is what i'm talking about. cause the nintendo one is like $40 from the amazon website cause they only have them available from 3rd parties.
Even with medium hands playing on the regular New 3DS for any extended amount of time is going to feel very uncomfortable. I don't have large hands and have a 2DS, 2DS XL, new 3DS and new 3DS XL and out of them all the 3DS XL is the most comfortable to play for anything longer than a few minutes.
The regular new 3DS shape is what makes it uncomfortable to hold since the bottom left and right corners are not as rounded as the new 3DS XL's and they tend to dig into your palms after a while.
The new 3DS XL is a bit heavier though it's more ergonomic and more comfortable to hold. The battery also lasts longer on the new 3DS XL and the stylus is much better.
I still keep my regular new 3DS for my sons to play on occasionally and for the novelty of being able to change the plates. About the only game I prefer playing on the regular new 3DS is Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King since its text is blurrier on the new 3DS XL.
One final note: playing pixel perfect mode for virtual console titles and DS games is absolutely wonderful on the new 3DS XL since it's got a huge screen.
The joy-con sticks on the Switch are really not that comfortable to use especially since the Switch is rather flat. I play 99% handheld and until I got a Pro Controller I didn't realize how uncomfortable the joy-cons are in handheld mode.
For maximum comfort I play the Switch using my Pro Controller with the new Switch Adjustable Charging Stand for extended play sessions.
~~I had no idea Nintendo had a USB AC Adapter. I'm definitely picking one up. I obviously don't own one, but I like it because it's portable. The AC Adapter that comes with the Switch is huge. I have a pretty large Orzly case and it has a large pocket. The AC Adapter that came with the Switch won't fit in there. The USB AC Adatper would.~~
~~Plus, it's only $10. The AC Adapter is $26.~~
Scratch that, just re-read the product, it doesn't charge the Switch. Only Switch accessories. So yeah, get another standard AC Adapter.
PS, if you like portability, I highly recommend the Adjustable Charging Stand. It's small and portable and provides quite a few viewing angles plus charging.
Here's an adjustable charging stand for undocked mode that I use for downtime at work. Extreme recommendation! It's perfect for your use case. How you hide yourself while playing is up to you ;) Recommend placing it on something elevated, so you're not just staring straight down at your desk. Less silly looking to other people, better ergonomics for you.

Games like Civ VI or Into the Breach are good, because it's all turn based and your gameplay doesn't really suffer for not holding the thing right in front of your face. Doesn't require precise control and you can break away to do something else at any time.
Also, hold down the Home button to quick-open the power options, then press A for sleep mode. Less conspicuous than jumping for the power button if you hear somebody approaching, and maybe even faster.
Yes. But if it's within the dock, regardless of shell; then the screen will be disabled. Even if an HDMI isn't plugged in.
This might be more your style. Not a dock, literally just a 90 degree charge stand with a kickstand.
I don't have the case, but I did buy the Nintendo stand they released recently and am a big fan of it if you don't want a case.
edit: Link to the stand I was talking about: [link]
You'll need a charging stand. Nintendo recently released an official one and third party ones have been around for awhile.
You would need an additional USB-C to A converter so you would want a stand that moves the USB-C to the side, or find some way to deal with the super long dongle now sticking out of the bottom of your system.
Import it from elsewhere. Your dollar is really strong compared to Canada (I hate ordering things from the UK), so if you are interested and have an Amazon account for anywhere excluding JPN, check this out.
>adjustable charging stand for Nintendo Switch
here you go
uhh there's a first-party solution for that. it's $20, has a charge port and the angle can be adjusted. I use mine for all tabletop use
I was wondering the same but realized, it's for this charging stand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D12JGBB
Maybe the official charging stand?
Don't make a Rook*ie mistake, check the prices.

Also on Amazon.
I don't have the charging stand in the OP but I have the HORI Multiport USB Playstand (also NOT a mini dock) : $27.99. If you don't mind something bigger, it might be worth it for the extra USB ports, more stable stand, and multiple viewing angles.
Looks like it might work with the official Switch charging dock/stand:
I use this stand all the time. Just plug a cable in and the switch charges. It also makes the switch really stable
It’s $25 Canadian
I got this battery case. It works really well and has adjustable kickstands. $50 Canadian
This is a really good carrying case. It’s small and compact. Can hold the switch in it’s battery case. It also holds a lot of games. It’s black with grey Mario print on it. So if you don’t like Mario that might be a deal breaker. But it’s pretty good. It’s at Best Buy for $20 Canadian
I have this one and it works great for exactly this sort of thing. And charging in tabletop too of course. Plugged into a portable charger on a plane is awesome.
What are you trying to do exactly? Play in table top mode while charging? This should work for that:
Right. I want to know what it is so I can buy one. The only one I can come up with is this and it doesn't have USB ports on it for the Gamecube controller adapter.
You could grab one of these
Nintendo makes one with just the charging port on the side, which is VERY handy.
Other wise Id just look into cell phone or foldable stands, which leave the bottom port exposed.
I would use the adjustable charging stand rather than the hori playstand.
The back isnt nearly as tall so its more likely to fit just fine within the Grip.
Keep your toenails longer and use those instead.
Okay, okay, honestly the best thing to do would probably be some light surgery on your Switch. Pop the kickstand off by opening it beyond its stopping point (it will be fine, it pops right back into place pretty easily). If you look on the bottom of the kickstand where it hooks into the bottom of the Switch, you'll see the only thing holding it closed are a couple of plastic "teeth" or nubs. You could file those down just enough to make it easy to pop open without having it fall open on its own, maybe? Replacement kickstands are $4, so even if you fuck up it wouldn't cost much to replace.
The other option is the $20 charging stand which is much, much better than the basic kickstand because it actually lets you charge it while its standing, and it's adjustable. It's also $20 and its another attachment to carry around with you, though.
Nintendo recently released their own charging stand. It's on Amazon.
On Amazon! [link]
>Tabletop mode isn't much better.
Can you use this portable dock to plug in the gamecube usb adapter?
The reason I wanted a case, not a battery bank, ^IF ^^YOU ^^^WOULD ^^^^READ ^^^^THE ^^^^^WHOLE ^^^^^^POST, is because I want it for Tabletop mode. However I can use, as a certain ^^MORE ^^HELPFUL response said, use this.
