers. It needn't be Tomoe River. You can try some of the Made In Vietnam papers which supposedly are good for fountain pens, or ClaireFontaine, Rhodia, Kokuyo Campus, Oxford, Midori, etc.
The notebook I’m using has recycled paper so there’s feathering to it. 😅 I only use this because this is my designated work notebook and the only pen accessible at the moment is the Safari. Gel pens or pencils are great for this though! Here’s the link:

Would you reccommend these over the spiral plantation one :
https://www.amazon.com/MUJI-Notebook-6mm-Rule-30sheets/dp/B00I6XY068
I don't see any benefit or negative to spiral v non spiral. So maybe you could tell me which would be better in your opinion?
I really like this paper. It is much cheaper than the popular paper like Rhodia and it comes in a perfect size to me. B5 has about the same writing space as a typical 8.5 x 11 notebook minus the margins.
Not perfect, there's still a hint of feathering with my broader pens but it is a good paper for shading, sheen, and glitter.
They're small, at 30 sheets but they're real good for writing on both sides, and the price is really good now. The paper brings out some very nice qualities in my ink. Stormy Grey is glittery, Emerald of Chivor is sheeny (I forgot to shake), Habanero is shading.
These are the ones I've been ordering from Amazon.
As a left-hander you will probably love the Muji notebooks. (Amazon. Don't do the Recycled paper notebooks, though. 5 notebooks x 30 sheets each = 150 sheets = 300 pages. That's not bad for $9.19.) It's a "dry" paper, absorbent. If you write a hash mark, #, and immediately smear it with a finger, there will be minimal, if any, smearing. So, figure the ink will dry in less than 2 seconds, probably in under 1 second with dry inks. Really broad nibs with wet inks will probably feather. If an looks bad - try another ink and perhaps a finer nib (if you're using a <B> or a wet <M>.)
Maruman Mnemosyne, ClaireFontaine My Essentials* journal/notebook and Rhodia ColoR Premium pads are dry, absorbent, papers, too.
I wouldn't consider the HP Premium 32# Colour LaserJet paper a dry paper, just the opposite, because it is a super-coated paper ink will stay on the surface longer, so it will take relatively longer to dry and will smear a lot easier.
A dry paper to me are Muji notebooks, Maruman Mnemosyne, ClaireFontaine My Essentials* journals, Rhodia coloR Premium pads, and Quo Vadis Habana, a ClaireFontaine paper. Maruman Mnemosyne papers do not induce nib drag but they do better control the nib. IMO, it's a paper for executives, for those who want their writing to look it's best.
If you make a hash mark, #, and immediately smear it with a finger, the shorter the smear the drier the paper. I mention this in the hope that everyone will now try their papers and report back their findings.
You may want to get into Fountain Pen papers: FP friendly note pads, notebooks and journals. In pads I prefer top wound steel as top stapled pads may be better for just writing on the face page, or may need to be ripped along the perforations to allow writing on the back page. For school many like side wire wound notebooks. You could go with inexpensive Muji notebooks if money is tight. WalMart, Target, CVS, et. ak. carry Made in Vietnam notebooks and Journals that are fountain pen friendly, too. But, for now, Rhodia and Leuchtturm may be your best bets.
It's endearing, entirely understandable (we've all been there), that you're so enthused with fountain pen writing but before delving deeper into the pool it may be better if you use the pen more and more, and you'll know when you've out grown it and are ready for something better. Platinum also makes the $5 Preppy, $10 Prefounte, $20 Plaisir, $30 Balance, $60 Procyon and $180 Century #3776. Or you can go with another manufacturer. It depends on your budget and needs.

Muji notebooks are reasonably priced. Amazon item B00I6XY068, B5 (yea!), 6mm ruled, cream paper, 30 sheets/60 pages, $10 for 5 books. [B5 is wider than A5]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwlH_MP74Q8 I just wish that Doodlebud had done smear tests. It would have been eye opening. ;-)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA1Iiq1SX-s Personally, I wouldn't do anything but the aforementioned Amazon Muji notebooks.
Muji notebooks and ClaireFontaine My Essentials* notebooks are dry papers. There's a less chance of smearing. Smear tests will probably be less than 1/4". Maruman Mnemosine papers are in the same category but it's more of a paper that Executives will use because the nib tends to be better controlled, kind of a push-pull effect, not exactly a draggy paper that tends to slow down a nib.
Are you a left handed writer?

How much are you looking to spend per notebook and how long do you want them to last?
I have had a lot of good luck with these they are a bit inconsistent with pens, so I recently switched to Rhodia and Clairefontaine with a slightly more cost per notebook. But overall, they're good notebooks.
Check out this map see if a store is located near you and at the very least they should have notebooks are works well with fountain pens. Despite the margin size and line spacing being a bit too big I'm happy with my switch to Clairefontaine.
