Some people have a good eye at the beginning but everyone gotta start from somewhere. You learn little by little. If you want a boost there are some text books for photography that goes through composition, both general and detailed for specific fields. On the top of my head I can recommend National Geographic's Complete Photography. Another tip is to take inspiration and ideas from other's photos (but don't compare yourself with them).
There are a lot of different fields and styles for photography, so there certainly are things you can do with a homebody lifestyle. Personally I find it relaxing to take wildlife macro photos. All you need is a patch of wild grass (or similar) and a close-up lens.
I'd say as long as you enjoy photography, go for it! I don't know what camera and lens you have access to but learn how to use it. The greatest learning curve comes when you have to work around limitations in equipment.
I gave my niece an excellent National Geographic book about fundamentals of photography for Xmas

If I had to recommend one book only this would be an excellent choice
