Hey! This happened to me and led to taking tons of antibiotics that wrecked my gut health- I feel for you :( what ended up saving me was adding d-mannose powder (Amazon link) to my water as soon as I felt any UTI symptoms. D-mannose is the sugar from cranberry so it is a way to get the effects of drinking cranberry without the sugar etc.
Also, it turned out a topical steroid I was using for eczema was impacting my bladder (which is very rare and uncommon) but it may be good to look critically at all of your cleaning or topical products as well- you just never know!
I can't recommend D-mannose enough for UTIs. You can see the glowing reviews. It only works against e-coli which is responsible for 90% of uti infections from what I understand. It will not interfere with the abx at all. It's totally benign - no side effects, it only helps. It's the simple sugar in cranberries and e coli loves it and clings to it and then you pee it out. Has done miracles for me - a long time uti sufferer. I literally have not taken abx for uti in over 15 years.
Sending you good vibes and hope you feel better soon. You're definitely not back to the beginning though I understand the frustration! Your body has been through a lot. Maybe think about adding in some immune boosters for a little while. Taking colostrum in the morning on an empty stomach is a good thing. Wheat grass is a good thing. Probiotics. Quit sugar. etc. <3
Hi! I got reoccurring UTIs for years and then got this D Mannose . I take it any time I feel one coming and it knocks it out almost immediately. It works on UTIs caused by e-coli.
Also drink lots of water. I get dehydrated easily and I think that lends to their start. Try to pee more frequently throughout the day even if you don’t “need” to.
I randomly came across your post and thought I'd comment. You might try D-Mannose - which you can buy at Sprouts or Amazon. I had a UTI for months and no antibiotics helped! I desperately started searching on the web and found this stuff. Took it for a few days and my UTI was dramatically better! Now I take it anytime I feel that icky "twinge".
Have you tried D-Mannose? It may not work if it's not a UTI, and I would recommend checking with your doctor before using it, but I used to have awful chronic UTIs I didn't feel like ever went away and it was a miracle. Check out the reviews on Amazon. FYI the powder works better.
I'm in a long distance relationship. So when we see each other for the few days we tend to get pretty busy. I used to get UTIs every time and one time I got a kidney infection. UNTIL I discovered this stuff called d-mannose (http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-D-Mannose-Powder-3-Ounce/dp/B000HCMK90). You can mix it with water and use it to flush out your bladder and urinary tract. Read the comments on the amazon link for instructions on how to use it. Total lifesaver, haven't had a UTI since I started using it. Cranberry pills and juice did nothing for me.
Unfortunately for my body, it doesn't respond well to home remedies such as cranberry juice or citrus, so I have to go to the doctor whenever I get one myself. I heard on reddit that this stuff works pretty well for UTIs, but it hasn't had much of a response to me. Might be because I wasn't so active with it, so it might work for you or it might not. If you want, you can go to the drug store and get some UTI test strips, they cost like $15, so you may or may not want to do that. If you go to the doctor, they'll most likely prescribe to you a generic anti-biotic and they shouldn't be too expensive (4 bucks, without insurance).
Yes, I do. I usually get it from sex though, and it's just common in my family (my mom gets really bad ones as well).
I take D-Mannose sugar though which prevents them
You should try D-Mannose - it's a type of sugar that you just put a teaspoon of it into water or cranberry juice. It's pretty awesome as a UTI preventative. I used to get UTI's all the time, and I haven't had one since I started using this.
I get UTI's constantly. It seems like I'm always on the verge of getting one, or fighting one off. I've been dealing with this for the past few years now, but I finally got to a point where I rarely get one anymore!
Obviously, water intake is really important. Also, if you have a Safeway/Von's in your area, they sell 100% cranberry juice called Just Cranberry (NOT COCKTAIL) but you could order it online as well. It tastes like shit, but it has saved me many a trip to the doctor.
I'm not big on "naturopathic" remedies, but another thing that has saved me is D-Mannose powder. Buying it on Amazon is the cheapest I've found it. It's supposed to help flush bacteria out of your bladder. I'll mix it in with a glass of water if I'm starting to feel like I'm getting an infection, and usually the feeling goes away after a bit.
On top of these things, I buy a cranberry supplement from Walmart as a prophylactic. It's super cheap, and it's like one of the highest amounts of cranberry I could find in a pill. I think it's their Spring Valley brand, "Super Strength" cranberry concentrate. I take it as soon as I wake up and before I go to bed, and every time after I have sex with my husband. Also, make sure she urinates after intercourse if she doesn't already.
Anyway, I think you should have your girlfriend try some of these things if she's not doing them already. Like I said, it has completely turned my life around. I felt broken for years, and for the past 6-8 months, I've only had a couple infections instead of dozens.
Here's links to the products I use.
D-Mannose is basically the distilled cranberry sugar that helps with urinary problems (and you obviously can't make your cat drink cranberry juice). I use the gelcaps and give him half of one per meal mixed in with his wet food (so about 500mg per day (1/2 tsp) while he seems to be having issues). I only give it to him if he seems more highly stressed out or has been licking his bottom more frequently and it has cleared up those symptoms. Usually for about 5 days until I am certain it won't recur. Unfortunately if he's already blocked or in a more serious state it can't do anything to help that :(
The product linked above is just the powder without the gelcaps, which is slightly less expensive.

Glucosamine Sulfate is the same stuff they give to people with joint issues. It's good for that but also lowers inflammation overall and has been shown to help rebuild the bladder lining. I give him 1/2 capsule twice daily mixed into his food. Again this is only given when he seems to be showing symptoms rather than at all times.
D-mannose in cranberry juice is what helps get get rid of some UTI bacteria but only if it's caused by E-coli. You have to drink alot of juice to get a good amount of d-mannose so I prefer the supplement! I like this one. Also d-mannose and cranberry pills are not the same thing. You need to specifically look for d-mannose supplements. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HCMK90/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_BHD4BREPCVG7AE0FFVNE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
My naturopathic doctor had me take this which helped me as well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FL22UU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_TQPZMBPGQAK06GV15SM8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
But of course everyone is different so it's so important you don't like it progress into a kidney infection. I was drinking alot of water, taking d-mannose every few hours, and also the cranstat supplement. That was under my doctor's care so always be careful for your own needs.
I second D-mannose! I take this one since I'm not good at swallowing pills.
No problem.
I order from amazon “Rael Organic Pads” and I’m still figuring out a good tampon brand but I’ve been using “seventh generation organic cotton tampons with comfort applicator”.
In my experience, dmannose in the pure powder has worked better for me than the capsules.I use the Now brand
Also, I take a urinary/vaginal probiotic to keep my flora healthy to ward off any bad bacteria/yeast. My OBGYN recommended this one. It’s worked great for me. I’ve been taking it for the past year. Jarrow Probiotic
I use the Now Foods brand--here's a link!
It dissolves completely in liquid and tastes sweet. It's quite pleasant, and you only need about a teaspoon at a time.
This is the only kind I will use: http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-D-Mannose-Powder-3-Ounce/dp/B000HCMK90
Get some D-mannose. Your SO will forget what a UTI is.
Have her pull it out ASAP. She should drink lots of water so she urinates a lot & flushes out the area. If she can get some of this stuff (any brand, you can find @ health food stores), it's inexpensive & very good for preventing UTIs.
If it was inside her for a matter of 12 hours or so, she is probably fine as long as she gets it out soon.
