NATIKA Backup Camera, AMZN, $40
I have this and it's been great. Looks oem and I had a plastic trim piece by the license plate I was able to remove so I didn't even have to drill. Looks great for what it is, gets the job done. It's full metal and IP69K water resistant, so it's really well built. Not super HD or anything, but never had trouble with the image, day or night.
Highly recommend this one. Was skeptical of its quality, it being a Chinese $30 alternative, but the quality is surprisingly good. Better than the CMOS-230 in my opinion. Low light quality is superb as well.

Funny you mention that, I did have one from Amazon and I wired it up late last night and it looks worse. Not by much to be fair. So it looks like it's just a matter of managing my expectations after all, as this is as good as it gets with an analog signal. I can live with it. It's the multi views that I wanted the most, and ended up moving the rear from the license plate location to the tailgate handle location for those to work as expected. Overall happy with the purchase.

I bought an adapter for the controls. I didn't realize the head unit had support for it until after the installation.
BTW, I updated the design a tiny bit and uploaded it. I rounded the sharp point on the clip to give it more clearance. I think thingiverse needs to review the change so it's not currently available. It may show up later today or tomorrow.
Had a rydeen duo, total shit lasted maybe 3 years.
I have this Amazon one now and really liked it so much I bought one for my other car:
I installed a Sony XAV-AX1000 unit in my '13. Not only did it provide a huge audio-quality upgrade from the factory head unit, it also resolved the chronic problems I'd have with the OEM hands-free mic. I hooked up a Natika camera for the backup view functionality, and the quality of the picture it produced beats the one from the factory camera on my '21.
Initially, I had lots of problems with the Apple Carplay repeatedly disconnecting (even with Apple original Lightning cables), but this ended up being resolved by switching to an Anker premium quality cable.
Natika it’s basically an oem+ design for all cars, it’s not bmw specific.

Good point. I don't think that will be the case with the camera I'm installing.

You can install one in our cars for $40 if you know how to install it yourself. Not difficult and a worthwhile upgrade imo.
I got my HU from ebay but don't ask me for the seller. They shut down. At the time it was the PX4? It was a quad core. Beware of some sellers advertising as Android 6.0 or whatever latest they have implemented in their programing. Mine was advertised as having Android 6. Big lie. It was running Android 4.1 via an app that detects the true OS.
I got the camera from Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/NATIKA-Backup-Camera-Waterproof-Reverse/dp/B07H852D49/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=backup+camera&qid=1633050457&sr=8-4.
Yes, I'm talking about the mic that is built into the unit. It's crappy. I think the Ram folks mod the mic with a thicker cable and grounded the mic wire to the headunit's chassis for better noise rejection.
What accessories are you referring to?
I used a Sony XAV-AX8000 and a Metra dash kit. Looked something like this... picture. I use it for Android Auto, but is Apple compatible as well. Cabled version only. I ran the cable down from behind the radio, pass the shifter and up into the center console. Ran a reverse camera (believe it was this one) as well so I can actually see to back up at night through my tint, lol. Thought about going ahead and getting the steering wheel controls functional again, but haven't bothered. My cruise control hasn't worked for over two years and to be honest, I barely used the wheel buttons before anyway.

I plan to remove the blue screen that is now useless and custom fab a gauge pod for A/F and Boost gauge sometime soonish.
Thanks! I got really excited when I realized I could have the bolt from the camera hold the bracket shut. The camera is this one: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07H852D49/ I've had 3 others on this car for over a year and they've been great.
I purchased this one off of amazon! NATIKA Backup/Front View... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H852D49?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Any cheap backup camera from Amazon. Resolution doesn't matter since it's going through an analog composite cable anyway. This is the one I'm using.

Lots of mid size SUVs 2010+ seem fine enough and most have EPA highway mpg of 24+. Just look them over really well with a mechanically inclined friend, and ask seller if you can take it to a shop for a PPI. If it's a dealership you probably won't have that option.
I really wouldn't worry too much about having a backup camera factory installed.

Can get even cheaper for the camera alone. You would need a head unit with the RCA/AV input to connect the camera.

It's not all you need but it's not horribly difficult imo to install this stuff yourself. Watch some youtube vids.
What camera do you use for the rear? I also have a Kenwood, was looking at this one.
