Get a new modem. Before the installation person came over I looked up the list of approved modems that had the speed I wanted and bought it off Amazon. I've never needed to reset it. Here's a link
Find an Arm-based modem that your ISP supports. Problem solved. For me on Suddenlink, I use this:
My sole purpose for using this modem was to avoid Intel chipsets due to their hardware flaws with lag spikes. This modem is solid and has never caused any issues for me.
This modem supports 24x8 channels and up to 980Mbps speed (even though Amazon only shows up to 400Mpbs).
I haven’t used this one before, but you could try this one. I just searched for top Xfinity routers on Amazon and saw that one. Netflix suggests about 25 Mbps for 4K (Amazon says 15) and 5 Mbps for HD streaming. Assuming you have one 4K and three HD, that would put you at approximately 40 Mbps to accommodate the concurrent streams. It’s up to you, but I haven’t heard anyone complain their internet is too fast. If budget is a concern, 60 Mbps should be sufficient.
Oh, and an edit to my previous post: here's a link for the same exact netgear product but $20 cheaper after a coupon. It's out of stock for a few days though.. but in my experience amazon often ships before they say they will.
You may have to click manually the (frustration free packaging) and then click the model on the bottom, 960mbps (24x8) to get the one with the coupon.
I ended up going with the Netgear CM600 (https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-download-960Mbps-Certified-CM600-1AZNAS/dp/B06XGZBCKP), which is based on the Broadcom BCM3384 chip. I would have gone with the CM700, but they switched to the Puma 6 at that point (it's probably fine, but after dealing with my last modem I don't want to chance it). Looking around, the CM600 seems pretty solid, so hopefully it works out!
Edit: Also, on a non-technical level, it has an on/off switch, which is sooo much more convenient than unplugging it if I need to reboot it :)
A while back u/Bunkei posted a thread in this forum that really helped me out when it comes to my online experience with SFV. With all the new players, I figure now is a good time to revive this information.
FIRST: If you're on WiFi, stop. Get a LAN cable. If you have WiFi you will always struggle with lag in SFV. There's no way around that.
That being said, there are a large number of modems in people's homes that contain a flawed chipset (the Intel Puma 6) that results in laggy online matches, especially in games like SFV. A list of these modems are in the second picture and can also be found here.
Since this is a hardware problem, firmware updates cannot fix it. The only solution to this is to purchase a new modem that does not have the Puma 6 chipset. I purchased the Netgear CM600 but any quality modem that does not use Puma 6 (again, list linked above) will work fine. Buying a new modem made a huge difference for my online gaming, and not only in SFV.
BEWARE: the CM700 is known to use Puma 6.
TEST: You can run a test to see if your modem likely contains the Puma 6 chipset here.

I hope this helps some people. See you online!
Potentially. For example we stream Netflix, twitch and Hulu pretty regularly as 2 people. Between that and downloading new games (Call of duty war zone was a 300+GB one time install) we're coming pretty close to the cap.
As far as other modems, they shouldn't be that expensive. I'm using this one from Netgear and it works flawlessly for <$100. You can also pick up quite a few wireless router options for <$100 as well, or pay a bit more to get a set of mesh routers that will offer great coverage if you have a larger home. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XGZBCKP/
Netgear Netgear CM600 No longer Available?...Yes Amazon is still selling this consumer grade junk.

I’m certainly no expert on this, but this modem and router have been working great since I got them.
NETGEAR CM600 (24x8) DOCSIS 3.0... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XGZBCKP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
ASUS Dual-Band Gigabit WiFi... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016EWKQAQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This is what i used with them for a few years.
I have Suddenlink too. I got a new modem and router a few months ago. Both have worked great.

I got my own cable modem 3 months ago and haven't had any issues. If it stops working then I'll buy a new one.

As for a modem, if you want to get modem that just supports to your max current subscribed speed then... Netgear CM600 which currently goes for $69 on Amazon.
NETGEAR Cable Modem CM600 - Compatible with all Cable Providers including Xfinity by Comcast, Spectrum, Cox | For Cable Plans Up to 400 Mbps | DOCSIS 3.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XGZBCKP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_lhTUEbE9XAN7R
However, if you modem that can support more bandwidth for later on up to a gigabit then Netgear CM1000 or CM1000v2 CM1000 for $169 on Amazon.
NETGEAR Cable Modem CM1000 - Compatible with all Cable Providers including Xfinity by Comcast, Spectrum, Cox | For Cable Plans Up to 1 Gigabit | DOCSIS 3.1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0781VN7W5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_hmTUEbJ3NBV06
I know these two modems are supported by spectrum. If you decide to get other models you need to verify that it’s supported by Spectrum and that it doesn’t have the intel puma chipset in it since it has problems.
As for wired router, hmmm that’s a little harder at this point for one that I completely trust without breaking to bank and that can handle your 400mbps bandwidth with either traffic shaping, or QOS, or Sqm turned on to manage traffic.
But before you considered buying a new wired router to go along with a used ruckus r710, which model of netgear do you actually have? netgear X6S is too vague since they had several models....it’ll say on the bottom like R7900P and if there is version number after it..If there is no version then it’s version 1... I want to find out if it’s still possible to use it as just a pure router and WiFi shut off with the possibility of 3rd party firmware installed before buying a new wired router. By all means order a used Ruckus R710 and get a new POE+ injector that 802.3at compliant.
I use the Netgear CM600
The spectrum modems aren’t horrible. They first gave me a Arris TM1602AP2 and I got expected speeds. But had the puma issue. In some markets they’re giving out this modem for even the 100Mbps tier
All spectrum modems are free, and if you want the WiFi its $5 with the 100Mbps plan and free with spectrum ultra.
I have 100 down / 10 up. I think I've settled on these two: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XGZBCKP/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1_1_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PDLRHFW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1_1_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 What do you think?
If you end up grabbing your own, I would recommend the Netgear CM600 or the TP-Link TC7650. The CM600 comes highly recommended by most people and Spectrum themselves - probably the best two commercially sold ones for the 400/20 tier and lower. Gigabit requires a Spectrum modem (DOCSIS 3.1) at the moment. I assume Spectrum will allow customer-owned DOCSIS 3.1 modems at some point next year.
