I use the RDS Industries Nintendo Switch Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case. It's $20 at Walmart and Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U/
It has room for cartridges under the system in little removable plastic boxes. I removed them. The pouch in the middle makes for nice padding. The case is fairly rigid, so I know I could drop my system and not fear it's safety.
Personally, this is what I plan to use forever when traveling with my switch. If I need more than this... like extra controllers and the dock... I'll use a second bag and load it up with all the extras and then use this case for the system and put that in the same bag.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the handle is great and makes carrying the system extra easy.
Hands down. Sturdy, looks good, nice storage and not big. Nintendo Switch Carrying Case – Protective Deluxe Travel Case – Black Ballistic Nylon Exterior – Official Nintendo Licensed Product https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_B9NoCbYBS2KB7
I have the officially licensed RDS one, it's great. I'm also not using it since I have a Skull & Co GripCase that came with its own carry case. If you live in the US, I'd be happy to send it to you free of charge. It's practically brand new. Take a look at the link, if you like it and want me to send it to you, you can PM me your info and I'll ship it today.

Going Physical for all games that are released that way. This way if I invest in a game that turns out to be sour (they're all sour if you lick them) I can trade it in or sell it. If you buy digital, you're stuck with it.
I'm rocking the RDS travel case which has 8-slots for games. So dealing with the cartridges isn't a big deal and I love displaying my video game boxes on my shelf.
Edit: I also have Amazon Prime, so all of my pre-orders and games that have been out less than 2 weeks are 20% off. So the games I want at launch I get cheaper than buying digitally.
To add, I really like my case: Amazon link. Its pretty sturdy and holds a few physical games. I think I picked mine up from Walmart for like $20.
A screen protector is the only one I would consider “must have.” The screen is plastic so it a very good idea to have something to protect the screen from scratches.
Tempered glass screen protectors in particular are what I recommend.
You may need a microSD card eventually, but I’d recommend seeing how quickly you fill up the internal storage to get an idea of how large of one you need.
I think most people do end up needing an SD card. Generally 128GB or 256GB are good choices, though
A carrying case is also a good idea if you plan on taking your Switch out with you. I’ve had the RDS Industries case for three years and definitely recommend it!
I don’t really consider this a must have, but a Pro Controller is a great investment. If you find the Joy-Con to be too small then it’s a huge improvement in comfort
I got this one at Gamestop for same price as Amazon, and I love it. It's got indentions for the triggers so it sits flat and a soft cushy thing that goes over the screen and keeps it in place. It's pretty minimalist, sturdy, and it's branded so that's nice. It smells horrible though, but whatever.
Nintendo's officially licensed black carrying case (the $20 one, not the $12 one) feels by far the sturdiest when compared in person to even the Zelda variations of the same design. The zippered pouch is very useful and it comes with storage cases for 8 cartridges. The messenger bag is terrific if you need to bring the dock and absolutely everything, but for just the console, games, and charging cable, I find the $20 one most convenient.
EDIT: I just noticed Amazon has this one listed for $25, however my local Walmart has them for $18.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZgAOBb4YHCXS5
This one will not hold your charger, but I highly recommend it because it is a hard case. People have had issues with their switch turning on in their cases and overheating because buttons get pressed and turn on the system. This one keeps the system totally secure and prevents that from happening. It is super durable and nice looking as well. It holds 8 games plus whichever one is in your system. There is a soft flap that protects the screen and it has a zipper enclosure to fit earphones or a few more carts.
If you play tabletop mode, my recommendation is to use a case with a foldable stand in it. Like this one that I use. It's very comfortable and stable on a surface like a bed. The only real downside is that you can't charge while playing.
Are USB power bricks a good idea or bad idea for the Nintendo Switch?
I need to check to see which games are available through NSO for NES, SNES, and Genesis/Mega Drive. (More because emulators and many games for FDS are better compared to the cartridge mainly because of the FDS sound chip.)
Forgot to mention the case I bought for the Switch V2 I owned works perfectly for the OLED Switch I own now! It's the official Nintendo one. https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carrying-Case-Protective-Ballistic/dp/B01MY9JB2U/
I have the 128GB Mushroom Miscro SD card in my OLED Switch. Is it similar to a Smartphone where I can move larger chunks of data to the Micro SD card? Dead set on wanting to buy games physically and no problem if a game has a pack-in compilation for digital and/or an expansion is digital either.
I'm not sure about in person, but I bought this one on Amazon years back
If you haven't already I would recommend getting a carrying case for when you bring it places.
I think I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Carrying-Case-Protective-Ballistic/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=sr_1_6
But I must have an earlier model or something, mine doesn't have the prop-flap.
It's about the slimmest one I could find while still being a hard case. It's got space for 8 game carts, and there's a storage pocket but realistically it's not large enough to store much. The velcro flap over the screen feels pretty strong, so I don't worry about scratches or movement.
I bought this case. If you toss in the joycon straps it bulges out and feels like its putting pressure on the screen. This case cant even really hold games or a usb C cable. I would stick with the $19 other cases that have a more hard shell feel.
This is the one I have that I returned the other one for. Fits the games the joycon straps and has a nice feel to it. Yes it does smell bad at fist keep it open for a few days to let it air out and DO NOT BUY THIS AT AMAZON OR GAMESTOP!!!! Target sells this for $19.99 and See it at walmart for $18.99.
A carrying case is a really good idea if you plan on taking it with you placed. I have the RDS Industries one and it’s quite nice.
I wouldn’t consider the Pro Controller a must have, but most people find it to be a lot more comfortable than the Joy-Con. If you’re going to be playing docked frequently then it’s something to look into.
I have this one and really like it.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/
Has a pouch for games or also two small plastic game holders that hold four cards each. It's durable and hard, so the system won't be crushed.
It's also officially licensed so it looks nice with the Switch logos on the front and zipper.
It likely was - this one on Amazon looks just like mine - https://www.amazon.com/NINTENDO-SWITCH-DELUXE-TRAVEL-CASE-MULTI-GAME/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=38L2C8LFF8A9L&keywords=rds+switch+case&qid=1552410187&s=gateway&sprefix=rds+&sr=8-3
I would have to check for sure when I'm home from work, but it looks identical, so it probably was made by RDS.
I ended up splitting my purposes. I bought a Vancropak for regular use, now it's a daily driver for carrying my lunch to work, DM notes, etc. I also ponied up for a pelican case for if I want to take my switch + accessories. If I just wanted to carry my switch to work or whatever (this has drastically reduced), I have this travel case.
The backpack plus the travel case ended up being about the same price when I got them as the posted backpack. Much happier with this. I will say, I loved the interior of the posted backpack, and if I cared enough at this point, I'd get it repaired locally.
That sounds like the case I have. I have this one: NINTENDO SWITCH DELUXE TRAVEL CASE https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_BHk6Bb7SZGT9T
I put them both in the zipper/flap that lays on the screen. I’m not worried about scratching the screen because the material between screen and pouch is thick.
In fact, I also carry my portable hdmi dock in the same flap alongside the two “ears” There’s enough room for all 3 and I haven’t scratched my screen yet after ~30 flights and lots of backpack time
It's this one: Link
I originally bought it from Amazon, used it for about 5 months (during which I actually traveled with it 4 times and the rest of the time it just sat on a shelf) and then bought a new one, so this one has just been sitting around. I can take some timestamps as well if you'd like
I have the one for the SNES mini and it is very nice quality. Solid build, made to specs to fit everything safely together. https://www.amazon.com/NINTENDO-SWITCH-DELUXE-TRAVEL-CASE-MULTI-GAME/dp/B01MY9JB2U?crid=2MLHGRGD2ZRKY&keywords=hard+case+nintendo+switch&qid=1537393975&sprefix=hard+case+nin&sr=8-3&ref=mp_s_a_1_3
I bought this case for like $20 USD and it's been a game changer in terms of portability. The Switch is a great portable console that revolutionizes the way you can game. While having my car repaired last week, I knocked out a few stages on Pool Panic in handheld mode and it was a blast.
Super Mario Odyssey alone is worth getting a Switch for. It's the most fun game I've ever played and I sincerely think you'll love it. Mario Kart is a great game to have as well. I haven't played BoTW but everyone I've talked to has raved over it. Smash is also going to be well worth getting a Switch for.
It's a great console, incredibly portable and versatile, and its game roster is expanding both through Nintendo games and the indie market (although the eshop could use some gatekeeping work) so I would recommend getting one.
As far as cases go, the one by RDS is by far my favourite. It has little divots for the joycons, so you can leave them attached and the system lays completely flat and secure. The zippered pouch that secures it is soft against the screen and has no stitching to scratch it. The outer shell is rigidly hard enough to throw into a backpack with no worries. Size-wise it's only slightly bigger than the Switch itself. I also like that the 2 game cases only hold 4 cards each, so you can travel with only the ones you plan on playing and the others can stay safe in their own case at home. Seriously I bought, tried and returned 4 other cases before landing on this one. I love it.

I got mine just a bit ago from Indiegogo. It arrived the same day they showed up on Amazon, and when i looked at the Amazon listing that same day there were only 3 left.
Unfortunately it looks like they burned through all the stock they sent Amazon prior to Chinese New Year celebrations.
Admittedly, i was bummed when i saw the announcement about new years, assuming i was going to have to wait a month or more. Strangely, it showed up really quickly from China, and the form and fit has been great. No issues docking or with shoulder buttons as some people have said.
The base entry price includes the carrying case, and to be frank, you're going to need it. It's pretty much a thicker version of this case with a few added bells and whistles. It's thicker because the grip considerably changes the form factor of your Switch and will no longer fit into any of the original cases provided.
Long story short, buy it from Indiegogo and you'll probably be as happy as i am currently. Would buy again.
Here you are friend! It's pretty basic but I actually love it. It's a sort of harder shell and keeps the Switch pretty secured. The little mini cases are underneath where the Switch sits.
Suggestions for a tried and tested comfortable grip case for playing exclusively in portable mode that is compatable with the traveler's deluxe case? I'm having a hard time picking one out.
The Skull & Co grip case seems perfect on its own, but it's sold exclusively with a case that's too big to fit in my messenger bag and it's a bit expensive.
I was looking at the JETech, but it seems a bit flimsy and I can't find it anywhere. Not sure what to consider.
I got this one from big ben, switch fits in it perfectly. Small pocket for accessoires and 2 small cases for games and SD cards The case is a hard top so drops will fully protect it. https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
There's also a bigger version where the dock fits in it.
I can really recommend it
I have a 2 hour commute and take my Switch with me to play. I wouldn't bother with a screen protector or anything but I do use this travel case which keeps it safe in my bag. Definitely recommend it.
I use this case and it's great!
I haven't bought a protective screen and there are no scratches at all.
I use my MBP USB-C charger all the time.
Thanks. I read an article about this one so deciding between your recommendation and that one currently
I use this case and it's been great so far. It holds the Switch, 8 games, the straps and the charging cable (without wall adapter) just fine while still fitting into my backpack.
Here is the one I have
Nintendo Switch Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_RHfgAbV3V9VHX
It’s quite sturdy and carries everything I need for it except for the ac adapter (which I carry separate in my luggage anyway when I travel for work).
There are a few color selections as well, and one of the Zelda themed ones is only $13.99. Otherwise, the standard one is $19.99
Hi yall, I was wondering if there was a picture of the carrying case which was included in the mario odyssey bundle. Like the inside of the case. I am trying to see if its worth the additional 20 dollars or if i should just buy a carrying case separately. This is what I am trying to compare to : https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=sr_1_5?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1507763755&sr=1-5&keywords=nintendo+switch+carrying+case
I originally bought this one, but ended up returning it. Downsides for me were:
The outside is squishy, not hardshell as advertised.
The way the straps hold the system in place is a real bitch to take it out, especially if you want to keep the joycons attached.
It had a strong chemical smell that didn't go away after a week.
Instead I picked up the official RDS Traveler Deluxe, which I absolutely love. For handheld protection and transport it couldn't be more practical imo, and it has a lot of quality details I really appreciate. Found it at walmart for $18.
Screen protector is a must. A glass one is preferred, though it is possible to go with a plastic one, as the screen of the switch is plastic.
A durable case to carry everything in is a must if you plan to take it out with you. I have this one, and it is absolutely perfect.
Really depends on your needs. If you find that you're setting up for larger sessions with a lot people and a TV, go with the larger case. If you're just transporting the Switch for yourself, buy the smaller case.
I have this one and I really like it.
i'm wary of cases like this and ones with mesh pockets inside bc i don't like the idea of anything pushing down on the joy sticks for extended periods of times. i got this one and it's perfect for me
Check this out for a case: https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
You can see them in store at Target. The only thing is that the accessory pouch is kind of small - two joycons didn't fit but you could probably fit a cable and two joycon straps.
I will say I'm very impressed with mine.
Nice snug fit for the Switch+joycons and room for plenty of games and a little mesh pouch I put my joycon straps in. The zipper is nice and meaty and I love the look and feel of the hardshell and case in general overall. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
This is why I have the Switch Travel Case ($20 https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ ) from RDS Industries (got mine at Walmart). I have dropped the system while in that case and no issues. Well worth the $20 for a $300 system... even if I'm just sticking that case into yet another bag with other stuff.
> RDS case
No. The stand when folded is about 6.5 inches long. Though if you put the switch in, and the pocket down. It can fit on top of it, if you dont mind the case bulging a little bit. It may be putting stress on the switch or the thumbsticks, but my friend does it that way and his is fine so far.
LMAO, that's not the case I'm talking about, although I do have that one too. My measurements and math were based on this case, by the same company, which is comparable to the BotW I think. You would need to measure your own to confirm, but I can't be too far off. So I really do suggest you calculate the volume of your case and see just how surprisingly more space hungry it is :)
I drag mine behind me using the intestines of the Silver Lynels I've slaughtered.
When that's inconvenient, I use this.
Both are pretty effective.
If you're worried about theft, get a small portable safe... actually those are kinda heavy. Might want to get a few thousand helium balloons to help carry it. Problem solved!
The supremely popular case made by RDS Industries (here) may leave scuff marks on the bottom your switch. But what would I know, I am the only one to have this problem with it having over a quarter billion in sales.
I suggest leaving micro fiber clothes on the bottom of it. Other than that, it is a great case.
It's hard shelled and really nice. However, it's not that expensive. It's $20 at Target.
These cases have the indentations needed to give the switch a flat surface and also have the game cards in a place where they won't affect the Switch with their weight.
https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
That said, they don't have too much room for extra joycons except for a little pouch that sits above it, but you can fit joycons in there.
What case do people recommend? My Switch is arriving in the mail soon and I want a nice case for it. Been looking at this case and I wonder if anyone knows if it fits cables as well. I want a case that can fit the Switch, games and USB-C cables, I really like the small game cases that come with that case. Also, is it any cases that's not too big that will fit the charging stand? I'm wondering if I wanna get one or not, but don't want it to be a hassle to carry around. Thanks!
You mike like this one I was just recommending to someone else: https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
It doesn't hold as many games, but they sit snug under the console in plastic cases that tension fit in a pair of compartments.
I know a lot of people here like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
A coworker of mine has it as well, so I got to check it out. Nice build quality, not too bulky, fits a good amount of stuff.
Bought this one yesterday at Target (the stockperson hooked me up; when I asked him about cases he said, "Oh yeah! We got one, let me go grab it off my cart". Literally the only one they had). Works like a charm, and seems pretty solid.
Got this one in the (IMO) hideous blue color because it was the only color any of the local gamestop's had just before a work trip. But I must say. Excellent quality case and I have no fear of my switch getting damaged in there. Great for trips and playing portable
A lot of youtubers and reditors are saying this is the best: https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=pd_sbs_63_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=S5GVP0M7XMV132BCMCDE There is a shieka version of it too.
I have been the smaller RDS Industries Traveler Deluxe Case and I've been loving it so far. My Switch has gone everywhere I go and easily, has not once been a nuisance to carry.
I am considering eventually getting the bigger one that can also fit the dock and the Pro Controller and possibly even getting a second dock to keep inside it at all times because sometimes when I go visit family, I want to hook the dock to hook up to their TV and have no easy way of easily transporting that right now. A second dock in the case would make it much more convenient as I wouldn't have to unhook it from my wall mounted TV every time.
This is the case I got. It's officially licensed and much sturdier than any I've compared it to, as well as being cheaper the the PDP ones. It also has a zippered pouch inside to keep cords or games from jostling around.
I currently have the RDS Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case on order. I'm not sure if I love the handle on top, but it seems sturdy and well protects the Switch. If anyone has a better suggestion, post it in the comments!
(Also, I recall someone getting this case early and posting a review - I can't seem to find it. If anyone has it, please let me know!)
throw it in my backpack
love the case btw
Definitely get a case and a screen protector
It's the basic stock "official" Nintendo switch case and it is very nice.

I ended up preferring the Amazon Basics version as it was slightly smaller and the handle on the official one annoyed me.
Not sure if anyone caught the lower profile "Switch" version of the the RDS Deluxe Travel case towards the bottom right, but it looks sick. Saw the review of the Zelda version on Youtube, and it checks all of the boxes for me: Semi-hard case, trigger indentations, zipper pouch, padded screen cover, compact, fairly low profile. Was going to go with the Surge case, but the light grey exterior was a little blah imo. Here are the point of references:

Pulling the trigger on the Switch version for sure. Hope this helps some folks.
The case looks exactly like the case offered by RDS

So i just bought the RDS Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/NNS40/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Travel+Case+NNS40+Black&qid=1615932733&sr=8-1
and i noticed and read that they took out this sort of "bag" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cND2Yb2xq6Q (see 1:54) and updated it a bit, so it looks like that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_1vIMuKIvM (see 2:50-3:00) and wanted to know, if the removal of the bag and only having the stand (so no bag) on the switch can hurt/cause damage to the screen or anything like that?
otherwise i like this case, i mainly just want something where i can put in my switch in, but don't want it do damage my switch
which case/carrying case do you all have/recommend?
i currently thinking about buying this one:
it looks good and it also has a adjustable viewing stand, which i want
or this one:
For a screen protector generally it doesn’t matter too much. Just get a tempered glass one. They’re much nicer than the plastic film ones! amFilm is a popular one. I have an Orzly one on mine and don’t have any complaints
For a carrying case: I really like my RDS industries one one. It protects it pretty well. I used it a lot for 3 years and it’s held up very nicely
I was going to recommend Satisfye but they don’t seem to sell carrying cases for the base console anymore. However I (and many others) really like their grip. It’s definitely worth looking into. The cases you can get bundled with the grips are great as well
Skull & Co also has a grip. I don’t have it myself but it’s recommended a lot!
Also, if you plan on playing docked a lot then I’d recommend the official Pro Controller. It’s a fantastic controller and is so much more comfortable than the Joy-Con…
The 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ is a popular alternative. I don’t find the quality to be quite as nice but I guess you could say the quality scales with the price. It’s also missing some features, but again, it’s a little cheaper! It does have a better d-pad, though
If you haven’t gotten a microSD card yet then I’d recommend the Sandisk Ultra or Samsung Evo Select ones
Here are kits from reputable brands, they not all include a screen protector:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U
A protective case for storage when not in use
>All these bundles are confusing me
There's really only one bundle available, the one with Mario Kart and 3 months of Nintendo Switch Online. This is a T-day special at Wal-Mart, not sure about Best Buy. Costco/Sams Club has a bundle as well but it just comes with a bunch of accessories that you may or may not need.
The Switch comes with one pair of detachable joycons. By themselves, these work as one controller each. The Switch also comes with a grip that allows two joycons to attach, forming a more traditional, single controller.
Nintendo also has a wireless Pro Controller which is widely regarded as the best controller.
There are a variety of third party controllers and generally, you get what you pay for. If you pay for a $20 wired controller, it'll probably be made out of the cheapest plastic and may not be all that durable, etc...
There are also some high quality third party controllers that cost nearly as much as the Pro Controller but IMO just go with the Pro controller.
I think you need at least two Pro controllers, possibly three. Mario Kart is definitely a great multi-player game and very easy to pick up and learn. My wife loves it and hasn't played a Kart game since 64.
Otherwise ask your kids. I'm sure your 10 year old knows about video games even if he/she doesn't own them.
A screen protector for the Switch is a must, especially if you think it'll be coming out of the dock.
A small or large travel case may be nice if you think this thing will be traveling with you.
It depends on the game. Most local multiplayer games only support up to 4 players, but the Switch is capable of up to 8 players at once so some games can do 5 player multiplayer.
The back of the box for a game will list how many players it supports. For example: New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe says it supports 1-4 players. It will also say this on the game’s eShop page.
You and your husband could take turns in games where it only allows 4 players.
Overcooked 2, New Super Mario Bros U, Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, and Super Mario Party are some good local multiplayer games.
All of these support 4 player multiplayer. The only one that allows up to 8 players is Smash Bros.
You’ll need extra controllers because the Switch only comes with one pair of Joy-Con. Most games would be fine with some third-party wired or wireless controllers, but a select few require you to have Joy-Con. Super Mario Party is one of those games that require each of you to have a Joy-Con.
Also, not all games allow you to use just a single Joy-Con as a controller. All of the ones I mentioned do, but sometimes they require you to either use two Joy-Con or to have a full sized controller
> I’m sure they’d want to bring the Switch to their grandparents’ house once in a while. Anything that would make traveling with the full console easier?
Are you wanting something that will allow them to take the dock with them or just the Switch? I have this case for taking my Switch places and it’s quite nice. It protects the Switch well.
There are also cases that will carry the dock as well. Here is one example
Other than that I do recommend getting a screen protector because the screen is plastic. Tempered glass screen protectors in particular are really nice.
Amazon has some great ones for the price! This is the one I have. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fuQoFb28KT4XW

Hey, interested in Destroy All Humans 2 and Threads of Fate. I've got some switch accessories- an unopened deluxe carrying case and an unopened thin protective case kit
I've also got A Link Between Worlds, and a whole bunch of other stuff on my post here
I think I've also got a PS Plus card laying around somewhere- give me a minute

I'm a fan of these RDS cases.
I forgot, here's the amazon link: https://www.amazon.de/Nintendo-Switch-Travel-Tasche-Game-Cases/dp/B01MY9JB2U
I recommend this one, using it myself: https://www.amazon.com/NINTENDO-SWITCH-DELUXE-TRAVEL-CASE-MULTI-GAME/dp/B01MY9JB2U
I originally started with the RDS case, then outgrew it and switched to the Butterfox case. Both have been great, and the Butterfox one in particular is IMO the best Switch case. They recently came out with a larger version with more space for accessories.
I've been looking into buying a switch case, specifically this one https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
but i was wondering if it can fit a premium card case in it like this one https://www.gamestop.com/nintendo-switch/accessories/nintendo-switch-premium-game-card-case-zelda-hylian-crest/150962
I can't tell from looking online but does the pouch have enough room to hold the card case?
If anyone has the same case i'd love to know.
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
i picked up that one from target. I like it, but it is somewhat minimal. not sure another joycon will fit.
any idea if RDS Traveler Deluxe case will work as a stand?
This is the official case, it's not actually made by Nintendo but it is licensed by them. If you really wanted an official case, the Zelda and Splatoon versions seem to be only $20 right now.
If you're looking for a different case, the Butterfox case is great as well.
Is THIS the case you're talking about? Because this is the best.
Also as mentioned here earlier get the amFilm tempered glass protectors. They're inexpensive and work great.
EDIT: Looked it up and apparently the case you're talking about is not the one I'm talking about. Don't get it, it looks like shit. You can get a much better case and screen protector if you go with the ones I linked and for the same price. The case is by RDS Industries but is still an offical Nintendo approved product and has the Switch seal/logo and everything.
i have this case and it works awesome. best one that i've seen.
Hey Pabswikk, I got the Nintendo Switch Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case (Black) from Walmart.
This is the one I use. Hasn’t done me wrong. Nintendo Switch Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_lz4hAb28F9W46
There are only a few updates right out of the box, and they dont' take long at all. I didn't get my console on a big holiday, however, so depending on how many people are trying to connect to Nintendo's servers on Christmas, it might take significantly longer.
A screen protector is very nice to have. I haven't got one myself, but I plan on getting one. Until then, I'm just very careful when docking/undocking my console.
For accessories, it depends. If you travel a lot or on a regular basis, a traveling case is definitely worth it. I got this one, and it's great. It's a tad bigger than the one found on Nintendo's website (even though it is an official Nintendo product), and comes with two four-cartridge cases and two SD card cases. Depending on what games he has, your son might also want a pro controller. I got the $70 one here, but there is a cheaper $30 option if you really want it (but personally I wouldn't recommend it). I primarily use my pro controller for MK8D and Splatoon 2. The last major accessory you might want is an SD card. Depending on how many games he wants to download as opposed to using a physical copy, an SD card might be worth it. I think the best option is a microSDXC UHS-I card, but I don't remember. The size depends on how much money you can spend and how many games you wanna download. I wouldn't really go for anything below 64GB, but that's just me.
I agree with Rei-hime. This is a good hard case, using it myself: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Game-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
There's a list of cases on various sites, but most of them were from around launch, so it's not all representative of what's avalible now.
I use this one with my Switch carrying it in my backpack: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MY9JB2U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And this screen protector is the one I use and is widely considered the one of the best: https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Tempered-Screen-Protector-Nintendo/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1509400303&sr=1-3&keywords=nintendo+switch+screen+protector
Easy answer RDS they have a travel Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5js7zb669A582 And a deluxe model https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N23OP50/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_Pks7zbSM41GKB
A lot of people speak highly of these cases:
If you want more suggestions, you could probably search old posts at /r/NintendoSwitch
This is the case that myself and my friends have and it's great.
In case people are wondering, this is the case I got:
https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
For $25, it was a steal - though I thought I got it $5 cheaper at Target?
RDS Industries, Inc Nintendo Switch Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_AJW7FQwtdjVPc
I'm not sure which case is the official case, but I have this one (officially licensed) and I fit 4 joycon straps no problem.
Most people speak highly of:
I, personally, use the Butterfox.
I want to put my Switch with a protective exterior shell into the smaller RDS deluxe carrying case. Will the Switch fit into the carrying case with the shell on? How much wiggle room does this carrying case leave? The shell I was looking at buying looks pretty thin but some of the carrying cases I'd looked at seemed to be very tight fits for the Switch system and I wanted to know how the fit of the Switch into this RDS carrying compared.
I was also trying to decide between the plastic protector shell made by 'Fyoung' versus another forthcoming one by Cyber Gadget. Can anyone speak to experiences with either brand?
Thanks!
So since my preferred case is out of stock what cases would you guys recommend
Anyone know where I can get this case in Canada? Seems to only be sold in US? https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
are you referring to this one ?
I got this one and have been happy with it so far. It is sturdy and I like the plastic cases for the cartridges.
Yes, there's a reason why the official carrying case comes included with tiny red cases that can hold up to four microSD cards: https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
Also this Hori game carrying case includes a holder for two microSD cards: http://www.play-asia.com/card-case-62-for-nintendo-switch-blue/13/70aw6l
What reason would they have to include these if you couldn't use more than one microSD card?
This is actually the same as the RDS Case, there are 5 different flavors though...

This one has my monies!
RDS Industries, Inc Nintendo Switch Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY9JB2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_RQ5Qyb8S12N58
I‘ve had this RDS industries case for a few years now and I quite like it. It protects the Switch well and can hold up to 8 cartridges.
It doesn’t have compartment for the charger, though
I've compared a bunch in person and this is the case I recommend. It's actually durable, slim, practical, doesn't call much attention to itself, and affordable. I especially like the zippered pouch and how easy it is to insert and remove the system.
Screen protector. The switch has a plastic screen. It will scratch incredibly easily. Don't buy the el cheapo film style protectors. Get a glass screen protector. You can get a two pack of them on amazon for under 10 bucks. Vastly superior to film screen protectors.
Carrying case. IMO, there are two non negotiable things a switch case needs. First, it needs good rigidity. With the DS line, you could get away with a soft case. The clamshell design is fairly impervious to damage in any kind of case. Not so with the switch. You want something that is hard, so it will resist squishing in a backpack, or whatever. It needs to hold the switch in place inside the case rattling around will damage the device over time.
The second thing it absolutely needs is molded cutouts behind where the triggers are. A case that's flat under the switch will press on the triggers when it's in there, and wear it out. You will get many suggestions. Most of them are badly designed or way overpriced. This is the best case for the money. It's super solid, holds 8 games, secures the unit, and has the cutouts.

You'll also want a micro SD. If you're gonna buy physical games, a 32 or 64 should be fine. If you're buying digital, get the biggest card you can afford.
Buy a good usb-c cable. I recommend Anker brand. Cheap cords are a crapshoot. Not all are standard compliant, and can damage your device
Thumbstick caps. The stick caps as is are frankly shit. I bought a pack of rubber caps for like 4 bucks 100% improvement.
If you're planning to play a lot of Mariokart, get the plastic wheels. They're cheap, and they're cool.
If you want an external controller, I'd advise not buying the official pro controller. 8bitdo.com is currently making a switch compatible controller with gyro, rumble, and usb-c charging. It will be out before the holidays. You can get one of their current controllers for like 40 bucks. It lacks rumble or gyro, but it's a great alternative for games that don't need those. A little small though. The upcoming SNES 30 Pro model looks awesome. I'd advise you to wait for it to drop and check out reviews. The nintendo pro controller is badly designed and super overpriced.
And a plastic folding tablet stand is very useful for tabletop mode. I use one all the time.
I have this one and dig it. Not too big, seems to be durable, molded for the joycons. https://www.amazon.com/Industries-Nintendo-Switch-Traveler-Deluxe-Travel/dp/B01MY9JB2U
I purchased the one made by Nintendo first. It didn't feel like it offered much protection and when earbuds are in the zip-up pouch it pushes out the top of the case. You also have to put the switch in it upside down unless you want whatever you put in the pouch rubbing against your screen.
