I’ve always read they don’t like citrus smells. I dilute it a lot and then mist it. But yes, be careful with essential oils in general.
But this Bitter Yuck is great. I use it on furniture I don’t want them to mess with too and so far I haven’t had any problems. My vet recommended it forever ago!

Bitter Yuck is really effective. It’s sometimes too effective, in the sense that once you spray it on the plant, it’s there for a very, very long time. I’ve had that stuff still on a plant years after initially spraying it. So you have to be careful touching the plant yourself, because if you then go to eat something with your hands, you will taste it and it’s awful!
But I’ve used it with cats, especially when I was fostering a lot of cats, a lot of them curious kittens.
Doesn't that hurt when you do, well, anything?
This might help, it's for dogs but its safe, just spray a bit on your hands and you'll stop putting them in your mouth (I have this for my dogs and sometimes it gets on my hand and its disgusting)
I'm sure its not poisonous, they are for human babies. A few flecks wouldn't hurt, though I wouldn't let mine steady consume it. He might just eventually get bored of chewing on them. You could spray them with a dog / cat stop chew spray like this.

Of course I wouldn't know how well the brand works, but it seems that this kind has essentially the same ingredients: https://www.amazon.ca/NaturVet-Bitter-Yuck-Spray-Liquid/dp/B000EI1BRO/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=no+chew+spray&qid=1640004125&sr=8-6
You could probably try that (maybe from a different seller, seems a bit expensive there), and see if that deters your furry friend :)
I concur. This reads like a weird power trip on the boyfriend's part and is really disturbing. I hope she considers this because I don't see this getting better.
But if OP wants to continue this relationship, she can try putting this on a decoy brush head https://www.amazon.com/NaturVet-Bitter-Chewing-Furniture-Formula/dp/B000EI1BRO/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=AK26PXV2HJC8&dchild=1&keywords=dog+no+chew+spray+for+furniture&qid=1632873858&sprefix=dog+no+che%2Caps%2C238&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExMlBEUUpUQTlGNUxHJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTkyNDM4NVJETFY1QUFRWklNJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0MDY0NTg5TldGWE5VM1RYNEUmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl
Have you tried bitter spray?
