We buy a fairly high end kibble, Nutro Wholesome Essentials Lamb & Rice, but we also supplement that kibble with another 1/4-1/2 cup of real meat like pork, beef, salmon, etc. For some reason, chicken upsets her stomach so we avoid that.
Some of what we've learned with our girl:
Our Tippy has a SUPER sensitive stomach. We tried switching her to a raw diet, and that made it worse for her (increased vomiting, loose stools). She gets a cup of Nutro Lamb & Rice as well as a 1/2 cup of whatever meat we are having for dinner (steak, fish, lamb, etc). For reasons I can't understand, chicken always gives her trouble.
It's a messy process! Thank goodness for our hardwood floors and Nature's Miracle odor & stain cleanser.
Thank you for the list.
>I would recommend ordering your dog food online.
Definitely going to do this. I'm considering this Nutro food, as it can be found in stores and online, and reviews say it is good for dogs with sensitive skin and allergies. It's on your list and has been mentioned by others that have PM'd me. Thanks again.
> Have you heard of others in your area having the same issue with moths? Do you know if the local pet store had gotten complaints?
I don't have any friends in our neighborhood who buy from our particular Petsmart. Most of my friends live about 15 miles away in the city and only a couple of them have dogs. I think I'll make a trip to the store and just look at their shelves a bit to see if I see moths, and bring it up to the store owner. I do vaguely recall seeing moths in the store near the food once and thinking, "Those are kind of like what we have in our cabinet," but it was a long time ago and fleeting; my husband buys the food most of the time, so I haven't been in the store as often as he has. I am curious though.
I have found some folks online post about Authority brand and finding moths and worms in their food repeatedly. There are other similar and more extreme stories like this, this, and this, but none of the above-mentioned links are in my area.
