It sounds like the Starz series 'Outlander', but with welcomingly with much less gushy romance.
Do you know of any specific locations in New York State where these mounds are located? I know of an author in the Hudson Valley who travels throughout the NY/NJ/PA border areas to scout stone cellar and alignment sites:
