Nekteck one should work great. Full 45W, USB IF certified. https://www.amazon.com/Nekteck-Certified-Charger-Delivery-Included/dp/B075WQQG7C?crid=2X30VCJNVBTXG&keywords=nekteck+usb+car+charger&qid=1665993948&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjMxIiwicXNhIjoiMC41NyIsInFzcCI6IjAuMzUifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=nekteck+usb...
FYI, an inverter is one option, but a USB power delivery car adapter with support for the correct voltage and wattage as labeled on the AC adapter that T-Mobile ships with the gateway (I don't remember off the top of my head if it is 9V or 12V) should also work.
I bought this one in order to charge my laptop and other USB-compatible devices during power outages (I have a big jump starter with a 12V outlet). I keep forgetting to test it with my gateway, but it worked great with the laptop.
> portable charger that I can use to charge my laptop and as extra battery
I'll be interested to see what is recommended for this.
I can add I bought this unit for my car, which seems to work ok:
Type C Car Charger, Nekteck USB Car Charger with 45W Power Delivery and 12W USB A Port Compatible with iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Galaxy, Google Pixel, 3.3ft USB C Cable Included, NOT Ideal for Note10+PPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_CP6P6B41C6SCVBG4TDSP
Harry_danger,
The only 3rd-party cigarette lighter models specific for the Surface are off-brand knock-offs of dubious quality. For safety and reliability of the ProX I would recommend you continue using the inverter.
The only alternative I would look into is a USB-C power-delivery charger from a brand that makes USB-IF certified products. Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/Nekteck-Certified-Charger-Delivery-Included/dp/B075WQQG7C
While this particular product isn't USB-IF certified (no car chargers are) all of Nectek's other chargers are certified. They are the manufacturer for some other popular brands. There are more powerful chargers out there, but any beyond 30-45W get terribly int eh cigarette lighter form-factor.
Regarding charge time, the limiting factor will be the cigarette lighter adapter that you use. My adapter is a few years old and when I updated my phone to a new Pixel (and on my friend's new iPhone) I realized it was taking a long time to charge. That's because the old adapter (and likely any direct USB plugs in your car) don't have the circuitry for fast charging, Quick charge, etc.
I just ordered a new 45W adapter that should fix that. Hasn’t arrived yet, so can’t be sure, but it’s much more wattage than my previous, and supports all the new charging modes.
USB-C charging cable with the USB-C . Would also recommend the car charger port adapter. Full iPhone charge in 1 hour car charger
Nekteck USB-IF Certified USB Type C Car Charger with PD Power Delivery 45W & USB-A 12W for MacBook 12-inch/Pro 2016, Pixel 3 2/XL Galaxy S9/ S9+/ Note 8/ S8/ S8+ More(USB-C Cable 3.3Ft Included) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Z1zxCbF76RSK8
I use the above car charger to charge my T480S and it works great. Charges while in use or in standby. I know that’s not a power bank, but it’s not made by Lenovo so I figured I’d comment. Sorry if it’s not relevant.
Which exact models of chargers have you tried? I may have the Nekteck you mention, it's this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WQQG7C/
Since my previous post I've got the Pixel Stand, and I can confirm that it works with any PD charger that supports the 9V power profile.
The stand can't take 45w either, where are you seeing that? It takes about 12-13W from the wall when charging at 10W.
I bought this over a month ago. It shows 'charging rapidly' every time. Works great.
Nekteck USB-IF Certified USB Type C Car Charger with PD Power Delivery 45W & USB-A 12W for Macbook 12-inch/ Pro 2016, Pixel 2/ Pixel XL Galaxy S9/ S9+/ Note 8/ S8/ S8+ More(USB-C Cable 3.3Ft Included) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ElC4AbBYXW2AX
The way it charges is odd. There's no reliable way to see the actual wattage/amp via apps like ampere, because something involving the screen being on.
And apparently the way pixel 2s charge, they sort of "ramp up" slower at first, then faster or something.
I did alot od research for a proper car charger that supports this new "power delivery" standard via type C.
Nekteck USB-IF Certified USB Type C Car Charger with PD Power Delivery 45W & USB-A 12W for Macbook 12-inch/ Pro 2016, Pixel 2/ Pixel XL Galaxy S9/ S9+/ Note 8/ S8/ S8+ More(USB-C Cable 3.3Ft Included) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
And it came with a cable to boot.
I have the Nekteck car charger referenced below (with the fixed/attached USB C cable and the USB A port), the Belkin car charger (the one currently sold by Google) and the even newer Nekteck car charger (with a detached USB IF Certified USB C cable and a USB A port). I really like the Nekteck with the detached USB C cable so far (versus the Nekteck with the attached). I tend to think that most fixed cables bend and break at some point and prefer to use my own, braided cable instead. I will continue using the certified cable that came with the newer Nekteck car charger until (and if it ever) breaks. I can confirm that both Nektecks charge my Panda quickly and without issues. All three chargers (both Nekteck and Belkin) work well, but I prefer this Nekteck one the best so far:

I've been on the same hunt myself and have been surprised that there are so few good options if you want to maximize rapid charging capabilities. For rapid charging, the charger needs to support Power Delivery (PD). Very few do, especially on Amazon. Even among the ones that do, some are sketchy and don't conform to the standards (risk damage to your phone). If you want to do it right, search out one that is USB-IF certified. The one you mentioned by Nekteck is (one of very few). I would recommend it, or this version with detachable cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_je2hAb8M484BE
If your laptop is usb-c powered, you're probably better off staying in DC the whole time with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C/
...instead of going from DC to AC to DC again
I have this $22 black Nekteck car charger from Amazon that has both PD & USB-C and A charging ports. It comes with a 3.3 ft USB-C charging cable, but if you want a less expensive one they have a black $16 car charger with a USB-C charger already attached.
As for the case, I have the $35 Spigen Tough Armor (Gunmetal version) because I know that I'll get random butterfinger moments & want to make sure my phone doesn't get blown to bits when it drops. If you don't need a bulky case but want good protection, then their $30 Slim Armor should work well for you. Their 25% off sale ends today, but Google Express has the Slim Armor for $25 & free shipping.
This one claims to have 45w PD on the USB-C port.
I own both of these and both work well. Any Power Delivery 45w+ car charger should work.

Would a 12V cigarette-style adapter work?
These sorts of things have been available for some years, and they're for automotive situations:

I bought this $26 Amazon car adapter one, which does charge my FW. I haven't had to use it much yet. Just wanted to share.
It seems that your comment contains 1 or more links that are hard to tap for mobile users. I will extend those so they're easier for our sausage fingers to click!
Here is link number 1 - Previous text "one"

I tested this Amazon one and it does charge my FW laptop in the car. It's still very early and I'll update later.
https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/91zzju/does_a_t480_need_45_w_charger/
from what I'm reading in this old thread and some of the linked stuff, the T480 needs a 45W charger to use while running, but will charge on lower powered chargers when off. (mentioned is a Pixel 2 charger, which I suppose is at max 10-15W as that's the phones max charge speed)
I don't know how this translates to voltage; but 45W needs at least 15V 3A (but 20V 2.25A is more likely what the T480 asks for), so your car chargers with 12V output max will, at best, slowly charge the T480 while it's off.
But: There are 12V car chargers with circuitry to boost the output up to 20V, and I guess you're best of with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C
i hope so i just purchased this;
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WQQG7C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and even though it is on the supported list of car adapters it does not work for the win 2. Im returning it to amazon in 2 hours.
I feel like your head unit might not be able to provide enough power. If your car has a cigarette lighter, you could always get something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3viJFb837VXZJ

This car charger fast charges my S20
The USB IF, they're the group that defines the USB PD specification. Here's a logo for devices that don't specify wattage: https://www.usb.org/sites/default/files/2018-07/USB-Certified Fast Charger-Logo_Color_No Wattage.jpg
Here are two chargers I have that both show the logo with wattage on them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C/ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0712252ZQ/
Any charger that wishes to use that logo and the phrase "USB Power Delivery Certified" have to be certified by the USB IF. The USB IF enforces that rule for products sold through major retailers but with any product directly from China there is no easy way for them to enforce that requirement.
IF there was a similar product from Ravpower, Anker, etc. then I would be much more comfortable buying this as it is likely a generic version of the product they sell. But as there is nothing else like it I am -very- skeptical that it is safe.
The only product that's close is Ravpower's 90W dual USB C charger: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083ZBXXN5/ and that is missing the USB A port and provides 30W less power. It's also only cable of dual 45W output, not the dual 60W output the Baseus charger claims to provide.
I found the Kickstarter page for this charger. There are dozens of people who haven't received this charger yet even though Baseus says most of them should have been sent. There are also issues with the alignment of the USB A port. Also the charger is cheaper on Aliexpress than it was ever offered for on their Kickstarter page, with over 1,000 units available. Something doesn't add up.
There are so many things that scream run away when I look at this charger. I admit that it's a compelling design, but there are too many issues that I can't overlook. If you're willing to overlook everything I've mentioned and take the risk then please do and prove me wrong. I would love to have a charger like this, but I've been through the growing pains of USB C PD with my Nexus 6P and am not willing to risk my T480 to use this charger.
Nekteck USB C Car Charger with 45W PD Power Delivery and 12W USB-A Port for Ipad pro, MacBook Pro/Air 2018, iPhone Xs/Max/XR/X/8, Galaxy S10/S9/S8, 3.3ft USB-C Cable Included https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WQQG7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_AvywDbVM3AGVZ
I currently use the Nekteck USB-IF certified car charger and cable (linked below) and it works great. It can charge the switch the fastest while playing it. The Nekteck outputs up to 45w and can even do 15v/3a output which means it could plug into the dock and the switch would recognize it and output to the HDMI (this requires 15v/2.6a). You should check the switchchargers site for more details about charging your switch.

Well since I never received a response I went out and bought one. This one works well it charges the laptop with no error messages and it also charges my pixel 2 it is IF usb C certified with PD specs, which was important to me. I ordered some longer cords that have full PD specs. These cords will handle up to 100watts so everything is working smoothly these USB c specs are confusing now I am labeling my cords since I have some lower wattage cords my phone uses. The Dell one is $100 geez incredibly over priced. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WQQG7C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Their wall charger also works great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0712252ZQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They probably took away the undisclosed feature on the OG Pixel (and I guess the 2, tho that one was capped at 10W), more about it on the more recent thread. It makes sense that they'd do this eventually since they were technically going against the USB PD spec's rules, tho in a very safe and useful way.
I'm glad I ordered a couple USB-C 18W+ car chargers to test, though I really really wish Google had made a first party one. The market for those still seems like a colossal mess, with downright dangerous/faulty options applenty, specially if you're looking for anything with more than one port.
Verizon of all people used to sell a decent one, with their branding... I'm trying out 2-3 different ones, got this Nekteck (also this) based on Nathan K's comments about it (tho he hasn't reviewed it) and the fact that it's USB-IF certified it, and this Scosche based on the fact that their dual port wall charger was well reviewed and their old Type A car chargers were some of the best.
Note that the smaller Necktek has a pretty slow Type A port and isn't much cheaper, but it's ideal for my own car because my second device is a BT streaming adapter that doesn't draw more than 5V/1A...
I bought the others for use in different cars and/or travel. Either Necktek would be good enough for laptops even, while the Scosche is better suited for charging two USB PD compatible phones simultaneously given the dual ports (only goes up to 18W but it's per port so that's more than enough for phones).
Seconded. I have the removable cable version and have been happy with it.
This Nekteck charger has a USB C port that supports USB Power Delivery for the Nexus/Pixel. The USB A port is just a standard 2.4A though.
If you need Quick Charge on the USB A port, then try this charger instead. Unfortunately, it doesn't have USB Power Delivery for the USB C port. It delivers 3A though.
Curious on how it compares to this and if it's just as "approved" since I want to use a longer cable that's also certified.
How would this fair compared to the one with the pre-attached wire?
