Amazon, for me, is listing the audiobook as the primary version for some reason; makes it easy to overlook.
Coincidentally, it's also the title of a book by Joe Hill.
Early Stephen King is good, like other's have mentioned. Anything from the 70s and 80s particularly. Salem's Lot, Shining, Pet Sematary, etc. And, yeah, like some else posted, King's son, Joe Hill, is good, too, like NOS4A2. He also writes a great horror comic, called Locke & Key
I also find Japanese horror books really freaky, really unerving.
Grotesque by Natsuo Kirino - if you want a book about teenagers since you are a teen, this book will do the trick. I just started reading it, but this disturbed girl just talking about hair is freaky. It focuses on a two sisters, one popular and another less popular unnamed girl, who go to an all-girl school and later, as adults, are murdered. The author, Kirino, is most well known for her other equally twisted book, Out: A Novel. Try that out, as well.
One of my favorite Dean Kootz book is Phantoms -- about a woman who decides to visit her home town, only to find it suddenly empty of all people. She and the a sheriff discover something sinister is at work. I like Koontz, and his output is amazing, but sometimes he can be hit or miss, but this book is right up there with some of King's best. It's got great characters and the build up is great.
