I’m using the PS4 Remote Play app to stream it to an iPhone XS Max.
You can play with your phone vertical or horizontal and use touch controls if you need to, but you can also super easily connect a PS4 controller via Bluetooth.
I saw this phone holder for the controller in a reddit thread and it’s really simple and works great.
Nyko Smart Clip - PlayStation... [link]
Nyko Smart Clip DS4
I have one and they're great! Compatible with nearly any Smartphone.
Amazon Nyko Smart Clip DS4
Edit: Sorry I didn't see the part about the keyboard. Not sure if it will facilitate that.
I've had it for a few months now and it's been great. I have only played over my home wifi though so I can't really comment on how it is outside of my house (i.e. on someone else's wifi etc). My PS4 is connected via Ethernet which I think is almost a must for remote play. You download the PS4 remote play app and that is how you connect it to your PS4. The controller is connected via bluetooth so you have to pair it with your phone. I have played a few games, Diablo 3, Borderlands 2 and Destiny with zero lag. One suggestion though would be to get the controller adapter. I bought this one [link] it is a must for use with the phone. Battery life has been decent - I don't have specifics but i remember the one day I was home sick playing and I got at least a few hours and my phone was down at like 30% (from a full charge) before I decided to plug it in.
I see. That’s a shame. There’s one model made by Nyko which seems fairly well thought out with rubber straps. Problem is that I can’t find it anywhere on Amazon UK or DE.
Yankees can probably get it though.
I just looked on Amazon and filtered by reviews. I ended up getting the Nyko one for the PS4 controller. It’s really nice because you can adjust it as needed and can expand ALOT.
I used to do the same thing with a ps4 controller and this clip. Worked great for everything but Minecraft which is unresponsive to a PS4 controller. So I modified (cut up and superglued) the clip to work on an Nvidia Shield controller and it's the best. Minecraft, emulators, native games, even Terraria which only supports one or two controllers works with only a few tweaks.
But what's the point of practice if it's on a different input device? The time I got a fight stick it was obvious that it would improve my (terrible) results, but all my practice on the game pad was useless and didn't translate at all and understandably muscle memory wasn't going to apply.
And the pro controller, aside from having the same questionable dpad as the joycon, in my book is really stretching the definition of portable and only if used with something like this as otherwise it crosses outside of portable territory.
All that said... I don’t know him and (just like you) I can’t know for sure what he meant, not to mention that when I lose control and buy a fighting game I know it will have only single player, otherwise I’ll just get frustrated. As Blaz Blue taught me, that’s still not a guarantee (I’m REALLY bad at 2d ones). In other words it’s not my fight and I don’t care about it either so I’m leaving you two to your own discussion.
> D1 I found online for the original Game Boy
I just YouTubed that and it looks terrible. I've pretty much made D1 on a PSX emulator my go to app to play on my phone during long plane rides. Get something like this and an OTG cable and you're good to go if you have an existing PS4 controller.
I use my DS4. Pairs with my PC, all my android devices, console (duh), and pretty much anything that uses bluetooth. Get yourself one of these if you are serious about portable emulation. I use them primarily on my Shield Tablet since it's a bigger screen with front facing speakers.
So, Nyko Smart Clip - PlayStation 4 [link] this is what I bought. Sorry for the link, on mobile. I wiped my Vita and set it up with my dummy account. Now, I log on with the dummy and connect with a dual shock on my main to play games. It works beautifully!!! I actually think I'm happier this way. The Dual shock is way more comfortable than any case I could get.
i was totally into this when i tried a year or so ago and aside from the shitty wifi options outside of home it was fucking amazing.
also i used this [link]
the best games are ones you can play where lag is tolerable. Turn based, adventure , even some puzzle games were great.
edit , i dont know if it has changed but bluetooth use to interfere with wifi and vise versa, use the usb adapter to plug your controller right in. Not an issue if your only using the cell signal for the data.
For everyone who, like me, just wants the Pip Boy to use during gameplay, please remember, you can always just get one of these and achieve the same effect - maybe even better since you don't have to twist your arm to see your 2nd screen.
But feel free to treat yoself tho.
I just wish that they hadn't put the buttons in the middle of the phone. I've got to mount the phone off-centre in my Nyko Smart Clip and my *shifty eyes* ^^^selfiestick 'cause the buttons are obsured/randomly pressed.
I do, but I'm not at home at the moment.
It holds both my LG G3 and 2013 N7. The N7 is a bit heavy tbh, so using it in the clip can be annoying after a while.
You could get something like this. Attaches to your controller and holds your phone. I got one when I got tired of carrying my psp and phone around with me all the time. (although to be honest the controller isn't much smaller than the psp.)
Just get one of these dude, then you can have your phone landscape for a larger display and get the benefit of actual quality buttons and pad from a genuine controller.
What kind of controller do you need for a USB OTG controller to work on Android?
Would a DS3 or DS4 work out of the box or is that not possible to get that synced up? I'm thinking I might buy a Nyko Smart Clip + a USB OTG cable, and I could use it with my Nexus 7 which I haven't touched in a while. I'd like to make sure that works before buying it though.
I think any tablet with Android 4.2 or higher should work.
I personally only tested it with my old phone. I'd recommend a phone and use the Nyko smart clip to mount it to your Dual Shock
I think a tablet would be more unwieldy unless you have a case with a kickstand or something.
If you're still looking, I use the Niko Smart Clip. It works great, can use it with a case over the phone too. The only problem is that it 'squishes' the phone to hold it still, and what with the placement of the power button and volume rocker, it makes them either hard to reach quickly and/or will occasionally cause them to be pressed from the pressure. My solution is using a rubber case, that makes it harder for the buttons to be pushed by accident.
They make things like this
I am sure someone if not MS will come up with something like this to work with bigger tablets.
This is the one I really like:
Or you could get a Nyko smart clip
I recommend the Nyko clip with an Xbox or PS3/4 controller
You just need an OTG cable and a short USB cable and it's awesome
Awesome. If you're feeling fancy, there's stuff like this.
Right Angle Micro USB:
USB Type C to USB Type A Port:
Do you have any other controllers lying around? Amazon has plenty of mounts for PS4 and XB1 controllers that clip onto your controller and provide you with a phone mount, but I can't find any for a 360.
example: phone mount clip for DualShock controllers
This company seems to make 360 mounts but they don't sell on Amazon and I can't find much as to their credibility
Otherwise you could also do something DIY (rubber bands and binder clips), or perhaps 3D Print something if you have access to a printer
Got it off Amazon
There's the Xbox One S or a Dualshock 4 controllers. They're both Bluetooth and people sell mounts for them for your phone like this: [link]?
Otherwise, I use a 8Bitdo SN30 Pro which has a seperate phone clip designed for it: [link] . It's a smaller controller and easier to fit in my pockets than the proper DS4/XBOX controllers.
Though I think the real problem is you're on iOS, and Apple doesn't allow Bluetooth controllers that aren't on their MFi program to work on iOS. Searching on Amazon for mfi controller, looks like Steelseries has a few. But I've got no experience with that.
You can use the DS4 on (android) phones! They even make phone clips for this
DS4 klip. But I dont use nyko brands.
You need DS4vita plugin to use with PS Vita, its very useful if you want to play fighting game in Vita.
I would just get a mount for an existing controller (Switch, xbox, ps4, etc) and use that. Something like this
Sony's info about it
Here it is on Google Play
Ever since the Vita Grip with L2/R2 buttons came out I have used that. But I used to have this thing and used remote play on a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with no problems. That grip does it's job well and is cheap/worth-it.
Yeah, I am almost tempted to buy something like this and use one of those controller to phone attachments to hook them together. At least try to... Dunno.
The Vita doesn't sit perfectly due to the curves on the back. I had to file away a little of the bottom lip to make it sit in the micro USB port.
There will be input lag using bluetooth for Android devices. Better to use an otg cable. Get a DS4 and a clip like this [link] and you're golden.
You can get a clip like this that holds smartphones and up to 7" tablets. Just run remote play on the tablet, it works quite well.
Why not just use your phone? Then get a phone mount for your ds4 (something like this [link]).
Here's a post I made earlier today:
I have a Moga Hero that I use for my phone. It's nice and portable and has all the inputs I need.
But for home I use this setup with my PS4 controller. It works great not only for native Android games and emulators, but it's perfect if you have a PS4 for Remote Play, or an Nvidia graphics card in your PC and want to Gamestream some games.
This clip attaches to a PS4 controller and can hold a phone or a smaller sized tablet (I use the 2012 and 2013 N7 with room to spare):
And this cable is an all-in-one OTG adapter and cable. It connects to both of my N7 tablets and LG G3 without root:
And happy cake day!
You can get a Nyko Smart Clip for $10, and use a Dualshock 4 with any android smartphone. Works perfect for me
Nyko Smart Clip
What about this?
As Archhokie06 pointed out, they're back in stock on Amazon. Get them while they last!
Looking in to using my phone for some gaming here...
Anyone use this Sony DS4 holder for their phone? Or maybe something like this
Also, for remote play, we have to use the root that's linked in the article? I'm currently using a Galaxy S4
I would go with this. Does the job and it's cheaper.
Wait, wait, wait - works with the Vita? As in use your DS4 to play Vita???
Here it is on Amazon, but I only see it used for Second Screen with phones, not Remote Play with Vita.
Might have to buy this now.
You can connect a DS4 with bluetooth on android, so buy a PS4 for home and take the controller with you using something like this for playing games.
Nyko Smart Clip - PlayStation 4 by Nyko [link] this is the one I have. I use it with my Note 4 and it holds the phone really well. The clip is huge, so you don't have to worry if you have a case on, like the Otterbox defender cases.
The nyko phone clip with the ds4 does seem nice, and the auto dim on the vita was super annoying but I'm glad I got that quick fix with the rubber band. Seems like the only drawback of the phone is that you have to use internet and you can't connect directly to the ps4 like you can the vita. I got things to work on my note 4 but the lag and disconnects were plentiful, and my internet signal on both devices are like 75-95%, so I'm not sure what it is but at this point, I've been getting better results with the vita. I'm gonna pickup that nyko clip though; can't hurt having the option. Guessing this is the clip you have?
