So the two big ones are HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, those are the only two consumer VR headsets that really shine right now. Rift is having a crazy summer sale right now, $400 on Amazon, which gets you the headset, camera sensors, and hand controllers.
Personally, I have the HTC Vive due to some issues I have with Oculus's business platform. Namely, they're owned by Facebook and are trying to pull a console-esque exclusive games deal.
But, personal qualms aside, I can't really recommend the Vive for $800 over the Rift for $400. Especially if you're playing seat games like flight simulators, that's the much much better option right now.
I'm super into VR so any questions feel free to ask away.
A relative of mine bought the Rift two weeks ago in the States, arrived in 3 business days. I don't know where you're looking, but Oculus has them in stock and Amazon has them in stock. Oculus Rift + Touch
Having a referral code brings the Oculus Rift %10 down to $314 USD (+$30.62 CA tax totals up to $344.72 USD).
Also $349 on Amazon.
Edit: I don't have any more referrals left, sorry! (I'm sure someone will have one though, maybe comment or check out the VR Discord #deals-chat channel to see who still has referrals left?)
The Oculus touch box is 53cm x 34cm x 13.5cm and is about 5kgs in weight.
The Rift is available on Amazon India it is currently INR39,713 and it states about 3-6 working days for delivery which is stated as costing INR3,699
Definitely get one mate. I absolutely love mine. The touch controls are really good and add a massive extra dimension to play. Games are pretty good for such a new platform and you will get a bunch free with the Rift itself, including the brilliant Robo Recall.
Apart from the freebies there is Lone Echo, Arizona Sunshine, Dead Effect 2, Killing Floor 2, Elite Dangerous, Doom VFR, From Other Suns, and loads more great titles out at the moment.
Also loads of existing PC games can be modded to work with VR. I have played Alien Isolation with Oculus and it is terrifyingly good.
Are you sure you have a DK2? That's the old Rift model from 2014. If you got your Rift new recently it is most likely a CV1. Here's the current bundle at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Marvel-Powers-United-Special-Touch/dp/B073X8N1YW/ref=dp_ob_title_vg?th=1
(Forgot to put crosspost in the title, sorry.) Crossposting my comment as well.

It's officially been discontinued and replaced by the Rift S.
If you want one, you're going to have to buy it used on eBay/Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace... or buy one brand new for a ridiculously inflated price.
WAIT! Amazon apparently has a few more that will be available on 6/29 for a $349... crazy! It could be a mistake, but it might be your only "official" option left.
It seems to be a lot pricier on amazon. -> The 399$ version only contains the headset and touch controllers. No ocusus sensors
Compared to the full set for 399 on oculus site. :/
Weird. A new Rift-Touch bundle on U.S. Amazon is $700, but that's only from one of those ridiculously overpriced 3rd party retailers and not from Amazon directly. It's not available otherwise unless you want to buy used.
ah.
Good for you for taking that time and doing the research. Amazon has it for $400, as does everyone else. Best Buy had it for about $25 cheaper a week or so ago (sorry) I pay for Amazon Prime and their process and return policy are great, so that's why i go there.
Get yourself hdmi and usb extension cables, you will ABSOLUTELY want these. (I really want it to be wireless but....)
Have a great time, I know you will
I'm selling my Oculus Rift Touch w/ 2 Sensors. It was purchased in January on Amazon but I just don't have the time to enjoy it. Lightly used. PM me for details.
Link for specs/info: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW
is the amazon link: r/https://www.amazon.de/OCULUS-Germany-301-00095-01-Oculus-Bundle/dp/B073X8N1YW/ legit? I see it's at 404 Euro right now. Everywhere else is 450 and higher. I want to order it and I am not sure about it. In Romania is still too expensive.
You would be better just cancelling this order, as the £50 you paid plus the £285 it'll take to become fully operational is a total of £335... For £350 you can get a brand new CV1 with touch controllers on Amazon.co.uk
And if the HMD is in such a state of disrepair with none of it's protective covering, odds are the lenses might be badly scratched making it useless.
The DK2 is trash, and is not worth the $90 you'd spend on it.
If you're looking for a cheaper headset, they aren't quite as solid IMO as the Vive or Oculus CV, but the windows mixed reality headsets are a MUCH better experience than the DK2 will give. A DK2 is going to be less good of a VR experience than using a cellphone VR setup, and might turn you off of VR entirely if you think it's going to be representative of the final experience. That said, given your GPU I'd hold off, upgrade your GPU and then see about getting a headset, otherwise you're not going to run things too well.
Final version Oculus is currently on sale for $350. https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW/
Yeah, i saw that is I went to the final checkout page. I saw on Amazon that they have one for £350 but it doesn't look like any import duties. Here
Well it's the official Amazon selling it, I think it's like someone else said, one comes with the headset (not mentioned because it comes with it default) and an extra with the touch controllers... I think lol
It depends on where you live, I'm getting my data off of amazon there it is labeled as $529.00 https://www.amazon.ca/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System/dp/B073X8N1YW?th=1&psc=1&source=googleshopping&locale=en-CA&tag=googcana-20&ref=pd_sl_3x8f5laaay_e and on ebay they are trending around 350 to 500 used or refurbished.
Yep, Rift + Touch is $399. Even the Vive (also includes controllers) is only $499 nowadays :) Leap Motion is really promising, but the field of view on their current gen sensor is pretty limiting. Really interesting to play with, but probably not that useful if you're making VR games yet. Also, I don't think their SDK works with Android, in case you're thinking of sticking it on one of the standalone headsets.
Oh oh oh okay, I see.
If you have a decent computer setup (again, I'm running a 1080 Ti which is a beast among today's cards), it shouldn't struggle too much. You can pick up an Oculus + Touch for around $400. The touch controllers come with it.
$1500 should be good enough! :D
It just went $50 cheaper on Amazon. Also used a promo to get another $15 off when shopping with Chase points. So $334 before tax made me pull the trigger.
Amazon link: Oculus Rift + Touch Virtual Reality System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073X8N1YW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gtPqAbYPJVJG4
Chase promo code: URHOLIDAY. Offer is valid until March 15, 2018 or until 53,333 promotion codes have been used, whichever occurs first.
Despite my screen name, this is not a shitpost.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073X8N1YW $350
Also yes, you can take the headphones off the headset with a coin or flat head screwdriver and then use your own headphones (plugged into your comp).
g29 racing wheel is what I use for racing sims. Works great.
In fact, they do, you can order the rift there, but I dont know how warranty would work if you are unlucky to have any problem, that is why I did not order it yet, if they will not cover the warranty in Brazil it will be less expensive to just get one on MercadoLivre anyway.
From this page you can see they ship to Brazil.
Shipping & Fee Details
Price $499.00
AmazonGlobal Shipping + $82.54
Estimated Import Fees Deposit + $553.16
Total $1,134.70
This price, that includes everything even the importing fees, equals to R$3560,00, you can find it on MercadoLivre starting at R$3300(without warranty but you can pay in up to 12x, in amazon you need to pay all at once), you choose now.

i'm referring to the official bundle:
i'm well aware you can go into a store and get the rift and the touch controllers and cameras separately
Sneaky person posting up here. Let's not do that anyone else. But you have a good move.
Amazon will also nock it down soon: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?tag=roatovirrea-20&s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1511440400&sr=1-3&keywords=oculus+rift&th=1&linkId=d72f46890b93910710ac4121c7e4fc46
If you have a PC with a decent graphics card (Nvidia 970 or 1070 at the least) you can get a nice setup for $700
Oculus Rift VR headset- $400
Logitech wheel/pedal set- 260
Assetto Corsa with all the DLC (worth it IMO)- $40
Graphics card prices are overinflated rn but if you needed a good one to run VR that's another $300-400 at least. But the game is still a ton of fun on just a regular monitor.
Logitech wheels/pedal sets (I have a G27) are a great value and the most popular, but set in that video is nuts and on par with what actual race teams use:
OSW wheel kit (rim not included) $1200 real OMP WRC rim $250 Heusinkveld Engineering pedal set $700
He also has a Heusinkveld Rig $1300 holding his some kind of OMP seat $300-600 and I would guess accessory button box, racing shoes, gloves, etc.
From the top rated comment in the link:
>Just so you guys know, “Price Drop” means this isn’t a temporary sale. This will be the regular price from now on at BestBuy.

>Source: I work and BestBuy, part of my job is updating prices.
Amazon also has Rift listed at $349 - without the usual "Save $50" https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW/

This might be new the permanent price! Lets hope!
Hi there! You can purchase a Oculus Rift from one of the following retailers: Amazon, Best Buy, NewEgg, Microsoft, Micro Center. Thanks!
Amazon say they are expecting stock on August 10th: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oculus-Rift-and-Touch-Bundle/dp/B073X8N1YW/
Same price on Amazon currently as well...
The oculus rift is generally unavailable at the moment. bestbuy amazon microsoft oculus.com
Rift S is coming soon though
Here is the Amazon link for the said page.
Well actually, there will be a new bundle on Aug 7th, if this Amazon page is telling the truth.
Order from Amazon DE, then when Amazon DE confirm shipped, cancel the Oculus order.
Amazon is still showing 399 for me: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Rift-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System/dp/B073X8N1YW
Not sure if something else is going on but amazon doesn't have that $50 credit but it is showing a price of $384.98 now.
Edit: back to 399.00 now
Yes; the normal Oculus Rift bundle. It has Rift headset, Touch controllers and 2 sensors. Like stated above, a 3rd sensor was never included in any previous bundles.
You're overthinking it. The normal bundle is what you're looking for and is currently $380.
https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW
If you do want a 3rd sensor, you can order it for $60 from Amazon, Oculus , Best Buy, or Microsoft store
The bundle is the default package now. The Oculus blog, back in October, made the announcement of the bundle that includes the two Rift controllers plus six free games has been permanently lowered to $399.
You can buy it off the Oculus site or Amazon.
I wrote up a more or less spec sheet comparison between Rift & Vive for someone else the other day, and among other things it includes a video that does a good job at comparing SDE & effective resolution between Rift & Vive, but owing to the blown up zoomed in nature of the video, it isn't representative of what you actually see inside the headset.
Simply put, yeah, it's there, it's noticeable, moreso on Vive than Rift, but once you get into the immersion of the experience it fades into background noise.
Also, Rift is currently on sale for $350 on Amazon and Best Buy.
The Oculus Quest 2 is probably the closes real world VR headset to what you're imagining.
> Do they have little remotes attached to them instead of gloves?
All VR headsets I've seen use two remotes/controllers. They're not attached physically, but connect to the headset wirelessly.
Glove controllers do exist, but they're still clunky for now. The plus side of gloves is that it's obviously more natural, but they can also potentially give better haptic feedback. Imagine a glove that pulls backwards on your fingers so that it feels like you're gripping something.
> Could one be hidden in a little drawer that you push open and find it with a cable looped around it?
Do you mean in the headset? Like for storage? Maybe if they were small enough, but you want the headset to be as small/light as possible so it's easier on your neck.
I think the Quest 2 is even experimenting with no controllers at all, but just tracks the hands with external cameras on the headset.
> Can they be powered without plugging into computer?
Yup. Most still need a computer. The Quest 2 is the only one that doesn't as far as I know.
> Could they contain a tracking chip in another little drawer you push open?
Headsets and controllers all have accelerometers and gyroscopes inside to track movement (just like a smartphone basically). The more expensive ones will have "tracking stations" too. Basically cameras that track the headset/controllers for more accuracy.
The Quest 2 doesn't have those tracking stations, and instead has the cameras on the headset itself (i'm pretty sure).
They're not removable on existing headsets because there's really no reason to remove them. But there's also no reason they can't be removable that I know of.
> Can you type into a game on them using an onscreen keyboard using a hand-held remote?
The couple times I've tried VR, the controllers are used as virtual laser pointers for pushing buttons and stuff. If you're using gloves then you could probably type like a normal keyboard. I think it'd just be hard to keep your hands in the right position without tactile feedback.
> Can they be connected to wi-fi etc.?
Yes
> Can you hear sounds in them without speakers attached are there inbuilt speakers or would games be silent?
VR headsets have a headphone jack or have built in headphones/earphones, like this
> In a game would there be a hand icon to open a virtual door with like in old point and click games?
I think that would mostly depend how the developers want to make the game. You certainly can do that, but you can also do it any other way if you want.
> Would any of the above be plausible if added to a specially designed device in my story by the company that built it?
Definitely.
its $349 on amazon at the moment as well, idk for how long but yea.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073X8N1YW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Amazon is now matching this deal: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW/
> The kind of people who bought the Rift are mostly hardcore gamers. They are the ones that have PCs capable of running the thing. As such, they would almost certainly have bought a game on Steam before.
So? I'm a hardcore gamer and yet I almost play exclusively on Oculus Home. And that's true for a lot of people on reddit if you keep an eye on this topic. I already said tht: If Steam is not running = no Steam survey for you. And if it isn't running very often = lower chance of Steam survey. The stats obviously favor the Vive, there's no need to argue about that.
> So the Vive appears to have sold nearly as many units through Amazon as the Rift and Go combined.
Wrong again. The Vive basically has only 1 SKU. The Rift?
1862 reviews for the Rift, 1357 reviews for the Vive. And that's not even factoring in that nobody in its right mind should order directly from HTC while ordering from Oculus (with multiple sales throughout the year) is perfectly fine.
Any way you're trying to spin is, the Rift is the most popular VR system. Even the subreddit numbers show that. Before the Rifts price cut, r/vive always had more active users and the difference in subscribed users had gotten smaller. After the price cut this has completely changed. r/oculus is way more active with faster rising subscription count.
And again: Interest in the Go has just recently skyrocketed. And you just completely left out the 32gb GO version on amazon. Together they have 786 reviews. In 8 months. The Touch bundle has 1086 reviews in 16 months.
So if you compare Rift + Go vs. Vive (as you suggested), it's 2648 reviews. vs. 1357 reviews...
And an extra just for the lulz of it - # of reviews in december (so only recently) for Rift, Vive, and Go:
Rift: 54
Vive: 26
Go: 67
> Amazon appears to have sufficiently restocked their stores and have jumped back up in rankings.
Where did you find that Amazon ranking graph? It'd be interesting to see if there was a spike prior to the Rift going out of stock. That'd provide an indication of whether the stock shortage was the result of increased demand or just reduced supply.

I'll start by ranging the CV 1 Rift first:
Bear in mind that the price differ from where you buy to where it's sent. As well as that these are only the first I got when searching for it.
I have not done a deep search, I focused on package deals and took the first and best option. Seperated equipment will likely be listen in the pre-searched links.
Also, bear in mind that Oculus is currently no longer shipping and is therefore not listed due to this.

I have had no issues at all, this setup working very well for me.
Rift + touch ($399), 3rd sensor ($59.99). $460 for the pair, unless you meant the $350 I paid. I paid $350 because I bought it from a couple who won it at our company christmas party and had no interest in it, then bought another sensor. I believe it was on sale for $350 at one point (without 3rd sensor) but I think it was a christmas sale.
I talked with Amazon support over chat and TL;DR is it seems that the current pack sold out, and that the new stock they're getting in seems to be a slightly different SKU? I'm looking to buy one next week when my student loan drops so have "preordered" for now, hopefully will still get the £350 price if this new SKU goes back up to £400
EDIT
Has there been any announcements recently about different pack in games, different cables, anything smaller things that'd change from the current bundle?
Also here's the actual product page which'd probably be somewhat useful to see for people :P
https://www.amazon.ca/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System/dp/B073X8N1YW
Pretty sure that's the cheapest currently.

There is no bundle available that includes a third sensor (excluding the $999 Business bundle). You will have to buy the Oculus Rift + Touch bundle for $379 then buy a third Oculus Sensor separate which costs $59, which should come with a 15 ft extension. Depending on your play area size a third sensor might not be necessary.
What are the other specs of your laptop?

Amazon UK is currently listing stock as expected on August 10th: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oculus-Rift-and-Touch-Bundle/dp/B073X8N1YW/
No it's not, it's still in stock!

Hey all, I've been looking into buying an Oculus VR setup for the PC I built a few months ago. Does anyone know if they ever go on sale? The bundle I'm looking at is $399.99. Oculus Rift I know it's best if you buy an additional sensor, which I plan on doing as well. I'm still looking around to see if I can find a better deal.
Thanks guys (and gals); I appreciate any assistance you send my way. Cheers.
I was referring to this: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1527443041&sr=1-3&keywords=oculus+rift
As that is the exact rift I have.
I'm not seeing this exact one selling anywhere for less than $315, but I'm willing to budge if I can find this one selling other places.
You can preorder into the 10th of August batch on Amazon.
You can preorder on Amazon CA and get it in around a week.
I highly suggest you place an order there (Amazon CA) now- and if you get the issue with Oculus sorted out, you can cancel.

That's from 3rd party sellers- that box hasn't been sold by Oculus in almost a year. It even tells you in the listing and links you here: https://www.amazon.ca/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System/dp/B073X8N1YW/
My favourite thing is when people try to correct people but are wrong anyways.
Notice that Amazon says in the description: "SteamVR Tracking provides the best experience possible", but in Oculus Rift page https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Touch-Virtual-Reality-System-pc/dp/B073X8N1YW/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1512991312&sr=1-3&keywords=oculus%2Brift&th=1 they never use the word 'best'
