hey guys I noticed that if you buy left joycon and right joycon separately it comes to around CAD$80 instead of CAD$ 98 if you buy them together.
Are there any disadvantages of buying separately?
I'm sure there's some mark up on them but they're 2 separate controllers in the case of the Joycons, both have wireless functionality as well as a wired one and the right one has NFC and IR, both also have rumble, motion sensing and their own batteries.
On Amazon a left joycon is $49.99 while the HORI D-Pad left joycon is $24.99, the HORI one is wired only so no battery or wireless components.
I feel like a sizable chunk of the Switch's profit comes from accessories if you look at the price of the joycons, pro controller, charger, dock and other first-party accessories.
Even other controllers like the ones for the PS4 or the Xbox One have way more features than older wired controllers. They're obviously marked up to turn a profit, but even so they simply have a lot more going on.
edit: typo
It's very odd that you got two right joycons. Makes me question how the seller acquired it.
Left joy con is available on Amazon.
Nintendo Switch - Joy-con (L)-Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4NOLPY
Here's a left one for $42 on amazon.
Target overcharges for single joycons, and they're harder to find than I remember, but they're there.
Yup, here's an Amazon listing. Your mileage may vary depending on the color you want.
Its a joycon. Single joycon MSRP for $65 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01N4NOLPY its going to be the same price
Amazon actually seems to have them at the time of this comment, here's a left one: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-con-L-Gray/dp/B01N4NOLPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496588990&sr=8-1&keywords=joy%2Bcon%2Bl&th=1
> designed the Joycons to be symmetrical
youre thinking asymmetrical, if they were symmetrical the right joycon would have the thumb stick on the right and the buttons on the left, when used alone. which would be silly.
They sell joycons individually. BUT not all retailers carry them as they have to weigh shelf space vs profit and a whole other host of factors. So for them selling only the pairs is easiest.
The reason you dont see any single joycons is the same reason you dont see too many pairs in stock. Demand. People are buying them as fast as they are put on the shelf, so unless you are waiting for restocks at every waking moment, you probably wont see them for sale.
