Here is what I’m using. It lacks a specific LDS perspective, but it more than makes up for that by having a wealth of information about the language, culture, archeology, etc., of the ancient people of the near East.
I also highly recommend Ben Spackman’s syllabus esp. when studying the Old Testament.
I am LOVING my new study bible: It's the "Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible. (NRSV, in my case)
I am not sure of the authors' denominations but the focus is on the background information and historical context that a modern reader wouldn't intuitive know. Rather than doctrine.
Honestly, it's the first study bible I've enjoyed using for a long time.
This Bible https://www.amazon.com/Cultural-Backgrounds-Study-Hardcover-Comfort/dp/0310452686 really helps explain the historical background of scriptures.
Glad you enjoyed and learned from it!
Ill be teaching more this Saturday night at 5pm but you can check out more of my interpretation from John as well as other texts on my site, http://www.shawngaran.com
The NRSV Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible is solid, too. Lots of great additional blurbs on cultural context.
