I am so sorry to hear how much it is causing you pain and impacting you life! In your situation I would definitely push to try medication and advocate for yourself! Here is the one I bought if you aren’t in Canada you can try searching up cold therapy socks online or on your amazon NatraCure Cold Therapy Socks - Reusable Gel Ice Frozen Slippers for Feet, Heels, Swelling, Edema, Arch, Chemotherapy, Arthritis, Neuropathy, Plantar Fasciitis, Post Partum Foot, Size: Small/Medium https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B003L4WOKG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_QXRXC89S39WAG0XYZDNS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I highly recommend getting some cold therapy socks. My wife used these throughout her pregnancy and she swore by them.

I love thick, fuzzy socks. The crazier the better, cause, gotta laugh sometimes, right?
When they are hot and/or swollen, I have these slippers that are basically ice packs in the shape of a sock and I LOVE them (example here).
I also find very comfortable, breathable shoes very important.
NatraCure Cold Therapy Socks -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003L4WOKG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I am 37 weeks and am incredibly swollen as well. I ordered these socks that have freezer packs in them a few weeks ago and love them! Sometimes I even put my hands in them instead of my feet because my hands are also very swollen.
Our basement is concrete floors and my feet hurt more when I spend time down there. Someone here recommended these socks and omg they’re amazing NatraCure Cold Therapy Socks - Reusable Gel Ice Frozen Slippers for Feet, Heels, Swelling, Edema, Arch, Chemotherapy, Arthritis, Neuropathy, Plantar Fasciitis, Post Partum Foot, - Size: Small/Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003L4WOKG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_88K1YQWWXZGAXGKQ12SH
Absolutely! I’ve been using these slippers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003L4WOKG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3Q652GNVPA8DPZ9H5P2N For some reason, I can’t find the cryotherapy gloves I used, but searching “cryotherapy mittens” on amazon will yield lots of results, and I’ll add the link to mine if I can find them! I wear them during my docetaxel and carboplatin infusions, and bring spare gel packs in a cooler so I can trade them out when the ones I’m using start to warm up. So far, I don’t have any neuropathy after three infusions. I take short breaks when my hands or feet seem to be getting too cold/ feeling very clumsy, but do my best not to let them come back to a normal temperature. So far, so good. I hope your mom’s treatment goes as well as possible!!
i usd to wear these (u cant wear them while walking around) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003L4WOKG to freeze up my feet, i liked using them but cant remember exactly why. it changed the sensation, may be worth a try.
magnesium once before bed helped a little, at least to relax muscles etc i feel like it helped with numbness too https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CPJEGMW
i also used to buy magensium skin cream on amazon - the ones i got are no longer availableut just type inmagnesium cream
and i used to have compression socks, also from amazon
they helped ease numbness a bit but nothing cured it - i spontaneously got feeling back in one foot after 4 years but it was constant annoyance - not pain like youre describing. but it stopped m from wanting to go out, walk etc.
i went to some doc years ago who gave me gapapentin to help wih nmbness but i took one and felt so loopy and out of it i said nope. some people say lyrica helps.
i wish i had better soltuions for you. it is really a daily torture of sorts but it MAY get better over time. keeping my fingers crossed for remyelination drugs.
The salonpas patches are good too, but I put them on before I sleep and take them off before heading off to work.
Likes:
- Weirdly specific for dancers, but I've been having foot pain and leveled up my foot care. During dance class I wear Apollo performance compression socks and after class I stick my feet in these ice booties. Makes such a difference, and applicable to runners too!
- Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 primer. I picked this up as a heat protectant spray prior to diffusing, but it makes my hair sooo shiny and smells nice. I do have to step into the shower when I apply it or my floors get slippery.
- Clarins Golden Glow Booster. I mix 4-5 drops into my moisturizer on non-tretinoin nights and the glow is lovely. Careful with your hairline though!
Dislikes:
- I ordered some Sephora brand makeup that happened to be on sale, and hated each and every piece. The cream to power eyeshadows creased almost immediately, the eyeliner smudged, the eyeshadow pod had giant chunks of glitter. Charlotte Tillbury flawless filter was also a big fail on my textured skin.
Recommendation request:
- Mineral sunscreen for oily skin. My current sunscreen only goes up to SPF30.
- Topical product for bacne. Need to get mine under control for summer. Contemplating going low tech with the OG red Stridex.

Sorry that you are going through this! It is peripheral neuropathy. I have had 10 of 12 weekly Taxol/Carboplatin treatments so far and have iced my hands and feet for the duration of the infusions. Only this past 2 days have I felt some tingling in the fingers of my left hand. It has gone away after using a stress ball to work my fingers on that side. I have had minimal darkening of some of my nails near the cuticle but no sensitivity or lifting. I can't say if the icing works for sure, but it is little enough to do if it really minimizes these upsetting side effects, especially if they may become longer term or permanent.
Here are two links to articles on icing for nails, and peripheral neuropathy side effects of TC treatment:
https://www.breastcancer.org/research-news/cryotherapy-may-prevent-taxol-neuropathy
and here's a link to the icing socks I got from Amazon. I got 2 pairs and used the socks for my hands as well as feet. Better than the equivalent gloves, I found! Put them in the freezer overnight before my treatment day. They start off too cold so I just rest my hands and feet on them, but after half hour they are okay to put my hands and feet inside them. They last the whole 2 hours that my infusion takes and are still cold at the end.

Ziploc bags of ice would also work but the ice will melt and need to be replaced during a 2 hour infusion I think. Or you could try small frozen gel packs between 2 pairs of socks or hold them in gloved hands. Anyway, I hope the information is helpful and that you get some relief. My own oncologist is skeptical about the icing, but I do it anyway. Best wishes for successful treatment!
