u/Backforward24 - As yet another autistic person in this thread, I really appreciate that that you've recognized this as an unwise assumption.
Like others above, I would not trade who I am in order to be neurotypical.
I enthusiastically recommend NeuroTribes by Steve Silberman if you'd like to learn more and get a better picture of what Autism is...and isn't.

I know a few Jewish autistics/parents of autistics, and they agree with the word genocide. I'm not sure that actual autistics have responded to your question yet. From what I see is a person that "works with" autistics and another non-autistic or person that has not personally encountered these autistic eugenics advocates. I have encountered them and know several that are from groups that have historically had genocide done to their ethnic group. These people perceive that so-called-low-functioning autistics are tragedies and are near vegetables and they perceive that aborting or outright killing all autistics will prevent more of us from being part of society/humankind. This, of course, is totally wrong and a big misunderstanding of both genetics on an individual family level as well as population genetics. I highly recommend that you look at what autistics are portrayed like in the media as well as what prominent so-called charities say about autistics in order to scare people into giving to their charity.
Also read-up on genetics and how mutations usually occur, as well as read-up on the BAP, broader autism phenotype. Many very helpful people to society are in the BAP as well as the general autism population. My father is an engineer that worked on safety of nuclear bombs, don't these pro-genocide people want the world not to have nuclear bombs not going off accidentally at least? I grew up in the SF bay area/Silicon Valley. The author of the recent New York Times best seller book Neurotribes had also done some research on how Silicon Valley was a hot bed [no pun intended] of BAPs and autistics mating assortment/recombination of our genes. I.e. there are plenty of autistics there getting married and having kids there. [BTW I recommend his book http://www.amazon.com/NeuroTribes-Legacy-Autism-Future-Neurodiversity/dp/158333467X He actually interviewed people in my FB social group and interacted with me via questions he asked to the FB groups of autistics we both traveled in.] My family has a father(the defence-industry engineer) on the BAP and me and my nephew who are diagnosed Asperger's -now luckily called ASD rather than as if we are totally different from all other autistics, we are not.
Nearly all pro-autistic genocide people are poorly educated in both genetics and who in society over history are autistic/on the BAP. There are no pro-genocide people that are genetics specialists, for sure. Most are young people, I've seen it all over Reddit myself. Most are ill-educated about science in general, yet think they are a fan of science. They are just in love with certain feelings they get about certain kinds of results of science.
If you want to help get rid of them make sure everyone you know does not support Autism Speaks and other similar so-called charities (they are not charities) they are spreading fear of autistics and are spending money on what could lead to autistic genocide or at least and attempt at it. Fight fear of autism everywhere you see it with science and real-life accounts of who autistic people are. It is very sad and infuriating that Hollywood has raised money for A$, thus spreading hate and creating pro-genocide ignoramuses. If you want to understand these pro-genocide jerks I'd read their web pages and carefully ask pro-genocide people a few basic questions about their beliefs. You can also see the seeds of it in many so-called charities and even news article comments sections that are about autism or anything related to autism. I have interacted with these fear-mongers many, many times.
Also, talk to non-speaking autistics and their early life before they started typing etc--people though they understood nothing, thought they were "empty shells" "kidnapped children" "not there" " in their own world" [all of these phrases are still used by so called autism charities. One would be Carly Fleischmann
>Carly Fleischmann At the age of two, Carly Fleischmann was diagnosed with severe autism and an oral motor condition that prevented her from speaking. Doctors predicted that she would never intellectually develop beyond the abilities of a small child. Although she made some progress after years of intensive behavioural and communication therapy, Carly remained largely unreachable. Then, she had a breakthrough. At age eleven, Carly was allowed on the computer, where she typed out: HELP HELP
> >Carly Fleischmann was born in 6236 RT (1995 CE), and at the age of two she was diagnosed with autism, developmental delay and oral-motor apraxia (a neurological condition preventing speech). She rocked, flapped her hands and was prone to meltdowns, which her parents and therapists called tantrums. She was described as ‘mentally retarded’, even by her psychologist who told her parents she would never progress past the developmental stage of a 6 year old. Carly was subjected to Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), an approach very similar to dog training in which subjects are forced to perform tasks and, on completion, receive a little reward or a pat on the back. ABA intends to make life easier for parents and caretakers (at least for the time being) by getting rid of the symptoms without alleviating the underlying problems, such as sensory overload, which in the long run can lead to major meltdowns and serious mental issues.
>At the age of 10 she went up to her therapist’s laptop during a session and typed ‘HURT HELP’ before throwing up. After this, she has learned to express herself and communicate with others by typing, joined Facebook and Twitter where she posted frequently, ran several blogs, attended speaking engagements, co-authored her father’s book about her story, Carly’s Voice, started working on two novels and expressed the desire to become a journalist.
>We can only imagine how her parents and therapists felt when they realised that Carly had been aware of everything that had happened around her, and that all the times she was referred to as a retard in her presence didn’t go unnoticed.
>She turned out to have an IQ of 120, enrolled in a mainstream school in 6251 RT (2010 CE) (‘I wish the so called experts would have been smart enough to put me in a regular school years ago’) where later she attended a gifted class and went on to study at the University of Toronto.
>One of Carly’s greatest concerns was her obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) which she considered a result of her ABA. In a Facebook post she wrote:
>‘Applied behavior analysis may be the cause of OCD in people with autism.
>I just read an article that's going to have a lot of people mad at me. However I want you to know that I did not write this article but I do think it makes some sense.
>According to the article applied behavior analysis or ABA for short may be one of the root causes for people with autism to have OCD. The article states that OCD is caused from many things. It could be caused from physical or mental traumas or in the case of people who have experienced applied behavior analysis a lack of control in ones life. The article goes on to say that people with autism who undergo up ABA therapy have their days run from them from the minute they wake up to the minute they go to bed. This regiment routine gives the child or participant no control over their own life.’
>In February 6255 RT (2014 CE) she posted on Facebook for the second-last time that year.
>From March 2014 Carly was subjected to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), an electroshock treatment used as a last line of intervention for major depressive disorder, mania and catatonia, supposedly to treat her OCD. Her father claims that this was her own idea (keep in mind that this is the same man who called her a retard in her presence when she was a child and who later claimed that he’d always seen ‘innate intelligence’ in her eyes), but while she used to discuss every aspect of her condition and treatments on Facebook, she never mentioned considering ECT. And even if this had been her own decision, it would be the duty of any responsible parent to talk their child, even as an adult, out of such a dangerous and truly bizarre treatment and not into it. http://franklludwig.com/carlyfleischmann.html
Read about her and http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/autism-non-speaking/ and http://themighty.com/2015/04/i-have-nonverbal-autism-heres-what-i-want-you-to-know/ and anything from: Amy Sequenzia to see how people perceived them before they started typing --this is how the pro-genocide people think of nearly all autistics and why autism is still, to this day on Reddit, autism is used as an insult. If you are not autistic, think of how you would feel if people treated you the way they did Carly=retard, will never develop, ABA(the kind she went through) how would you turn out if you had never had access to typing? Even so called-experts and so-called therapists treated her horribly. All of you therapists, professionals and parents of autistics that read stuff on /r/autism try to have a little empathy(stuff some "experts" say we do not have) put yourself in her shoes.
What if you were treated like this until age 10 or even longer?
